A gentle reminder that Levski/Delamar were removed post-SOCS to make room for more additions. Despite the claims that SOCS would "break us free from limitations in terms of locations". Previously removed locations such as the R&R stops were never returned. The discussed additions of 100s of new caves never occurred. Etc etc. Limitations on location additions stayed very much in effect.

Player FPS improvements were never a claimed benefit of SOCS. AI behavioural improvements absolutely were, with improved server FPS and an end to NPCs acting strangely forecast. These things absolutely did not occur.

Anyone who cares about factual analysis of CIG’s actual claims vs the reality achieved can simply watch this video section:

And note that literally not one of the claimed benefits for the PU occurred. Not one.

The 'Dynamic Events' which were added are indeed a good case in point for analysis though. (PS calling them 'Dynamic' is silly, as none of the related AI or background sim systems are functioning, despite various attempts to introduce them.)

They absolutely hammer the servers to this day, taking the server FPS comically far below the 30 FPS tick rate CIG were aiming for with SOCS. And indeed the average tick rate outside of XenoThreat etc is lower today than it was prior to SOCS’s inclusion.

SOCS was categorically a washout which performed way below the over-hyped claims made on its behalf. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

NMS is a spacesim. does NMS have orbital mechanics? No. Orbital Mechanics were never planned nor promised.
NMS isn’t a space sim. It’s a survival game set in a universe with 50’s pulp science fiction aesthetic, which doesn’t stand up very well to any poking and prodding before the illusion shatters. Contrast this with Empyrion Galactic Survival, which goes for a similar aesthetic, but requires a quite a bit of testing before the illusion starts to beak down.
 
Any accountants want to dissect this? I'm sure the resident goon accountant will be over on SA.

Worth remembering this is for the UK entity only, it does not cover the dozen other companies they have.

Interesting. I would swear some backers claimed FPS improvements no?. Maybe it was due to OCS and not so much due to SSOCS?

Who knows. It's not something that CIG claimed would be a primary benefit of SOCS though. (So I guess we can give them points for not claiming it would fix absolutely everything. And then being absolutely wrong ;))

This whole thread is just dead horse beating! The horse has been composted and turned into feritlizer at this point. However, without it, there would be no SC Discussion thread!
That’s not quite true.

This thread would also exist if CIG had released the game they Kickstarted in 2012 by 2014 in a playable state… as they’d promised.

We’re here because in 2012, Chris Roberts didn’t have a nearly ready for Alpha game, which was about to go into the arts and assets phase of development, but a Machinima video.

When you say run into some fellow explorers, i guess your idea of how to interact with them is different from mine :p

And yeah, with engineering and guardian FSD boosters jump ranges are quite huge now.

My Vulture has a range of 26 LY, and not even maxed.
