Thargoid Interactions

Curious, I got one to chase me down to a moon (1 of the TS sites), & it followed me down to about 70km altitude, maybe it depends on the gravity?

Interesting. What did it do when it reached that height? Mine after around 1 hour of flight it just vanished. First the ship and after a few seconds the swarm. Still had 1000 km to go.

My first basilisk encounter, the scan'n'rammed me hard enough to knock 300 over 360 shields, and continuing to bowl me over. It then flashed green a bunch and left me to scan cargo.

Sounds like you were just dropped onto the Thargoid, I very nearly had that once, I was dropped so close to it I nearly rammed it & it was instantly aggro'd! Fortunately it calmed down after I backed off ;).

After going up & down a few times after the initial chase, that's when I noticed the Cyclops just stopped at 70km (with a little bit of side to side movement), but the swarm carried on a little, I'm not sure exactly but something like 5-6 km, I'm assuming that's the limit of their range from their mothership.
Oh, & at that point they turn into missiles! After it sent 2 swarms after me it then jumped out.

We may have found something on the Thargoid Data Gathering Thread, but we need more "boots on the ground" to gather more data.

Anyone at a loose end and looking to prove/disprove something that might be important in understand the Thargoids, head on over here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...d-your-help!?p=6140490&viewfull=1#post6140490 and read down to get the idea. It would be great if you could also grab LCU's EDMC plugin from the front page too.

Basically it's this:

People have always assumed NHSS appear throughout the 150-ish LY shell centred on Merope - with one exception, Merope has no NHSS spawns.

Yesterday we realised it's not just Merope, it appears to be several surrounding systems as well - apparenty creating a small "dead Zone" bubble approx 10ly in radius right at the centre of the UA shell.

A few of us have managed to spend some hours trying to find NHSS in several of these systems, but there's 24 we need to check in total, plus getting verification on the ones we've checked already. We're working under the rule that if no NHSS appear within 30-40 minutes of constant SC in a system, you can scratch it off the list and call it a Dead Zone.

Once we've figured out which systems are "dead Zones" we want to try to figure out why - so far the dead zones appear... random. Some have a huge human population (relatively), at least one has an AEGIS base, at least two are empty of all planets, etc.

With even just a handful of cmdrs this investigation into where NHSSs don't occur around Merope could be over pretty quickly :).

I was barely pulling away from an angry Basilisk at 450m/s in my Python.

450!?? I would say you weren't pulling away at all at that speed!, even the normal Cyclops can go faster than that, somewhere around 460-470 m/s, maybe faster.
IIRC Optimal_909's (spelling?) FDL boosts to about 540 m/s & he said he was just about able to pull away from a Basilisk!
After seeing that my FDL (which boosts to ~500) was only moderately able to pull away from a Cyclops I decided against using my Python (boost ~445 m/s) in search & rescue missions, in case a Thargoid turned hostile on me.
I brought my old Cobra mk3 out of retirement :), gave it a little engineering so it now boosts to ~520, added military armour & a collector limpet controller, & it makes a perfect search & rescue ship :), although it can't take much heat from the Thargoids of course! (The FDL didn't have enough module slots).

The TSs in the 10ly dead-zone may have already been collected, thus no spawns. My 2 cents.

I've been having Cyclops scan me and park for a moment with no lights when I have meta-alloys. They even make a whimper, like a dog waiting for a treat. They sit until I eject them all or refuse for 5-10 seconds, then pick up any I dropped. When I eject them all, they pick them up just as the last one pops out.

The Basilisk have been similarly parking, almost always after they deploy thargons. They don't turn red. They just look at me for 5-10 seconds before getting angry if I didn't back up.

Clearly, to me, they turn off lights when waiting for you to do something. What does the Basilisk want? Maybe it's just confident enough to look at me and think "really, guy? really...ugh." I'm going to try to give it meta-alloys, too.

I took a 700m/s Courier and boosted along with the 'goids, attempting to enter their portal. I managed to be in front of it twice, and when it pinched me against the portal I spun like crazy. Next time I'm going to try having my FSD charged for high-wake before it opens the portal and see if something happens when I try to go through. They open portals at the edge of mass-lock exactly, if deep enough in the field, so might be hard.

They have EM-drives or similar for sure, too, like an FSD for normal space. I was pushed away from their full-thrust "exhaust" rather equal/opposite-like and with little maneuverability, perhaps a result of space-time pressure.

Sounds like a hint that communication may be possible with them with the external lights? Morse code?

Going to try some blinking at Basilisks after I upgrade this Cobra III's engines. It's going to be rather haphazard

A question. A friend of mine noted the Thargoid's tendrils during a "barnacle harvest" look like the tendrils holding up Links at the bases. Has anyone tried to avoid its pulse wave and shoot these tendrils?

Also, anyone take a Cutter full of MA and dump them at once? If you drop more than 5 MA, the goids call for backup. How about 720 MA?

Well for 1 thing, when the can's start blowing up the Tgoids turn hostile on you, we're assuming because they think we did it!

TY. So that still needs to be done in a tedious manor, interesting. The cure for stations was 1t at a time, maybe the cure for Thargoids is, too.

Now, has anyone tried giving one goid a link, a probe, a sensor, and maybe an MA? Maybe they are trying to use their own bases, these artifacts and maps can't be just for us.

I took a detour to get a fuel limpet rack, having read a listening post mentioning going to help an out-of-fuel pilot then found a pilot out of fuel with no way to refuel them. Needless to say I didn't get much flashing in...

The notable flash session though, I had a probe on me and after it scanned me it parked. I failed to hit the right morse signal intended, so I just started flashing rhythmically, randomly, sporadically, then rhythmically. It stayed parked for a good 12 seconds before getting super cheesed, deploying thargons, and chasing my subsequent retreat down. He was not going much faster than 350m/s during this chase (I was doing 500+), and did not fire.

I don't know if the flashing delayed it so long, or if it was because I hadn't dropped a thing. Previously, I'd see them park until I stopped dropping MAs for 5 seconds, or if I didn't drop they just gave up and moved on. This was a Probe, however, so apples and oranges right now.

Definately too tired to go on, I've lost focus. Another day.

Pardon the quality and abrupt nature of this following interaction. I wont be opening ED again until I just deal with OBS.

So my ship for the refueling tip is an unarmed Orca with 3 Elite trader decals. On my way out, I had 1t of every good I could buy from HIP17655 (refinery) and 1 Probe. Jumping from one of the last Pre-Logistics military systems, I was hyperdicted. They EMPed and I dodged, that 1 turned red and deployed thargons as I reversed away from the pack. I stopped, they all approached. The 1 that had EMPed me dimmed, scanned me, and turned green. The others were dark during this time. 3 seconds post scan while still green, the middle 1 turned red and deployed thargons. I promptly ejected the Probe, retreated to 1.5km, and it just dimmed. On my way the third 1 deployed thargons and did an S-swoop to behind the Probe from my perspective, with the kind of agility only seen in battle, then rapidly scooped it. All 3 stared me down for 3 seconds after as the scanner and the scooper flashed green, the middle guard dimmed, then another 2 seconds of them all dark. Finally, the scanner and scooper took off, followed 3 seconds later by the middle guard.

TL:DR - I was kind of in a panic, so no scan data on this expert wing; they were extremely misleading and there were 3 of them demanding loot or my life.

The ordeal raised my confidence they are military stop'n'frisks, having been hyperdicted only jumping out of military systems, in big ships, or with AX weapons.

I’ve only been hyperdicted a couple of times, and thta was when I’d just collected UAs.

Probably the better thread for this but have others had an encounter with a Cyclops and Basilisk in the same instance?

Sorry can't post the video from where I am at the moment.

While scanning for NHSS's in Pleiades Sector IR-W D1-55, I dropped into the Distress Call POI around planet 6 and ran into a cyclops and a basilisk. From the sequence of events I can't be sure if they were both hostile towards me or whether the basilisk was hostile to the cyclops as I didn't stick around or last to see where the basilisk's thargons were heading, but I believe it was targeting me but could be wrong.

Maybe someone who hasn't been to that POI before could see if they can get a cyclops and basilisk in the instance together and a better idea of what the relationship between the two is.

Anyone else had this:

Jumped into electra looking for a threat 6 (just happened to be loaded with guardian stuff for another experiment)

Saw a thargoid probe all by itself and no sign of any thargoid ships..... held off scooping it for a couple of mins... then thought heck.. lets grab it

Scooped it.... got a instant unknown wake warning followed by a basalisk arriving (mis timed my anti-shutdown thingy) and then it got very angry when it scanned me

'made it out....... just'[blah]

Actually it is quite easy to get both variants in one instance: drop 5 or more meta-alloys for a Basilisk and wait for it to call a buddy. When I tried that the first time, the other one jumping in was a Cyclops variant. I even got a detailed scan of the second one and managed to back off to a safe distance from it before it turned hostile.

We're testing a theory, can everyone that sees two of the same type of ships do your very best to note the logograms (two or more Basilisk, two ore more Cyclops).

Can you make a post if you see two ships with the same logogram in the same place together - ***has to be identically the same*** (that's the only condition that counts for this test).

We're testing the idea that there's only ever one of each logogram-ship active at any one time - that means at any given time there should be only 57 Cyclops ships active at once and 114 Basilisk - once one is destroyed a new one is made/grown/activated and stamped with the same logog as the one just lost.

The easiest way to disprove this is to see two identically stamped ships simultaneously :)

Thanks!

Hey - I just had a similar - NHSS6 with only a probe - scooped it, the was leaving and got the 'Frameshift Anomoly' message. Thargoid arrived (quite a way away) disabled me and jumped back out without scanning me. Maybe becaiuse I was leaving I was out of it's scan range?

And one more while I'm here: I was attempting to 'play' an UL to a Basilisk. Dropped into an NHSS, dropped the UL and played it. Basilisk stares until I drop the TS / TP I also have. Then scoops all three (it is happy, not aggroed). Then it wanders away and another Thargoid drops in. I know you can drop 5 Meta-alloys to get a 2nd Thargoid, not sure if anyone has reported it with 3 items - let me know!
