Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Pretty sure CIG know they will generate both more skpetics and more whales with each free fly.
Some people come in, not aware of CIG's history, not aware of how long still remains and other issues, see what's there, like it, accept it is alpha, and then get into it.
At least the server is much more stable than the last freefly event. I haven't seen a 30K since 10 days.
And you can concede to CIG that they don't hide the real state of their alpha.
The 2 main troubles for this one will be the slowness of inventory actions (up to 15 seconds to equip something) and the spaceports exit channels in Lorville/Area18 not visible enough (and invisible from the outside view). A lot of crashs in perspective.

Excuse me, dear sir, when had we switched the discussion from "everyone" to "you"?
Perhaps I've not used the correct terms "something I will be pleased to see personnaly".

I don't get involved in the fluff that surrounds Star Citizen. I believe CIG had a roadmap (once upon a time) that stated Squadron 42 would be in beta in 2020. That's the acid test for me, none of the circus activities cut any ice. Will (or can) CIG actually hit one of their own significant goals?

From @StuartGT 's post on Frontier's financial results for FY20 (link below):

We verified that there was a significant appetite for such a game with Kickstarter crowdfunding at the end of 2012 and early 2013, and the game itself has now vindicated that decision with continued success in its sixth year of full release (its seventh year since early access). For comparison, other high-profile space exploration games that entered Kickstarter in the early 2010s have still not released at all, speaking to the challenges of the genre and to our teams expertise and ability to deliver compelling product in a timely fashion.

Ooof.... that's rather pointed.

Would be a bit hard to hide the real state since they make it public. That's their choice. And as i noted, that puiblic access can also backfire.

The free fly will be interesting - one theory about why there are less 30ks is that there are less people playing (because of the 30k's and lack of progress).

If they can get a free fly to work without increasing the 30ks then it will show some progress (y)

Yes & no. The ‘hundreds of dollars' of free ships they gift you do obscure the uphill struggle that a starter pack entails. (And the temptation that will ensue to purchase an improved ship, once you find yourself in that spot. If only for basic QoL like reduced travel times, to get back where you were after that last bug killed you ;))

Servers still crash really often. During my last try, got about 4 30K's in about 1 hour. Some about 5 minutes in, even one just after logging in, woke up, went to the lift, lift didnt work, server crashed.
So no, they are not more stable at all, and the free fly event will exacerbate this tendency.

Only 2 ? Haha.
Trying to get into the freeloaner Freelancer using the side ladder = get stuck into geometry or fall through the planet or worse. (i suppose free flyers get a Freelancer too ?) - given it's one of the most popular ships, this one will hurt
Trying to get into combat currently with the missile/shield bug = quick death by missile spam (for those who would try the bounty hunting missions)
Trying to repair and/or refuel = GG, game over - that will make it a really short session for some..
Trying to get anywhere near Area18 or Lorville, now that the restricted zone is both invisible AND much more extensive = quick death by autopilot crashing into the ground (seriously, this is the most stupid thing they've done for a while, and the bar was low to start with..)
Trying to take off with a heavy ship, without knowing about that menu option they have to turn off first (and is buried below 50 other options) and getting stuck even at full power...
Trying to get out or in a planetary spaceport hangar, without spamming ATC and the doors will close immediately, potentially crushing your ship...
I wont get into what ramps can do to you and vehicles, and the various "falling through geometry" happenings, or the constant 30K's..
+ the list of "known issues" that's here for each patch and kinda long by now

Some players have more 30k than others. For me and a lot of my friends, it's a lot better. The last freefly, everyone had 30k...

Only 2 ? Haha.
I wasn't saying there are only 2 bugs, I'm saying that those 2 points are big ones. The inventory latency and the exit channel will affect every new player.
But in your list I agree with you for the "autopilot crashing into the ground", the "take off of heavy ships" and the "short delay gate". They are big points too.I didn't think about it, when you just have an Aurora, you have fewer problems.

The New Babbage spaceport lifts not working (depending on server health - free fly will certainly not be kind to them) will see a lot of people get stuck going from/to the spaceport, especially as it's an initial spawn point. This is an infuriating one.
Delivery missions will really show the worst of everything, with various crashes, the boxes falling through geometry, etc.
And yeah GL finding the combination of keys or actions to remove your helmet, then put it back on. Needed if you want to try drinks and food. Again fumbling with key configuration through a very unhelpful menu with horrendous UI, coupled with the huge delay, will not please everyone...

Given how the Vindictus event performed on the funding, it looks like even utterly broken people buy (or continue spending) into it. "SC must not fall"

Just thinking about this. I wonder if the faithful upon reading this will declare that FD don't know anything about game development.
