Subnautica

That cry of ultimate suffering you just heard was me dying in my 63 hour Hardcore save... while installing a thermal generator of all things. Got too dang greedy for power for my own good, trying to place the generator in a great place, and didn't notice my health bar dropping until it was too late. :(

Time to start again, and see what's changed in the early game now that the game has gone live.

I fell through the ground in hardcore in my prawn suit, I just managed to boost into a tunnel beneath me and stop the fall into crush depth. That would have been a bad one.

EDIT : if you get a splurge of terrain popping in slowly stop and wait, it happened because I got ahead of the pop in. Only ever happens in the prawn.

True, but we bought it because they hinted for a co-op experience. Which they backed out of for reasons. So yeah, it's gathering dust for now, shall see. I know it's awesome, otherwise it would not have showed up on our radar. Same with Salt, really. It was a really fun little game about being a pirate on a procedurally generated sea, but once the multiplayer update hit, it became even better, seeing the others messing around. As for the whole playing alone is a waste of time, it actually is. Once I get home from work I have around 2-3 hours of free time, so I can choose to either play a singleplayer game, or spend that time with my friends in a game we can play together. Latter kinda wins most of the time.

At least LOCAL co-op would be damn awesome in sharing of resources and trying to figure out how to survive and build and be reliant on each other...unliked Day-Z the random murder simulator for example.

I can't really see the point of co-op in subnautica, it's a sole survivor single player game with a story.

Well the Aurora did release over 25 life pods.. who knows, maybe someone else survived been eaten alive by the biters, gastropods, sand sharks etc...

Or maybe you just lucky / unlucky and survived by yourself, stranded on an alien water planet, where even the water wants to kill you!

As for me, i`ve been in this game since first early release, and put it aside to play elite, farcry 3 & 4(soon 5) and my other addiction- Planetbase.. just mentioning it makes my fingers twitch...
But i twas watching and helping Chaowulf the last few weeks when he has been playing SubN, and i got that "go play it now" twitch... cue another 30+ hours of gameplay..

This game is like the kanar virus, it gets under your skin and you have to play it!
Swim safe and try not to die in the ALZ!

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
It used to be indestructible but sinkable (and repairing a sunk one was fun) so I decided to see what happens if you leave it on fire with holes in it, turns out it explodes and kills you (if you are inside). So don't do that, especially on hardcore mode.

This time I won't do anything quite so foolish.

Good to know! I'm sure I'll be g out the first time I take damage in my cyclops. "Noooo! Not my new ride!!!! I worked too hard for this!!" :p

Ouch! :D
Respect, tho. o7.

Yeah, not sure about co-op. The feeling of isolation and of having your fate entirely in your own hands is part of the appeal. /shurg

You can run about inside with a fire extinguisher and repair tool, and the damage display shows you where the external breaches are and what's burning, it can also take an awful lot of punishment..................I just chose to sit and watch it burn/sink which in retrospect wasn't such a good idea.

Agreed, it just wouldn't be the same if the neighbors could drop in

In case your Cyclops was destroyed, she sinks. But that just opens a whole another level of gameplay. You have to build a new Cyclops and go salvage the old one! All things you built on the old Cyclops are still there, except for the growbeds and the vehicle that you may have docked there. But lockers, crafting stations and everything else remains in the wreck, plus there are pieces of equip, materials and components dotted around the wreckage. It makes for a really awesome experience to scurry around, trying to save what you can, while, of course, trying to avoid the thing that killed you in the first place. :D

Anyway, I would strongly recommend the fire module and shields before you brave the deepest depths. ;)

The point is you can then have a coop survivor game with a story that you can play with your friends. Like the original Baldur's Gate had.

Then you would be free to not use the feature. If other people want to build a base together and swim down to scavenge stuff for a session, what exactly is your major issue with it?

What specific things do you think would be improved by more players ?.

Being with more players is the improvement. I getting the feeling you dont fully grasp the concept. But just because you dont get why other people like playing with other people, doesnt mean its bad in itself. You can just stick to solo if you want. Just take other people's word for it that they consider it fun.

Subnautica is a success and perfect game as single player. Anyone who wants to coop goes play something else.

As much as I agree that Subnautica is a success as SP game, I can see why ppl want coop experience. During early access stage I was against any diversion from SP content development, but since game is released now I think devs could work on MP features if community desire it.

That's a generic non-specific argument in favour of co-op games lacking any of the specifics I asked you for. It also has nothing to do with subnautica.

Why don't you try again.

I would love to see the same reasoning applied to FD. If the community wanted (and indeed wants) we could have a single player offline mode for ED.:D

You gather stuff in Subnautica to build other stuff. People like gathering stuff with friends to build stuff. In subnautica you can only gather stuff on your own. So to people who like gathering stuff with friends that isnt as much fun. Someone in this very topic even said it was an insta-not-buy because it didnt have it. You dont have to understand it, just accept that that is how many people are.

Anyway, feel free to come up with some lame response about why its wrong for other people to want to play with friends in this computer game. I'm out.

I think it is very difficult to add that at this point though. But still, would have been cool.

It has nothing to do with me or my gaming preferences, it's about subnautica being a very good single player game that wouldn't benefit from co-op due to way it's been made.

I asked you for specifics because I don't think you've ever played it and you are just trying to have an "it should have co-op" argument which you are trying (and failing) to make personal. That's why you are limited to generic replies about co-op, gathering of "stuff" or making incorrect inferences about my gaming preferences/understanding.

Interesting exchange about a feature that devs very clearly said they will not implement. But that's kind of the leitmotif of this place, isn't it? :D

Anyway, earlier in the thread I linked a fan project to mod the game with multiplayer support. I think it's nearing the beta stage, so you can try it out. (or not, depending on which camp you're from.)
