Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Hey all,

Sorry to be the resident luddite, but when a lot of you post links, I can't see them at all. I know you're referencing some attached/embedded youtube video or something but it just comes up blank on my side. Chrome on Win10. Any ideas?

Same here, but not all of them. I can see some video previews, some get blanked. I use both AdBlock Plus and UBlock Origin though, so I presume some get killed like that.

Obviously a FUDster complaining about low frame rates. Or they don't have it installed on a SSD. Can be dismissed!

LOL, someone just asking whether the event had even launched got downvoted.

MUST. DOWNVOTE. ALL. POTENTIAL. CRITICISM!!!

And i don't get this reply

My experience so far was; go to the wrecks, try to help protect people from the Xenos, shoot at the Xeno, some people are close to Xeno I guess, get crimestat. Lots of fun.

What Xenos? There are no Xenos!

When the event started this evening, it tanked frame rates right across the server...not just for those daft enough to want to play it. I had decided to go rope in a few bounties...but with dying frame rates and NPC's rubber banding all over the place as the notxeno threat nonsense went on, I gave up.

If the state of the servers remains unchanged from what you're experiencing, do you think CIG will keep 3.12.1 live for the next month?

Liked this write up:

Best Parts
  • Coop tractor looting. But it needs some polish, less fiddly controls to remove the crates from storage, a tractor throw option to launch the crates through 0g into the bay.
  • Idris battle. This was already in, but it's still fun. Pre-Xenothreat fighting the Idris was where I had the most fun in 3.12, although it still feels too much like a bullet sponge and too vulnerable. It's a helpless target with a big health bar.
Worst Parts
  • Cargo ship vulnerability. Thankfully we had a fair number of fighters keeping the skies clear, but it sucks to spend 10 min loading the ship up only for it to get blown up and lose all the time you spent on it.
  • QT cargo (Dilutherium). Not being able to QT just means 10 min of waiting. There's no gameplay involved.
  • Length and repetition. I'm lucky my server lasted as long as it took (3 hr). I was on a relatively busy server which had a full Carrack crew, a Hammerhead, and a fair number of solos helping, and I still did 25% of the cargo myself. In the future CIG should look into tuning the event according to how many people are participating, whether by filling in for missing players with AI allies or scaling back the requirements.
  • Bugs bugs bugs. The station wouldn't load, the javelin wouldn't load, enemy ships wouldn't load, ally ships wouldn't load, players wouldn't load leading to ghost crates, I had an entire Starfarer which would randomly decide whether or not it would load while I walked around it.
Gameplay flow
The real break ups to flow were death and restocking/repairing. Jericho should have offered repair/restock at least, if not respawn. Especially for bombers, which fire all their torpedoes in 30 seconds then have to fly all the way to MIC L1 while the mission giver (very professionally) whines that you're leaving the battle the UEE has refused to offer the infrastructure to support.

Also finding new wrecks. Just fly in a random direction and hope that you find a wreck. When you do hope it hasn't already been looted.

Besides that I'd say it felt like a pretty clean loop. Park your ship near the door, go do some FPS, power the generator, rapidly load up (thanks to good parking + tractor), and QT back to Jericho to sell before doing it again.
I was fortunate to be the first one to every wreck I looted so I always got to do the FPS part, but I'd have been pretty disappointed if I hadn't been able to. That's a really big part of what made it fun to me, the combination of FPS, cargo, and combat.

Final Showdown
Wait there was a final showdown? My mission completed at full resupply and just said that was that.
Or do you mean Phase 3 which isn't live yet?

Its to do with the Cookie settings you choose when your first log on. Apparently 'Strictly only necessary' doesnt cover some YT links. Sometimes the link is in tiny tiny writing at the bottom of post. Dunno why some appear and some completely blank though.

If you "insert video", the link doesn't appear.
If you just copy/paste the video link to your post, the link appears and if you have marketing cookies enabled, you see the embed* too.

*the forum software seems to add embedding automatically

The server fps was perfectly good until Xeno threat came online... then it started to fall apart being really crap and sluggish for 10 minutes then back to being decent again, certainly for me... 45-55 fps is around normal for this patch, even when it was in PTU. Before the event started, the servers were the best I'd seen them since 3.7. Stable, decent fps and with very little observable latency or desync. Once the event kicked off, the player numbers didn't increase above the 30 or so that were already there but the server lag got progressively worse...improved again for short periods then lapsed back. At the same time this was going on, in chat the guys doing the xeno threat were complaining about assets not loading, fps down to 15 at times ...as well as other small bugs that might have gone unnoticed if the fps had remained stable.

The servers are better for the removal of Delamar and dropping the player cap to 40...though I hasten to add that removing content to simply add a mission, no matter the excuse, is a cheap way to force overall server stability for very little gain. If they cut the useless moving furniture that are station NPC's, they'd have probably reached the same end result meaning that Levski and Delamar could have stayed until Orison and Crusader were added.

Ci¬G are committed to this 'dynamic' content with every patch from now on (or so they say)...the next event, possibly with 3.13, being a pirate blockade of a station/moon from what Tony Z let out of the bag during his last video appearance. It's not a bad thing...but if we consider that a lot of the core tech needed to make these events a success simply isn't present or it's not working...it's a cart before the horse scenario, one typical of Ci¬G's chaotic development of this project from the beginning.

It was since 3.11, made worse in 3.12. It works for a while until you got external view or remove your helmet, then never comes back.
Chat function works fine in 3.12.1...nobody reported any issues with it all day today on the 4 servers I played on. They certainly fixed the chat regression bug from 3.12, it was all working fine in PTU, works fine in the live patch so no idea what the reports of it not working are all about..

What did cause problems for everyone was the new and improved starmap bug which refuses to zoom out until it's been opened and closed half a dozen times making it impossible to select a jump point.

There were also quite a few reporting loss of equipment or ship upgrades, a fairly common bug after a patch that only effects some but not others for some reason. A few, including me had the mobiglas bug where it won't open after initial login...so those of us who knew the easy workaround spent an hour explaining it to anyone else affected by the bug appearing on the server who didn't know of it.
