It was discovered long ago, I just didn't want to spoil it. I liked the audio messages at the crash site. If I didn't go on the forums once, would be better.
Is there no simple guide to new planetary POI-hunting? Seems like it would take up a single paragraph. Poster #2 would be nice to do this.
I’ll give you a starter on your search paragraph:
Beige Burrowing Process (First draft)
Define a timeout beyond which you are unwilling to waste time (be aware surface search can take many days or weeks depending on planet size)
If timeout times out (!) then GOTO Terminate
Start:
Approach a landable planet you want to search
Descend to an appropriate height above the surface (varies from 2km to 20 km depending on pilot’s preferences and level of optimism)
Fly over whole surface of planet looking for interesting things. If a blue POI circle appears on your scanner display then it’s a Random POI and probably not all that interesting; if you spot something that doesn’t have a blue POi circle then you have either found something of real significance (congratulations Commander! Immediately report it on as many forum threads as you can find, with supporting visual evidence), have mistaken (this is a very frequent occurence) a shadow or rendering artefact for something significant, or are suffering Surface Search Madness (an incurable malady closely related to the wider Space Madness)
If you find nothing and have searched the whole planet at least twice (because you may have blinked and missed something first time round) and are not yet bored or suffering Surface Search Madness then GOTO Start ELSE GOTO Terminate
Terminate:
find something else to do
I started a thread a while ago with suggestions to FD for improvements to surface search to capture some of the numerous ideas that were floating around in the Canonn thread at that time, the hope was to get some improvements in 2.3; we’re still waiting!
