State of the Game

As long as we assume higher dimensions to be still Euclidian space, distances in higher dimensions are equally or even further part than in the lesser dimension. For your idea to work, we would have to assume, that higher dimensions don't follow the properties of Euclidian space and distances are therefore quite different to distances in Euclidian space and that there could be a shorter distance because it is a different kind of space.
yup, basically space/time warps, not just in 4 dimensions but in others as well, around gravitational masses, a straight line through space/time enters a separate realm like a stone skipping off the surface of reality but in multiple dimensions... aaargh trying to put into words how it works in my head is hard... hence dolphin and whale minds as pilots. or rather the ship is now their body... some mad geniuses tried cephalopods, which are better at it, but the mind connections made the humans insane( sorry wrote this for a game years ago and it got stuck in my head a bit)

this is all fake nonsense. it makes about as much sense to talk about werewolves and cthulu being real.
Yeah, I assume my subconsciousness is abusing my fascination of "there is something more to reality" and is spicing all this fantasizing with some dramatic "special effects".

Well, I have a prank-loving gnome hidden somewhere deep, making fun of me like this occasionally.

Nothing to worry about, just one of many possible consequences of human brain being a multilayered construct.

I just hope, that one day, humanity catches up with my hypermind

but then you'll just have to do all of that extra work of thinking of some other way you're special and not just like everyone else.
As usual, the "optimal" solution is somewhere in between.

SOME people are special.
But not many ;)

This assumption still can fuel superiority complex if someone needs/likes it in his life,
and fixes some potential problems - e.g. makes one feel less lonely.

I would not stand having a model of reality in my head where I would think of myself as totally unique, even if it was bound with some superiority.

In all seriousness (not the superiority thing) I am actually receiving therapy for pretty much this, and annoyingly on a lot of meds just to keep me coping. so it's a thing

you know one can actually visualize 4th dimension with a little trick. In experiments with artifical life forms we normally put them on the surface of a torus. Cut and flattened out this is a 2d rectangle, where the upper side is connected to the lower side and the left to it's right side. They are still on a 3d torus, but it is represented by a 2d rectangle. So now we can add a 4th dimension to it and even visualize it, because the representation is just 3d cube (if we limit the extend of the 4th dimension). Now were we have a 3d cube of a limited size, we can add a 5th dimension by using a string of such cubes. Now moving in the 5th dimension is a jump from a position in one cube to the same position in an adjacent cube. We can add a 6th dimension, and have now a plain of cubes. And as well a 7th dimension, which would form a 3d space filled with limited size cubes, which themselves represent 4d spaces. And it can still be visualized using just 3d perspective.

If you limit the extend of the 5th to 7th dimension you can add further 3 dimensions to it and still represent them just using 3d perspective. limiting those 3 dimensions as well, allows to add another 3 dimensions and so on.

it is cool is it not?

it was this sort of stuff that led me to "straightlining" as a mode of transport, and the concept that cetacian minds are more in tune with this sort of thinking naturally, but as mammals, we could communicate in common terms as well... those that chose the better adapted but far more alien minds of cephalopods were soon driven insane by the act of travelling in such a ship

otherwise it was a pretty straightforward scifi rpg

well, we wanted to find out how evolution behaves if there are more than 3 dimensions - we actually found out, that the quickest evolution happens, when species are in a limited space which is basically a surface - 3d creatures on a 2d surface. And if you look at nature on earth, where did it evolve best - near hydrothermal vents on the ocean floor - basically a limited 3d space on a surface - then near the surface of the ocean and on land mostly as well on the surface. All creatures which would have to evolve from the start in a vast 3d space, would evolve slower and the more dimensions one adds, the slower it gets.

This experimental result basically speaks against higher life forms in higher dimensions - they didn't have enough time to evolve.

that makes a lot of sense, from an evolutionary point of view, proliferation happens only after bottlenecks, then a stasis state of gradual and slower evolution happens, where there is less environmental pressure.

Good luck.

And a lot of persistence - keeping your mind in check can be tiresome, but don't worry - IF we are in any way alike, choosing consciously what you believe/disbelieve and tracing the consequences of every choice on your inner world / how your brain works / reacts to different experiences can even become fun later.

See it as necessary climbing before fun ride ;)

I have corrupted my therapist with China Mieville, Neil Gaiman and Saki (the author, not the drink)
