State of VR in 3.3 Beta.

Ha, the solution to the overbright issue is easy: raise the gamma instead of lowering. Space will become 'brownish' at some point, but that hard contrast between the stars and background space will be levelled and bearable again. The cyan still burns, but that is related to the UI color set IIRC which can be managed separately. I would definitely prefer the 3.2 settings for now, but admittedly the 3.3 graphics are better overall. Everything will be fine ;)

Have to play the 10-click game each time I boot 3.3 beta, btw. But shooting those drones at planets really rocks. Reminds me of Wargames | one of the later Terminator movies where the world finally gets eradicated by a nuclear war.

Me vs. Founders World par: 13 : 4 :D

EDIT: Met CMDR Jezzer ingame and he pointed me at the NVidia Control Panel, Digital Color Correction. Set it to 20% as recommended and think I'm on the right path! :)

As far as lighting and colors in Vr try this: Turn down gamma to the left and up the interface brightness to you liking. It's not perfect but i find it satisfactory.I am using Rift with the latest Nvidia drivers 416.64

I don't think I even had to change mine, left it at whatever the default settings were.

I'm pretty sure they haven't been. Sure your stick moved left / right / up / down and recently started to twist but I've never seen the pilot press a button on the stick before.

Yeah I think you're right, up till now it's just been stick/throttle movement, not the more subtle movements. Cool.

When they showed the new UI and seeing that they were making the icons/menu larger, made me hope they added touch controllers.

Almost forgot the good news, VR wise:

The Codex screens are...rounded! So someone at least is working on VR issues :D

I think it aint so simple. People have been reported stuff being only visible in one eye in VR that I can clearly see in both. There is some reason why it shows for some but not others, and my first guess is going to be drivers. This beta seems to really want the latest drivers, seen all kinds of weird things and crashes being reported that stopped after an update.

Sorry, but i cannot confirm this. I use an Oculus Rift with latest Oculus Drivers and an GTX 1080 ti also with the latest drivers. My PC is for VR only and has besides a fresh Windows install only Project CARS 2 and Elite installed... still, most of the new effects are only rendered on the left eye.

Anyone able to pick sides in CZs and scenarios? I just get 'not invited to channel' in the comms, and the choice appears when I look away. :p

Hmm, strange stuff. Will try a neutron msyelf, that one seems the most consistently bugged as far as I can tell.

Am very pleased with the visuals so far, apart from the right eye bug that is affecting most of the new screens, such as DSS and FSS. Latest drivers here.

The biggest issue I've had is after using the disco scanner for a while, I fired a probe and for some reason, the right screen has a ghost image of the canopy frame, the left eye is completely normal. I have no idea.

Yes, I had the same effect of only showing some effects on the left eye on some things

  • volumetric shadows - left eye has them, right has none
  • blue mapped planet surface - left eye looks correct, right eye is "off" ... it flickers when I look with both eyes
  • scanning mode - ghosts of cockpit canopy on right eye, which e.g. remove the yellow-orange hotspots in rings
  • ...

I also don't like the letterbox view of the FSS screen. Should have some curvature in VR. Also, I didn't know the "help screen" was invisible, or that clicking 10 times would work through the tutorial and let me use the FSS - I guess I accidentally did that a few times and couldn't figure out why it started working...

QA has collected a lot of bug reports on seperate effects on each eye / effects missing on one eye into one thread on the bug forums now, and are looking into it.

I'm now thinking they will put one poor guy in VR to check everything reported [wacky] :p

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they have one Dev assigned to VR... that's more commitment than I imaged they had, but way less than they should have.

Poor guy indeed!

Yup, seems we have an identical issue here. The Q&A staff and Frontier seem to be pretty focused on this topic though. Good, that they are on it :)

However, the new lighting and the color grading makes the game look like something completely new. The visuals are stunning, so just keep the thumbs up, that the issue is getting sorted fast :)
