Stutter Stutter Stutter since 1.3 - near stations, asteroids, and pretty much anything that has a model and collision

It is actually much worse since 1.3 (powerful machine here based on i7), especially in asteroid fields /RES zones. Tried everything, but not much chance with these lags. No problem around stations or inside, just during supercruise near planets and during close combat in asteroid fields.

I had stuttering as well on my GTX 680 card. Then I bought a GTX 970 card and the stuttering was gone. ( it was a planned buy)
However the pre catching of shaders, it takes longer time on the new card than the older one.

I'll say it again in this thread, only because I'd like the devs to hear some other voices.

My performance has never been better since 1.3. I hope the folks that have issues get them sorted, but man!!! I'm running near perfectly! I just hope whatever
it takes to 'fix' you guys doesn't mess with me!

Yeah Even though I am experiencing an issue, It is very specific, so I would hate for them to drastically change something that is not the cause either.
I still think there is more than one cause and also more than one definition of stutter.
In my case I will say that my problem is minor. I have silky smooth almost everywhere except under one situation only:

When I am in or just above the roids in the rings of a gas giant and I am flying full speed in the same direction. Every 5 or 10 secs I get a brief pause. This does not happen when I play the offline combat missions. Only online which is why I though it may have something to do with network (ie loading distant roids)
However on more experimentation and logging of stats I see that the pauses under the above scenario occur at the same time there is a spike in one of the CPU cores that the game is using. So now I just have to identify why this only happens when I am flying through roids when online and not roids when offline. Hyper thread on or off makes no diff.
It is related to distance travelled too. If I am constantly flying through the roids in the one direction (any direction but in a straight line) , the time between pauses varies depending on how fast I am traveling. At full speed they might be every 10 secs or so, at half speed they are about 20 secs, etc.
I am loading up the mobo tweaker to see if I can get around it.

I've noticed this as well .... Unfortunately I now get stutter in SC and stations as well, which is new with 1.3. All my settings are identical to 1.2. I'm playing on a 4.5 ghz i5 with a Titan GPU.

Before 1.3, Elite: Dangerous was smooth as butter. Frame rate through the roof. All ultra settings. Life in Space was good...

The new 1.3 comes along... now if I'm near a station, in a station, in a resource asteroid belt, or near a few other ships... the game becomes stutter stutter stutter, frame loss, stutter. And sometimes while flying by large asteroids, the entire asteroid isn't drawn... which makes it deadly for near misses.

Anyone else experiencing this? Sure would suck to give up my favorite space game cause a new patch makes the frame rate low when near other objects, which makes it difficult to hit targets, land, and fly by anything.

When I'm all alone in the black of space, it's smooth as usual. But whatever they did to 1.3 my two graphics cards don't like it. :(

I'm currently using two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti, The CPU is an AMD FX 9370 Eight-Core Processor, and I got 16 gigs of ram running windows 7 ultimate.

The rig doesn't have any problems running any other games. GTAV is fine, Stranded Deep, Shadow of Mordor, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Kerbal Space Program, Dying Light, and more... in fact, Elite: Dangerous 1.2 ran just fine. Whether flying cargo between star systems, or in the fray in a war zone... :-/

I kinda wish I could have Elite: Dangerous back.

Surely, I'm not the only one experiencing this. Right? :)

I have also had these micro stutters since 1.2 on approach to planets, starports etc, and had much worse since 1.3. As mentioned previously, when battling in a RES against 3 or 4 pirates, dodging those big-a**ed rocks (in a 'conda) gets mighty scary when that frame hangs for a moment....

After reading through all the posts I noticed a comment for those Nvidia users about changing the PhysX. Like probably most of you, I had mine set to default (to GPU). Just to try it as it was starting to drive me mad, I change it to CPU and....

IT WORKED FOR ME !!!!!!

Woohoo !!! No more stutter !!!!

Got a nice smooth ride again - what a difference!!! ED is back !!!

If your a Nvidia user, try it - you have nothing to lose...

Custom rig - Win7 Ult, i5 with GTX970, 16Gb Vengeance fully water cooled - I like it quiet :)

Mine was always set to GPU, and for some dumb reason never thought to change this to CPU for testing, I REALLY hope you are on to something!! Will test this out tonight!

It's bad enough that entering and leaving a starport is an easy way to end up paying insurance. Between the crazy hitching and stuttering, and the random thruster control malfunctions that slam you into the walls, it's a wonder I haven't killed the ship yet.

Definitely broke some things somewhere.

With that edit, do we remove the other parameters and change the 1 to 0, or just change ShaderWarmingEnabled to 0 and leave the rest?

Code:
    <PlanetNoiseTextures
        Enabled="1"
        ShaderWarmingEnabled="1"
        ShaderWarmingDialogAnimTimeInMs="600"
    />

Just switching enabled to "0" should be enough.

Interesting - has this worked for anyone else?

The final 1.2 iteration had eradicated stutter and having to double scan a lot of things during exploration for me, in fact it was probably the best the game has run for me.

1.3 reintroduced both. 1.3.05 has been slightly better in respect of double scans though I hit a patch on my return to the bubble last night where everything had to be double scanned, but I noticed the stuttering more again when approaching a station in SC. On the bright side at least I've not had any crash to desktops with 1.3.05. Yet.

Have set my PhysX to GPU in nV prefs panel so will see how that works out tonight.
