Station Landing Pad Number Assignment Highlighted Suggestion

Even more comical are people with 0 reading comprehension.

If I'm playing a flight sim, then I would please like to fly. And I want to FIND my own landing pad, too. Situational awareness is a part of pilot's skill set, and it's utilised in docking also. Compass and highlighting take away from it. To me it would be akin to using a racing line in a racing sim (useful as it might be). I don't want that amount of handholding in Elite. And there is always a docking computer.

So wait, the compass is too much too? LOL.... I know right? I mean landing lights, ILS, trim wheels, altitude hold, ODB hold, GPS, RADAR, FPI... all just hand-holding crap for pilots that ought to be flying a Sopwith Camel and a stick and no windshield. Goggles are all a real pilot needs.

Pad numbering is clockwise in big stations. By going in with the green side on your right pad one will be below you. This way you already have an imagination where your pad will be before entering the station.

Regards,
Miklos
I finally realized that, the creators being British, they landing pads might be easier to access if I approached with green on the Left, just like their roads. Sure enough, when I use that approach, the pads are always below me or to the side rather than above. Since I fly large ships, I know that pads 10 and 25 are in the back, pads 17 and 39 are in the middle and pads 2 and 24 are closet to the entrance.

Pad coloring is not a HUD element.

I think it may be actually, I'm sure I struggled to find a pad when my cockpit made a rapid unscheduled disassembly and I had to rely solely on the compass.

Sorry not trying to be a smartarse, happy to be proven otherwise 👍

Is it? Need to check it out, maybe I'm mistaken.
But if it's actually a HUD element, then it makes very little sense to have it on all pads, not only on yours. :)

It would be a helpful addition OP, of course, we would need an option to switch it off for the hardcore players <wink> but I would use it for sure.

Oh it's a HUD display for sure. Loosing my widow often in Goid fights that Compass is a god-send cause you have nothing in the missing areas. What I'm not sure of, is if that's linked to the color pallet setup that people use to change HUD colors. It's a cosmetic for Carriers which can have any of several pad holo colors.

Ignore my wrongness. I watched a video confirming it was there. I would have swore it was not last time I had to run with a busted canopy but nay:

Thanks I was literally just about to destroy my canopy and try and land to remind myself. These Cobra Mk.IV canopies are getting harder to find as spares too...

ye wouldnt work in open if people all have different coloured landing pads purchased. Stations will become a multicoloured light show.
CMDR Galahad has suggested the most elegant solution so far, in my opinion. Only your own assigned pad needs to show, and only you need to see it!

Somebody tell the pilots fed sharpish.

That would mean these landing pads must be projected from the individual ship, otherwise how can different players see different things. Wouldn't really fit into the lore imo and would feel cheap.

Edit: Also adding onto that, as the landing pad will be like a heads up display on the cockpit, when cmdr's have a broken canopy the pad shouldn't be visible, which will cause all sorts of issues.

LOL, I'm perfectly fine with being able to see all pads highlighted, it's just that if it's actually only a HUD element and not some kind of holograms above the pads, then it's a pretty stupid design. :)

Actually I'm full of it. It's visible with no canopy glass present. Not a HUD element then. Could have sworn it was missing when I came roaring in with no canopy in my clipper. Guess I was a little too focused on that timer.

I was sure I had remembered it that way too. Ah well, back to whatever was agreed before.

Actually no, I'm never landing ever again in protest. I'll set up my own mini community goal for food cartridges and water to be delivered to my solitary crater-based landing zone, and spend the rest of my days on foot Odyssey style...

Folks, I only made the suggestion because I am colorblind to yellow, for which most of the orbital stations use. Ground bases use blue which I can see and it works for me.

I did not make it to suggest an "easy" mode. For those hardcore, I'll go with being able to leave the default color for the majority of players and suggest a graphics section for the visually impaired where certain graphics settings could be adjusted for that purpose.
