Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

They're going to have invent a new (never done before!) term to describe streamers held hostage by a crappy game dev and feeling beholden to them. Robert's Syndrome? Citizen Syndrome? 😁

Evo is another world. Bog just mentioned how today's Evo is performing well. (He spent the prior 30 minutes stuck in lifts).

Stuff like this doesn't even cause a twitch ;)

I mentioned it in my previous post, evocati builds aren't really playable, they're test client builds where very little, if any, of the game or patch functions in the subsequent PTU or live patches are included or work. The first EPTU builds are deemed as 'good' if the client doesn't crash when loaded up, the devs add more 'game' functions to the test client if it's stable enough then we start all over again testing individual or problem elements until it breaks or is stable. EPTU isn't a play test, that comes later when the devs hand it over to PTU.

I know the NDA rules have been relaxed and all that...but why anyone would want to stream any of the evocati builds or even to make it appear as trying to play them like a PTU or released patch utterly baffles me. That's not what EPTU is all about...or at least it wasn't. General rule of thumb here and the same goes for PTU, if you want to just play the game with the new patch specific features or make your coin through streaming it rather than testing it, just toddle off and wait until the patch is dropped as a live release like everyone else.

I guess streamers just need those clicks and subs 🤷‍♂️

There's a reason I stopped with any form of testing quite a few years ago, I don't have a PTU client installed either...It was killing any enthusiasm I ever had for just playing the game... and being a backer and long time player by choice rather than an unpaid QA tester by profession, I just wanted to play the game as a gamer and backer of star citizen... warts and all and such as it is. At least now when the game invariably crashes or breaks every 5 minutes, I can just turn it off, go play something else until casually dropping back in for the next patch release without filling in bug reports and spending time endlessly downloading client builds. It's quite liberating ;)

Yeah, if not for anything else CIG deserves at least a couple accolades: An impressive alleged funding over a decade thanks to some of the most abusive anticonsumer practices; and the also impressive success at normalizing objectively horrid quality thanks to constant bait & switch dreams and hopes that never really materialize coupled with a very effective communication strategy that has prevented any kind of widespread formal product reviews even after being released in early access.

What's a stream of an evocati build got to do with Ci~G's bordering on fraudulent money laundering marketing strategies we all know about? I don't hear Bog trying to sell the game to anyone or shill for Ci~G... As much as I dislike streamers and 99% of their generally banal content, Bog is fairly tame and only shows or discusses what he sees 🤷‍♂️

Bog was discussing Idris options at the start of that last clip ;)

But yeah I'm not seeing the connection either. Altho I'm sure 4.0 evo has had it's NDA dumped as a hype measure. (For the vids of successful jumps / flights over the new planets etc)

I was not referring to Bog specifically, he is chill indeed, but about the general problem of CIG succeeding at normalizing crap quality.

Etc

As far as I can tell he is just one more victim of that normalization. Although in his case at least he can also monetize it, so good on him.

Directly or indirectly, SC streamers are trying to sell the game to other people. Its their livelihood. People don't buy into it, they might find themselves without money.

Interesting comment here on FB:

And a Spectrum thread about Morph's video, and some people dumping on super shill Morph for making this video. They clearly didn't watch it, since Morph was still being quite upbeat overall.
