I've been in Varati for a few days now, trading in the area.

As far as influence goes, I'm very curious about the charity missions. Elite wiki seems to indicate that doing these missions lowers a factions' influence, but provides no citation reference. http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Influence

All I can say is I've done a few of these as tests, and while I can't say they've lowered their influence, at least I know it's not been enough to undermining efforts to drop their influence.

Also, I don't know how much we want to be supporting Varati Ring? Should we not want to keep Pirate gang influence to as low a level as possible? I, for one, have been removing them, but they are now the #2 faction in system.

Hold your horses, I think we know who the good guys are in Varati.

But I really thought he would have made Elite by now...

Something I learnt during in a month in Timocani. Keep the Pirates sweet (Friendly or Allied) by doing High Rep - Low Influence charity mission. It allows you to blow the bejeezus out of them at your leisure without turning them Hostile. Hostile can be a pain.
Keep them low, but not out of the count, or there will be no charity missions

All charity missions seem to be High rep - Low influence. I am quite surprised by how well they work, however it is very easy to get and complete a large number of them in a short time this may be why.

This is not why I'm here, I bring important news!
Varati Labour and Varati Blue Public Limited have civil war pending, A war may soon start (could be next influence update)
If a war starts it will be for control of Bond Hub, who do we back?
Who wins this won't make a huge difference to system
Varati Blue ban a few more commodities, I think this is the only difference it will make!
My trigger finger is itching after all this charity work and influence update could be coming up (its been about 24hours since last one)
I may need an answer soon

Just scooted my Asp over to Varati and put a towell down on the best sun lounger on Thompson Dock.
Was somehow expecting bunting.
The Canonn Defence Force now has a new Viper on station.

All else being equal let's support the most permissive faction. So Labour of Varati is my vote.

I'm in Varati as well, doing some pirate hunting and going after Varati Ring. My vote is also for supporting Labour of Varati, but I haven't had many missions from them available to me.

Isn't there an "open beta/gamma" phase for CQC as well? Also, has it been confirmed that all groups will be added with 1.4? I was under the impression that 1.4 allowed them to make these changes without a client release but that the groups were going to be added in batches. So we may have to wait 2+ weeks :/

i think it was said 2 weeks closed beta, 1 week open beta or so, i will try to find it again

also i think we should support the faction that give the best benefits, so if Labour allows more commodities than Blue, we should annihilate blue.

Varati Independents Union Down 10.2%
Varati Ring Down 0.6%
Labour Of Varati Up 9.5%
Varati Blue Public Limited Up 1.3%

.
faction update was at midnight game time again today.
Factions are a lot more balanced now, going to play with 1.4 beta BGS tonight and see if there's any significant difference

Yes, beta long range. Usually around 150 Ly. Not always elite required.

They're really profitable, probably the most profitable thing you can do in the game when they are available.

They probably do need to be toned down a little bit. If beta goes live with them as they are now I'll be taking advantage

just a quick question to my scientific colleagues that already has had an UA:

Just in case I will find one at last. What does happen if you log out of the game while you are not landed in a station and you carry an UA? Does the ship destruction go on while you are offline or is it not happening meanwhile?

It stops damaging your ship. Dont worry. Its actually pretty easy to keep one safe, although the cost can up over an extented ownership.
