Well the wall-padding is quite practical. Imagine gravity going out, I'd rather bump my head on a pillow than a bulkhead.
About the panels ... agreed. In that picture from Moon, it looks like they've cut corners and not covered all the sides using wooden edging to get around the problem of crinkly edges ... err ... wait ... that's just what I'm doing ...
Thanks Shrek, a pleasure
This project seems to be running very slowly at the moment - the seat is taking far longer than expected. Hope people aren't getting bored ... If I can get the seat panels completed this week, I should have a full weekend to get started on the sides.
you may want to contour the seat padding before applying the outer fabric shell, and cut and sew the fabric rather than fold and tuck.
Thanks and no problem pigfumbler (love the name!)Look forwards to see what you come up with and am interested in seeing any doodles / sketches you have.

Not bored at all, just overly exciting to see more
Too bad your first plan for the angled pads didnt work out, but im sure youll find a way!
Theres been some discussion about sewing padcovers but I wonder if its not a bit difficult to get them looking good enough. Im contemplating this idea myself but if im an amateur at building, im a complete wreck at sewing!
Well, there was seven pages of drunken doodles, some really outlandish and surreal ideas. I have to recognize my weaknesses though and could never have the excellent finish or attention to detail of yours so I'm going for the 'heavily used' cobra, shields gone, 3% hull left type look
I'll start my own thread at some point as I had an enjoyable morning round a scrap yard on the Surrey/Sussex border today eventually buying a seat leon seat for my build
Thanks again TIOO and to Enride and Winterwalker for the ideas on this thread - extremely contagious ones
I really enjoyed looking at those pictures, thanks for posting! Warm wine seems to be quite high on the priority list![]()

I remember a thread somewhere on the forum, a good while back, showing how one member extended his T-Flight cable... You'll probably find it with a bit of search-fu...
@ TIOO I've been wondering about re-covering my seat, and possibly changing the padding so it's more spaceship seat, as the "padding" is pretty basic, not even as good as some office chairs - just flat foam back and seat.... anyway - to get the better contoured effect I would need to have a new seat cover sewn in sections (possibly a chance to add some colour) and I found several home based seamstresses online and in local ads.
From what I can tell the faux leather you have bought would not require special needles (like leather does) so you may be able to outsource it for a few quid.
Another possibility is finding a local college that does fashion courses and contact the tutors to see if any of the students want to try their hand... you could say it's an exercise in working out how to make a pattern to fit a new shape - something a fashion designer / maker would have to learn how to do, so you might get a freebie - or for beer money. There's possibly other ways to get the necessary help.
I'm very curious about your house after seeing that...![]()
The seat is looking exceptional - well done!
Had a random thought about it the other day: I've noticed that after I've played a session using my Saitek X52 Pro that the stick and throttle no longer sit straight on the desk. They tend to move as I use them, and both end up turned slightly inwards. In other words, with my shoulders and elbows out rather than all aligned my natural tendency is to twist them in. It's a bit like those 'natural keyboards' where they have the left-hand keys and right-hand keys in a sort of open v shape.
Have you noticed this or considered it? Your HOTAS units will be aligned dead straight with no room to move. I truly hope they remain comfortable for you!
wow, very well done dude. I want something like your seat.
Fascinating and simply amazing stuff! Big ups, have some rep Commander!
Thanks very much rootsratThere's still a long way to go but I'm happy with the results so far.
I reckon you could possibly start a successful business with products like that![]()
