DLC18 discussion and predictions

Is not announcing the end of support a normal thing in the industry? I've seen certain games announce development ending but that's usually just games that have been around for a long time. In the case of JWE2 it just feels super weird not to since they've already kinda soft-announced the next game.
I think it is normal really, there's a few select games that actually engage with their community with roadmaps and stuff but sadly it isn't a common practise. We must be so desperate for news on games we get upset each time a games ending isn't announced with the final update. These speculation threads are both a good and bad thing in that regard.

I’m pretty sure this was covered already, but the update to Steam is arbitrary right? By that I mean how long it takes from that update to release of the dlc. Couldn’t they update on steam and then release the dlc in the next week? I’m just curious to see how long we will have to wait if we see an update this week or next.

It's sort of arbitrary. Theoretically they could release a DLC without the outsource_lqa being updated at all (i.e., if they got everything translated in advance) but that would be a unique moment to say the last. It's been several weeks from outsource_lqa update the last few years.

But we've seen a pretty standard pattern between DLCs over the years so I think it's safe to assume it'll be a few weeks out once we see it. Sooner is always possible but less likely (and some of it depends on if they find issues in the translations too, as I understand it).

Coastal Expansion Pack:
Pacific Walrus
Coatimundi [Cozumel Island]
Howler Monkey [Guayanan red]
Brown Pelican
Sea Otter
Carribean/American Flamingo
Southern Rockhopper Penguin
Atlantic Puffin/King Eider
Nene
Victoria's Crowned Pigeon
Southern Elephant Seal/South American Sea Lion
Amazonian Pirahna's [E]
Coconut Crab [E]
About the Southern Elephant Seal, have they ever been held in captivity before?

Here's my idea for a Polar pack.

I like it :) except beluga and snowy owl might not be do-able so one of them would surely be swapped with walrus since that is really top wishlisted here. Then I don't know if also harp seal or ribbon seal and elephant seal would make it into the same pack since there is already one. Maybe eurasian ermine could take one place or another penguin like the macaroni or similar with the yellow feathers on the head.

I put the Elephant Seal in my idea for a Coastal Animal Pack.

Alright time for a game - You can only choose 2 to guarantee in the final pack.
walrus and secretary bird
Random question but does anyone know what the deal with JWE is? By the looks the
Recent one is the last, but did frontier say anything on the matter?
It likely is since they sort of confirmed the next game is coming next year

Its not that common simply because most modern games especially those that use a similar business model as planet zoo dont stop updating until a sequel comes out most games do eventually announce the end of development when fans ask enough about it but it usually isnt common to announce it as soon as they are done. This is to avoid situations like terraria which has had multiple developer confirmed final major updates.

Frontier uniquely has this problem due to their consistency in telling us nothing during development so we truly will not have any idea the game ended until we miss a dlc release period and we will never get outright confirmation.

Other games for instance give road maps such as the sims which routinely provides details quarterly on what will be happening and we will know almost immediately when the game stops getting developed since we wont get those quarterly updates and the sims is more transparent about the development of a sequel already informing players of its development.

Yeah, but certainly never commonly. Off the top of my head I know Brookfield had at least one a looong time ago, and Zootierliste actually cites 3 Argentinian facilities as having them currently. I also read recently that SeaWorld Orlando supposedly has a rescue behind the scenes, but I'm not 100% positive off hand if that was southern.

But still, it's definitely one of those species whose captive presence I would say is pretty much negligible. If it won’t work in over 99.9% of realistic zoos, there’s generally going to be a better option.

Better is subjective... sure alternatives may be more realistic... but are they as interesting? Unique? Desirable? Fun?

What was the situation?
finish the sentence and it explains why. They developed an update said it would be the last major one then for various reasons they constantly retract that statement and make another one this is only a problem because they announce it too early to be certain.

Well it's just said "which has had multiple developer confirmed final major updates" but was it a problem after? Did players riot or what happened?
