Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Instead of getting better, things seem to be getting worse. Promising less, which is good, but delivering even less, which is hard and not good to do. Oh, they should add more plushies or whatever in there. They're good at that.
How are they delivering less? Since the roadmap change there hasn't been a single patch deployed at all, lol.

Today's Blasts from the Past:

"I do not think this game will be ready until mid 2016 at best... What do you guys think ?"

I'm personally fully set for a late 2017 release even branching into 2018. In my experience, it's much easier to see a delay occur than an advance.

I'll be happy when I can play 'capture the idris' basically, maybe end of this year? early 2016? Also hope we can get 2.0 Multi-crew up and running before the end of the year.

Given CIG's track record, I would set 2017 as a realistic release date. I mean think about it, a very limited PU flying between 2 systems is scheduled for later this year which inevitably means it will be pushed back probably into early next year - if history teaches us anything. So that leaves a very limited PU at the beginning of 2016! Now if you think CIG is going to be able to jump from 2 systems and release the game within the same year you are Whistling Dixie. Even if the PU undergoes some kind of miracle where time can be turned back to compensate for CIG's missed dates (or more accurately missed dates we don't see in publisher based games), it still leaves just over a year to come up with well over 100 systems! Sorry but that's simply not going to happen.

But that is OK. What is important is that CIG gets it right and if it takes until mid or even late 2017, I can live with it; as long as we keep getting content in the meantime. Besides, what we are talking about isn't a game: it's a universe the likes of which has never been produced before! And it promises to continue long after release. For that I could easily wait until 2017.

Ach, I just swapped that out for a different set. (Figured I'd done enough 'lists of things that still aren't in the game' ;))

I guess VR has been deleted, so that came true...

Did like the pithy end one tho ;)

Does anyone know what the situation is with SQ42 in terms of pledges?

Cobblers I believe has said that SC and SQ42 will be released (as unlikely as that may seem) as separate games. Does his mean that today's new pledgers will get both or just one?

As I see it, they would have to receive both, else using their money for X and using it to fund Y would be at best immoral.

Or is there no clear statement?

I think immoral may be a few steps up, from where they currently are.

How are they delivering less? Since the roadmap change there hasn't been a single patch deployed at all, lol.

I imagine they will release another patch, but wouldn't that be fun if they didnt? Would that be considered less?

Ronzer : "I say they will deliver less!"
Ebob : "...there hasn't been a single patch deployed..."
Ronzer : "I stand corrected...they will not deliver anything!"

You win.

That a bug that kills? I mean, what a surreal question if indeed a game breaking, killer, bug. Really a statement about the game state in a nutshell.

It's one of the theories about ramp explosions. That wearing a backpack while walking down it causes the boom.

(Doubt it could have been the case here though, because he was already off and running. Maybe his passenger put something oversized in the fridge instead? ;))

No, no. I think it is actually just about you that cannot for some reason comprehend that there is nothing normal in an Alpha that has wasted 500 million over 10 years without releasing a single product. It is probably a record of misrepresentation, wasted resources and non delivery. To top it all off the fact that players are actually leaving the game and the community before even release is abysmally shameful.

No no no the product is released! Or is it! Or is it not.... Again 400 million over a decade is absolutely nothing! Warzone made a billion in the first week! It's not "normal" but, why should it be? Normal is boring!

Cope & Seethe! It is what is is, tons of players left ED before all of its promises were fulfilled! Even after 8 years in development it's still not delivered on all of them! Shameful! People leave games, did the thought that people actually live lives ever come to your mind? Crazy, I know! There's life beyond videogames! Some people want to engage in this life more than others, and thus, decide to stop playing a game! What an alien concept!

Dude, I stopped playing ED quite some time ago, after spending 1000+ hours in it, all in awesome VR, going across the whole galaxy and back, getting all the ships and upgrading them to the max with engineer grind and so on. Why would we dwell on that ? Also, it was a released, complete game long ago, with complete game loops, and could run for a LONG time without crashing, hence the large amount of hours spent on it. As of today, 10 years later, half a billion dollars spent, I cant say I could do even 1/10th of that in SC since for starters there's NO BLEEPING VR, no complete game loop to speak of (unless you talk about random mindless pewpew which is not a game loop per se), cant even exit the very first star system, or do 99% of what was promised when i backed the kickstarter.

People dont even touch SC because there's barely anything to do in it, and that barely anything is utterly buggered.

Because they lied! They lied to the players! Scam! You can do cool things in Elite, yes you can, but you can do cool things in SC aswell. Why should I dwell on the negative things in SC either?
Also, it was a released, complete game long ago, with complete game loops, and could run for a LONG time without crashing,
I have not crashed since 3.13! Released and complete! That's cool and all, but where's all the promised stuff! I can also release a barebones game and proclaim its very good!

There's people with lots of hours in SC, they may be masochists, but they enjoy their time! Random pewpew is a complete gameloop! Mining is a completete gameloop!

Curious. You proclaim nobody touches SC, yet they smash their yearly funding records - every year!

Activision delivered Warzone. CIG has not released a single game but has wasted 450+ millions. There is indeed nothing normal is wasting all that money and not release a single product in over 10+ years.

Cope & Seethe!

Are you ok friend?

ED is a released game, almost 8 years old with 2 paying DLC and multiple ones released at not added cost. Additionally FDEV has for the most sold only ED franchise content that it has released (unless you want to turn this thread into a LEP discussion). It is pretty normal players move on after playing a released game.

CIG on the other hand has presold SC and SQ42 to the tune of 450+ millions without a single game released after 10 years. Players leaving even before the game has been released is just shameful.

These 450 million dollars were not wasted! They were put towards development! WIthout them, they'd need to amass the same money to get to that point, not wasted!

I am afraid all those millions have been wasted: 10 years, no released game.

Splendid!
Great to hear that cope and seeth is working out for you!

FDev sold a promise of interiors! Earth likes, gas giants, damage models and so on! They sold lies!

Well, FDEV has released quite a lot already of the original vision for the franchise:

Many of those original plans and intentions (ship interiors is but one) have already come to pass by the way. From Newsletter 29 where FDEV outlined what they intended to do wrt future content DLCs after initial release:

For example, our current roadmap is to add (in no particular order):
  • Landing/ driving / prospecting on airless rocky planets, moons & asteroids
  • Walking around interiors and combative boarding of other ships
  • Combat and other interactions with other players and AIs in the internal areas of star ports (Note: EDO on the other hand offers combat in interiors of settlements and on all planetary surfaces though)
  • Accessing richly detailed planetary surfaces
  • Availability of giant ‘executive control’ ships to players
  • Green is released: With EDH, EDO and Fleet Carriers. Although first person combat happens rather outside star ports not inside.
  • Red is not delivered yet: no ship interiors indeed yet.
  • Orange is partially delivered: EDO´s thin atmospheres, updated planetary surfaces and new biologicals. Not yet delivered things like thicker atmospheres, liquid masses or prominent flora and fauna.

All in all not a bad release record on their original intents post base game release. And so far there are no signs it is stopping there. To top it all off the great news is that with a few exceptions FDEV will only charge you for it when they think it is ready for release or close.

On the other hand CIG has wasted around 450 millions so far and are still charging for a game they have not released for over 10+ years.

Sadly, yes. See above.

Are you part of CIG marketing? "Noo! Come back! Give us more money!"

I guess that basing a business model on constant misrepresentation and pre selling products that are not released over 10+ years is not just marketing. The marketing guys just do whatever the boss says. In the meantime, paying players leaving before the game is even released is utterly shameful.

Those millions contributed to an eventual release: Not wasted! It would be a waste if they closed up shop!

FDev makes more money with park sims, constant Elite update delays and the state of Odyssey shows how much FDev care about Elite. It shows every sign of stopping here.

What misrepresentation? If you buy a jpg you're warned you buy a jpg! After the recent roadmap update it's literally impossible to use it as a marketing tool anymore!
