Thargoid Non-Aggression Pact!

Thargoid Passive Research Initiative - Cmdr Rixaeton - 01
Some observations:
1) Thargoids do not care about Thargoid Resin or Thargoid Technology Samples
2) When telling your mothership to "hold position" be sure it is more than a certain distance from the Thargoid (perhaps over 500m?)
2.1) Thargoid aggro at 2:00. Launch tharglets at 2:03, warning sound at 2:05, Attack decision sound at 2:20, back off to 3km and attack at 2:30.
2.2) Goes as well as can be expected :)
3) The thargoid does not appear to be concerned with the ship launched fighter - more experiments to confirm.

Personal note:
The Beluga liner is not a great combat vessel, but my goodness it is pretty, especially with a Canonn Research logo on it:

So far, a good morning :)

I have decided that, until evidence is supplied to confirm they are aggressive and an enemy, that I shall refrain from engaging Thargoid ships. I don't believe they are the enemy and I firmly believe we are still waiting to find out who the green corrosive sneezing aliens are - as THEY seem to be the aggressors. We've yet to actually witness a Thargoid destroying anything unprovoked.

Peace to our alien buggy friends.

Maybe a PG?

The "Thargoid Non-Aggression PVE" Group?

I'm on board.

One of my Canonn colleagues was able to get as close as 150m in a fighter without aggroing the Thargoid ship. I've been holding out on getting a ship capable of carrying a fighter, this may motivate me to get one.

I'm with you, can't bring myself to kill something that isn't openly aggressive, even less so given that their ships are living creatures.

My opinion may change if they start wiping out planets, but for now, I'm playing nice with the Thargoids :)

Although they do keep refusing my gifts of Hutton mugs.. I'll keep trying :)

I think we're fighting the wrong thargoids, something doesn't seem right so far.
We've never seen a thargoid actually attack anything unless provoked or if you have their stuff on board.
A strange thing has also happened, I've gone from watching the first couple of thargoid kills on twitch with excitement, to watching more and now thinking it's a bit like seal clubbing, I've actually started siding with the thargoid and hoping it kills them lol.

With my role play hat on, I think we're being manipulated into attacking them, there's something doesn't feel right. So, until I see proof that the thargoids we are currently encountering are the ones responsible for the attacks, I'm sticking to non aggressive research :)

The Beluga is actually a pretty good research ship - good jump range (30ly) plenty of hardpoints and slots. I tossed out the passenger compartments and put in corrosive-resistant cargo racks too. It's a lot cheaper than an Anaconda, can fit fighter bays and SRV bay....

and the bridge sound system is so much more ... quality ... than in my Asp Explorer. :) The voice responses from the ship just sound that little bit better.

There will only be talk of peace when we are assured we can destroy the unknown or our enemies, that's been human condition since day one, either out of sympathy or mutually assured threat.

We're still not sure what they're capable of and what they can throw at us. Before we have that assurance, I will be launching my missiles for science...

While I agree with you that peace between humans can only be achieved if both groups have similar combat capabilities, I don't think that this can be applied to aliens.
It is however the standard reaction of humans. Humans (usually/ most) feel saver if they know that they can kill anything that might become a threat.

The Thargoids are aliens and we don't know how they react and what causes them to attack (on a large scale, not on a individual encounter basis).

A more careful approach might result in a more favorable outcome (for humanity) than pure aggression.

The problem is we don't know if being passive or non-aggressive is seen as a weakness by the Thargoids.
Not attacking the Thargoids could be the worst mistake. We simply don't know. And I don't know how we could find out.

I agree.

As far as I know if you do not bother them or steal their tech they do not act hostile.

And if you give up their stolen tech they stop attacking.

I consider this proof that the Thargoids we are now encountering are not really hostile towards us.
They do act hostile towards technology thieves, but are prepared to forgive them if they give up the stolen goods.
They will also defend themselves against murderers.

Cmdrs have been relentlessly attacking Thargoids, entering their bases, stealing their tech, destroying their tech, destroying their ships etc.

I will not initiate any hostilities, because I until I see proof that contradicts this, I strongly believe these ships are not the hostile aliens we are looking for.

I hope that FD has build in a mechanic to let these Thargoids 'remember' which cmdrs attacked them.
I would love these actions to have serious consequences in the long run.
If not, then nothing individuals do matters.

Given David Braben's passion for this subject I doubt very much that they will be overtly hostile and bent on our destruction without us first making them so. How that plays out collectively and individually remains to be seen...

I found the sound they made on being injured (that gutteral wail) quite sad, a bit like the kind of noise you'd hear when animals are killed by big game hunters.

I'm crap at PvP but until proven otherwise I'll be using my crappy pilot skills to assist any Thargoid under human attack, especially Imperial scum. To borrow an Ali phrase,

"I ain't got no quarrel with them Thargoids". ;)

*Nervously looks at cutter fitted with Anti-Xeno loadout*

I painted it black, does that help? I'm only fighting the ones who try to take humans from the wreckage.

(I usually stick to solo anyway.)

So which name would you prefer? Quisling, Judas or Ephialtes?

Hah I wouldn't be scared of me trying to kill anyone, although i might be enough to finish you off once the Thargoid has ground you down ;)

As far as we know those being scooped by Thargoids attacked them first, so they're fair game. Live by the sword, die by the sword :)

That's Mr. Quisling, Mr. Judas or Mr. Ephialtes to you! ;)

makes you wonder of all the videos ive seen I haven't noticed the thargoids to be the aggressor, do we know the green slime stuff on ships is actually from them, if so were the feds the aggressors, all questions need answering, also it takes about 20/30 mins for multiple ships to take one out, imagine if a fleet of thargoid vessels came through and they obliterated everyone in their path, because in actuality we declared war first.
