Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Unfortunately i couldn't seem to buy more ammo, is this a bug? Or do you need to be at certain stations or do they need to restock before you can rearm?
It's not the station it's that horrendous repair/rearm/refuel bug. Has been present for how many years now, 4, 5 ? cant remember, it's basically forever. It's been made worse with recent changes. At this rate, wont be fixed before 2030 or so, if ever. Do not plan and have multi hop travels (say with a gas guzzling QT drive) as you'll just get stranded. Standard operating procedure is to claim the ship, and recycle it entirely - note that latest patch notes indicate that they'll remove that ability too (so claiming a ship wont refuel or rearm it anymore).
Used to be that hovering just above the platform would work around the bug, but it seems it doesnt work anymore since 2 or 3 patches.
Main show stopper for me IMHO and it's been that way for years.

It's worth a bit more than that on the grey market ;)

Less so these days seemingly…

My 2 cents, melt non Giftable items down and sell Store credits 70-60% from melt value and its gone in a week. Selling the accout would take way longer. Kraken privateer is no rare irem also your acc dont got old perks an good buypacks. Only my opinion. Cheers gl

Also what does "gf" mean?

I'd just taken off from Port Olisar in my Aurora MR and then got blown up by a "PvP player", no chance to avoid (i guess except to not take off the pad), so wasnt quite sure what he sent in global chat meant.
I've not had any issues with refuelling/repair for the last couple of patches...although Olisar is the one place It didn't work when I landed last time I popped onto the live servers. I just tried it again before I left the pad, worked fine then. If it doesn't work there, try one of the R&R stops (CRU L1) which isn't far...you'll get fixed up and fuelled there.

GF or GG you'll see a lot in global chat, especially around Olisar since it's turned into a PvP fest after they removed the no fire zone. I normally avoid PO like a plague of boils or go tooled up for a fight if I'm in the mood or have to drop in there for some reason, there are generally griefers or pad strafers hanging around there just waiting to make anything parked or flying their daily game content. A fair bit of the fighting is fairly good natured and consensual though, it's not all griefing or ganking... hence the GF or GG you saw in global...there might have been another fight going on near you.

Watching.

Agree with his statement that the in-game community is generally nice. But ok, can say that about many games. The ED community in-game is generally nice, with the odd exception, same as in SC.

Haha, he had a mullet as a kid. I can sympathise.

He knew he didn't like the pricing structure, the bugs, the performance, so he's aware of that (maybe not fully informed about the lies, but ok).

First impressions good. Nice.

Fell to his death twice... ooops. Oh well, teething issues.

30k. Feels frustrated.

Starts mining, enjoying, says its as good as it was made out to be (mining is one activity that CIG have actually done well on though from many sources).

Killed by another player. Quits game.

Went back in (persistent).

Says overall, rewarded with a fantastic game.

"Most amazing community" - while i won't disagree, its worth remembering this is not a released game, largely populated by big and dedicated fans. Let's see how global chat looks if SC ever releases.

Game deleted his hand mining tool and he had no credits. Player sends him credits (funny how often the solution to bugs is just for other players to send money).

Players were being really nice, including one called "Jared" - hmmmm.....

Another player flew to location just to lead him around (large areas issues, not new player friendly, veterans know where to go).

Ok, its 40 mins long and got work to do, so i'll jump to the end here.

Final thoughts:

Glad he didn't listen to the "scam citizen crowd" - ok, so basically he's saying he's ignored all the information people might have tried to give him about why some people have issues with CIG. He should have listened and then made up his mind.

"I see vision and passion" - neither of which ensure the promised game will be delivered.

"This could single handedly be one of the best and most detailed games ever" - ooooh, he's got the fever.

"will i throw money at it? No" - good man, he hasn't got it that hard... although maybe in a few months he will be coincierge :D

"Would i recommend this game to you?" - for me, yes, but with a few caveats. "Its alpha"

"Not a huge amount of content in the game yet"

"If you can afford it and you don't mind the risk, then yes" - not exact text, close enough.

Overall, likes the game, aware of most issues, did not listen to the skeptics (willful ignorance), had fun despite bugs, etc. Would recommend only if you're prepared to play an alpha game with limited content but if so then he thinks you will enjoy it.

So... not bad, just a shame about him dismissing skeptics without listening to them. Otherwise quite fair review. He doesn't hide his early frustrations and doesn't try and and sell it as being more than it is.

You could learn some things from him Little Ant.

I see ppl give noobs a tour frequently in Foxhole. I do it myself even. If I don't run them over with my truck...

Left a reply on the video. Thanks for bringing it to my attention @LittleAnt

Very fair review i think. However, your refusal to listen to the skeptics means you are not getting the full picture. Now, its quite possible if you do listen to them (us) you will decide you are still cool with everything, or maybe you will have some concerns but overall still think the game will come out good. Or maybe the new information you gain will sour you on the project (and maybe you don't want that!). But generally speaking, its always best to be fully informed about any product you are thinking of investing in, whether it be financially or emotionally.
Quick example, in March 2015 Chris Roberts said "By the end of this year backers will have everything they ever pledged for, plus a lot more" - that was a blatant lie, he had to know it wasn't the truth. Its now 2021 and backers still don't have everything they pledged for, let alone more, and they won't have everything they pledged for for many years yet.
And its been like this since 2012, where CR tried to pass off the launch video as something they had actually developed. The lies never stopped, the funding must flow.
I recommend you take a look at Bootcha's (Binky_ATX) Sunk Cost Galaxy series plus some short videos created by Star Criticism (which are as funny as they are informative)

If after reviewing them, you still think SC/CIG are worth your time and worth promoting to other gamers, then good luck. I'd say see you in the 'verse, but i won't ;)

Not sure if he will even look at the links, but it will be interesting to see his reaction if he does.

I can imagine the faithful are already smashing that down arrow as hard as they can while composing their replies. I fully expect vitriol and name calling to be included... that famous friendly Star Citizen community we all know and love.

What is release anyway?

I guess all devs should just stop putting release labels on games. That way they can remain immune to all criticism forever.

Always assumed fishing had nothing to do with actually catching fish but more of a way of getting away from 'er indoors for a few hours.
Well both relate accurately to BDSSE too then, as it has barely something to do with space but more about wandering around corridors getting away from reality for a few hours and spend hundreds of dollars on jpegs to have sure fun but less (and more bugs) than if you spent this money on thousands of "inferior done before" games.

More people wising up to the easy pay checks that can be had by talking about and providing referral codes to an eternally in alpha promise-as-a-service.

Ok, i have never played any game in VR, i don't have a VR headset, but this looks quite VR to me. in ship and on foot.

Nope, as mentioned previously ;)

Def don’t expect SC to be functional in VR via vorpX etc. There are a couple of enthusiasts that ring the bell for it, but as the vid describes there, the scaling is apparently too out of whack for use with even hacky stereo effects, and the piggybacking they do on TrackIR system means the headlook itself has a ton of latency. (On top of general performance struggles etc)

It’s a 2D headlook novelty for most unfortunately. Not a way to play the game.

The intangible Kraken got me thinking. How are the big ticket items doing on the release front these days?

Answer: Kinda like this...

ARXbTJc.png

A turret beast, a luxury yacht, and a tank carrier out the door. And a couple of exploration ships (minus their exploration features).

But anything requiring more technical additions to fulfil on their USP functions, or even reach flight ready status? Still in intangible land...

But hey, early days ;)

Warframe had the same model. Minus the KS. They monetised an unfinished game too. In difference they made far more progress and faster updates than SC. It's because they figured out the networking before and didnt cling to an impossible task like Waste Citizen. Once it drops the ridiculous promises it might come along somewhat nicely, but I guess it still needs many persistent bottles to fall on heads before that day comes.

I'm certainly not saying its there yet but clearly it is being worked on, i don't know what i'm looking at exactly but he it sitting in his seat shuffling forward and his body is moving around in the seat, pushing his legs forward, bending knees stretching up to look over the dash, it looks to me complete freedom of movement on the body rig.
Same with walking around, turning your head is independent from where you are walking.

Yes i'm sure the aspect ratio or whatever it is causing the "hacky stereo effects" and the latency also.... but it is in active development. That much seems clear.

True, but at least if you pay for premium items you get those premium items I guess.

The whole jpeg conveyor belt is still something to behold, as it nears a decade of chugging along…

Hah no, non of this is due to VR development by CIG. Chachi there (the guy featured in the first vid), is using various 3rd party programs (most notably vorpX) to view the game inside his headset. This is stuff VR guys try in a ton of 2D games, normally with underwhelming results.

He’s then piggybacking on the TrackIR headlook function supported in game, to get some headlook functionality (but with much more delay than natively supported headlook, an issue for both gameplay and comfort).

Ultimately he’s still just looking at a 2D screen floating in his headset though.

(The fact that the cockpits look off in any hacky attempts at actual stereo rendering suggests the opposite of work done by CIG incidentally. It suggests they have plenty to do there ;))

TLDR: This is all homebrew stuff. And not a VR experience in most key respects.
