i wonder how the phrase "can of worms" became part of the vernacular ... nothing about the phrase makes sense on any level ..not literally and not in the figurative way it's used.

1. nobody gets worms in a can. Nor does anyone sell a can of worms outside practical joke shops referring to the springy kind
2. in what way is a can of worms related to starting an avalanche of problems/issues that can't be stopped. Worms are not octopi ...they're quite easy to contain. Nor are worms themselves really problematic / annoying or in any other way really unwanted unless they're the tiny parasitic kind.

Daily State of Game Forecast: Clouds of apathy are giving way to a front of desperation as users try and cling to what they perceive as a shrinking queue of possible development and/or increasing period of time before the realization of that development.

Doom Level: Somewhere between Howard the Duck Movie and Fox green lighting a sci fi show you like.

You can close it right up so its nice and snug, with a little comedy hedgehogs nose poking out.

Ah I forgot this classic partridge moment!

Isn't it a fishing reference? As in kids putting worms in cans to use as bait.

The exact origin of the phrase is not completely known, but general consensus traces it back to the 1950s in the United States and literal cans of worms. Fisherman used to buy sealed metal cans of earthworms, as opposed to the plastic containers or Styrofoam cups of today. After arriving at their fishing spot, they would set the metal can down and open it. What was inside was alive and if the top was left open for too long or the can was tipped over, well, your biggest problem would no longer be catching fish. It would be catching your bait that’s wriggling away.

The earliest documented example of this phrase is found in 1951 edition of the Edwardsville Intelligencer in Illinois,
The question of command for Middle East defense against Soviet aggression is still regarded as ‘a can of worms’ at General Eisenhower’s SHAPE headquarters here.
Linguists believe that the expression is actually a more modern, Americanized version of the expression “opening Pandora’s Box,” which originally was actually a jar, but mistranslations gave us “Pandora’s Box.”

...

I am now going to name one of my ships Pandora's Jar just to see what reaction people have to it...

On second thoughts, after reading what was in the jar - I think I'm going to pass. Sounds too much like listening to Darth Ender moaning about EDO. It might be better to be chained to a rock and have your liver eaten by an eagle, only for it to grow back and have the eagle eat it again, and again, for all eternity.

Hope was also in the jar. so that means before it was opened, there was no hope. Which sounds more like EDO than opening it. ...which is more akin to what the state of things were before leading into EDO . (horrors and ugliness, but at least there was hope)

who gave the far god cultists megaships?

wouldn't it have been way easier for the corporation selling those ships to just say they were going to the thargoids, then flood the atmo with co2. space everyone. and everything.. keep the ships ..change the name and return to service like nothing happened? Keeping all that money paid... Nobody would miss the cultists or expect anything since nobody expected them to return or survive.

Win win for everyone. The cultists get to die since that was their plan anyway and the company keeps their ship instead of having it destroyed. The rest of humanity becomes a little more intelligent on avg as well.

Since we're not going to get dredgers because they're too big for players to fly ...among other things... It would be cool if fdev released stl models of the various non-flyable ships (or all ships) so we dont have to rely on grey-area distribution of ripped models from the game.

i need to add a printed dredger to my feragut
