The persistence will only respawn you back at the last place you woke up in...ship, if you logged out on a bed in your ship...if you died, last place you docked with a medical facility.

Unfortunately, if the game crashes you spawn back where you started or your last save point. With the way they ran the 'mission' in the demo...they needed all 3 since the Aquila still was under player 3's (John's) authority. He obviously hadn't handed authority to the other 2...although if his game hadn't crashed, they would have been able to assume control.

The same happens in the current baby PU...pilot's game crashes out, ship can't be piloted by anyone else in the crew...means they all need to respawn and replay the mission.

So there's no autosave when you get in your ship or to a station? Are you kidding me? This is a joke, SC is a huge joke.

In game...as in with real players playing in the PU, there would be no need. Since this demo was scripted, they had to re-accept the mission, buy the railguns...go to ship..etc, etc. Saying that, I've no idea how things would work out on a mission if the game or your PC crashes...probably similar, since the 3.0 PU is live and only saves when you log off or go to sleep in a bed.
The whole thing is nothing more than an interactive cut scene. They had to trigger each step in the exact order as scripted or the script gets stuck and whole smoke and mirrors falls apart.

There is no gameplay loop and no actual player agency.

It's just a script, which goes as this:

Wait for PC to do action X.
Play the script pretending game mechanic A.
Wait for PC to do action Y.
Play the script pretending game mechanic B.
Wait for PC to do action Z.
Play the script pretending game mechanic C.

X, Y, Z, A, B, C all all pre-defined beforehand in the exact order.

So, they are going to have face-tracking-over-the internet. Which requires a camera to follow your face. Which it can't, if you are wearing a VR headset. So have CIG abandoned VR, or are they just hoping that nobody will realise that one of their main selling points won't work with another one they have just announced?

well it seem the gaming press have taken a liking to the camera and facial software.

Most of the gaming press would take a liking towards CR when he would sh** in their face...they would even make a appriorite facial expression while holding a camera...
If it isnt clear what i think about the gaming press and its ignorant attitude towards SC,its utterly disgust. They dont even dare to ask the difficult questions or TRY to get answers that are important.

1:34:15 in that video.

One. Why did they show the attacking pilot's view?
Two. That AWFUL flight model is so cringey.

I wish they could have shown gameplay, not some scripted Star Citizen Movie from the famous director and actor, Chris Roberts.

I bought the basic pack many years ago and have since written it off. Its basically a glorified fps game, a very poor imitation of crysis. The ship flight and effects are absolute crap, what a farce after all this time and money. I may criticise FD for their snail`s pace development, but their flight mechanics and physics are so far beyond SC is just makes a mockery of it. They couldn`t even get the buggy up the ramp w/o it falling apart. CR has some neck to front that glitchy rubbish.

"Nevertheless Star Citizen looks fantastic, and the fact that all this will be possible, all going to plan, within the same server blows my mind."

Their credibility is in tatters lol wonder what the ad spend is to get a shine job like that?

edit> hilarious quote: talking about the facial capture "but the thought of sidestepping voice chat when out on an assassination mission, for example, and instead opting to use hand signals to overcome your enemy sounds really exciting."

It face capture mr reporter person, not whole body. quality journalism at it's best - or just another fantasising fanboy perhaps

Reddit has a decidedly negative response to the presentation. Lots of people saying that the progress (or lack thereof) is indefensible.

That surprises me to be honest I expected the white knights and ultras to go totally overboard letting under themselves and the neutrals to be swayed toward SC. Hum....what a (welcoming) surprise

Didn't see any of the stream, but just got the email titled "Recapping Gamescom":
Our annual Gamescom presentation just wrapped up at the Gloria Theater and, although we had some bugs along the way...
yeah, no need to read beyond that. Seems everything went as I expected.

It's vital for when they do the close-ups!!

Everyone will have eyebrows like it's Space 1999 :D
