Erin Roberts - Head of theory crafting?
Ah yup cheers, had seen those and they are certainly pretty funny. I'm very curious how the next few days will work out - guess as suggested they've disabled them this time. The twitch chat isn't particularly happyDay 1 stream: https://youtu.be/gwUtzq3A5-o
Erin Roberts interview makes it clear again: Questions are usually answered by referring to a range of possible solutions, nothing is set in stone, everything is vaguely planned.
Yes.
Yes same here, they disabled chat...
Ed has no scale yet. I can't use a VR headset, I dare say things 'might' seem large. But really for me, when they get someone or something walking around in ED, you'll just not convince me.![]()
Do you think there will be any competition from SpaceX selling personal spaceships by the time the game launches in 2035?
I'm not one to defend SC (I got a refund), however, if you think all this in ED is well implemented, then I think, your mistaken. ED can have a lot of imaginary things, ie; transport people, nothing changed from transporting goods, there are no people (NPC, actual characters) in ED. Imagine walking around your ship, having a crew, or just a co-pilot. Opening doors... etc.:O
Pirate & bounty hunter, sort of go hand in hand and as far as I can see, SC will have that, and more or less, have it now. Somebody would pinch my ships before I got to them. I consider them pirates [yesnod], or more to the point, gankers.. What is the difference.
Driving on planets, well ED's planets are pretty much a joke, when you can't get out and look around because there is no player character (as such). They're not even in the same space (loading screens). We're more a ship in ED, than a person. Plus I believe, that is where FD will find the biggest problem 'scale', when they have to introduce the 'walk around' character, be it player or NPC. Everything changes then, the game will have to bring in proper scale, not imaginary. I want FD to introduce the player character, I would love that. Interact with my ship, have a crew etc.
Factions, there are going to be as many if not more factions in SC, player factions, which is probably 'no good thing' for the game, look at Eve..[where is it]
Don't mistake what SC will be like compared to ED. ED is way less complicated than SC (at the moment), well for me it looks that way (I'm no expert, not even 'amatuer' expert).
Space Engineers is way more complicated than ED, as are many space games. FD have yet to prove they can do what some other games do already, before we can brag how great ED is (and it is very good).
ED & SC are two very different games, in scale and implementation, if you don't see that, then you're not looking.
ED is a great game, I was in early, I love what FD said the game was going to be, eventually. SC will, hopefully for the players that still have all fingers crossed, be a great game, if everything goes to plan. If everything does go to plan, I'll be back in SC too.
But when SC is finished, if it gets there, ED would not compare in any type of way to SC, in its scale, or achievement, to be frank. As they stand now.
In the future that may hopefully change.
Once FD introduce player characters, then I'll take all this back, because I'll be happy playing both, because true scale will be in ED.
For now I can get all this in Space Engineers. Plus its way more hands on in SE. But SC will be like that and more. ED will also be like that, eventually (I hope).
But lets not brag, when the games are so different. Well not until we have all that in ED.
Guys, you're going to get the yaffle monster coming soon if you don't quit the off-topic.
I've not seen walking in ED, also there was a great debate in the ED forums regards loading screens and how well they were done. So no, loading screens were there. As for SC must be better... I got a refund, so I'm not in that camp at all. But there-again Space Engineers is better than both at present, for me that is. So I'm not in the ED camp either.

This is not the metric of scale. There are a buttload of games where you don't walk around with plenty of sense of scale.
The only loading screen in play is the jump to a new system. This is exactly why and how come the videos I posted were made - did you even watch them? I think you need to go check what you're talking about so you have a fair comparison against SC. Generally I get the impression your mind is set on this topic and you're not even going to go look or check.
For me the scale in SC is the funny thing when we've got people flying in and out of the atmosphere of this world within minutes... it's so tiny!
You can tell they haven't really thought some of this through. The bits where he's making it up are full of "you know" and "um", he could do with a bit of public speaking training.Just tuned into the twitch stream to hear that people will have to queue to sit-down with the mission giver and talk to him.
Yes. Actually form a line and patiently queue up. One at a time. For however long it takes to get lucky and grab the empty seat across from him.
:O
Just take a look at the comments of their stream on Youtube...
I didn't expect to see that.
Literally 90% of top comments are showing just how much people have run out of patience.

No... you can see your character in Elite. Just go to any other camera view. And OK we get it that you like Space Engineers.Size of character in-game will give size of ship, buildings, mines etc.

An example for me is this video I did. This is only a 1200km wide planet, but the scale set against a 1km long ship (not my largest ship), shines for me, when there is a player character. Because I see the scale much better than anywhere in ED, you may not, but that is where our opinions differ:
I've been questioning the possibility of such absurdity since last year, who would actually want to sit in a queue in a game?Just tuned into the twitch stream to hear that people will have to queue to sit-down with the mission giver and talk to him.
