I'd pay $15 a month for a server/client structure so when you go into Lave, it's actually a bustling port with hundreds of players. Or expeditions can finally group together in the same instance instead of crashing the ED server.
Same.
I still maintain Frontier should have had a look around at how F2P MMO's handle their business and implement something similar.
Elder Scrolls Online, for example, gives players access to all expansion content as long as they continue paying per month; if they cancel said sub, they lose access to the content, but they can still buy the expansion once off. This process is two fold, some people might want access to the content now, but can't afford the expansion price; and it gives players with disposable income a way to continuously support the game.
Frontier could implement a similar feature, they'd get more than what they charge for on a single expansion, as 15 a month is 180 a year. If only 100 players subbed ( won't be difficult, there's three right here, lol ), that's $18,000 a year; as opposed to 100 players buying an expansion for $60, which is $6,000; simply by hosting servers, and charging $15 a month to whomever is willing could net Frontier three times as much money from each CMDR; and I'm sure (open to correction) $18,000 a year could easily cover a single mega-server.
But, we digress; the post is about stuff on the store.
In which case: ... Monthly subscription cards. ^_^
