Store Icon Protest

I would dare to disagree with this bit if I may.
"Community" isn't a person and more importantly, "community" isn't a game designer. "Community" at its best doesn't know what it wants and at its worst demands ridiculously antithetic features.
The only thing "community" agrees on is that the game should be better, but it has hundreds of thousands of conflicting and mutually incompatible ideas of how it should be done.

Listening to the community may be good for the PR, but it isn't ever going to be good for the game.
Usually I would agree, but this is not instant vs delayed ship transfers. Many people are in agreement that the icon should be orange or gone. Those who don't agree seem to be indifferent about it. So I see no harm in spending 5 minutes to switch the colour of an icon as long as it makes people happy.

Just from a devil’s advocate perspective.

In terms of immersion, isn’t the store providing in-game items and isn’t the pimping of our ships done by in-game spray shops?

That said, that immersive view is served perfectly well from the Livery screen and certainly doesn’t need to be quite so Blue.

Yes, imho in game there should only be an icon in the ship tab for the ship paint and then from the ship paint there should be the link to the store. This is how I would do it.
I would also add another one in the outfitting menu on stations that have outfitting

So having a blue store icon is bad and immersion breaking, but the previous iteration where we could change our appearance, ship livery (with its link to the store) was fine? I think it's an insult to other players to suggest that they are going to buy stuff purely because there's a blue icon instead of orange.

If this is the biggest issue that people have with the game, things must be pretty good right now.

Done, I don't like the blue icon either, it's like a zit you can't squeeze and it's just there, glowing at you. It's a pain in the arx

The time to worry would be when people don't complain.

Well, I want to frontier put this in blue, apparently so I would not always forget them

If everyone who played the game was also an active member of this forum, and a majority were complaining about any particular issue, then one would expect the developers to take some notice.
As a minority of the actual player base inhabit this forum (and some of those inhabitants openly declare they have stopped playing) and of that minority only another minority are 'offended' by the new store icon & its placement, the best thing Frontier could do is ignore the noise being made...

Then they could spend their development time doing something more productive... e.g. bug fixing :)

I will be interested to see how FD respond. IF it stays it is not going to make me quit but it is pretty clear no one actively likes the jarring button. Best case people don't care either way and worst case it is down right annoying.
In the past -when it has not been a deliberate game design issue- FD have been fairly respectful when players have made this much rukus ,, when technically fessible. Offllinegate players got refunds, instant fast travel FD reverted back to timed like in DDF, selling credits in store FD scrapped ,(which was not what I wanted but I respect I was a minority,) and the engineering roulette wheel got binned

OTOH the travesty that is holome multicrew stayed and Mac users still got dumped but both of these were pretty labour intensive to fix.

I guess it comes down to the bottom line of do FD think they will ultimately gain more fans, sales and positive advertising by keeping it in even if it ruffles a few existing players feathers or not.

Like I said ... It's interesting.
At least they have not done something as devisive as adding 3rd person view like in MWO yet!.

That's a bit of a false metric in my opinion.

Has anyone actually come out and said they like the orange ui either? In actual fact... there's plenty who don't like the orange either. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...colour-color-configs-please-add-yours.259311/

So... let's just change everything to blue instead

I actually wonder now what anyone who doesn't use default colours thinks.

Edit: in reality... colors, jarring or not, have nothing to do with it imo... just people getting unreasonably wild about being marketed to. Nothing new, in any game frankly.

Can't browse the Arx store at an outpost that doesn't have Outfitting. How does that work? Why's that a thing?
Why is livery still unavailable docked at a non-Outfitting station when I can go back to the main menu and change my livery there?

The inconsistency in this update just doesn't make sense.

Guess someone didn't gave it a proper thought.
As i said, the Store (blue or orange or even purple) should not be there at all. It belongs to Livery

I am one of those who don't use default colours - mainly because I play in VR, and the default orange is badly suited to the Rift's (coarse) pentile matrix. For my chosen colour set, the highlighted (blue) items in the default scheme are bright red (see .sig). It's not the absolute colour I object to, that's my personal problem and my option to change if I think I need to - it's the fact that, if that button has to be there in the first place, it's permanently highlighted.

Orange light has a longer wavelength and reduces eyestrain. Its just FDEV protecting grinders from themselves as with the 400 ARX per week limit.

That's true, although...
I'm not getting wild, but that icon somehow kills my "gaming mood". Instead of having fun in game world, when I look at it I'm reminded that what I do is waste my time with programmed pixels people make money of.

Marketing should be subtle- this option should be there when you might need it (why not Livery?), but never in your face. This remids me of cheap interenet advertisements.

Fair enough.

I barely notice it... and over a 2 hour session today, i would've had opportunity to see it four times. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Compared to YouTube ads, ads in mobile apps and ads on virtually every website i go to, the button is pretty sublime.

They aren't. :(

The store button is an in-your-face commercial.
