The Deep Space Support Array (DSSA) | A FleetComm Initiative

But the first post map doesn't show WHERE in each quadrant these ships are, it just shows that each quadrant is getting 2-3 carriers somewhere.

Those maps are temporary for the moment since most carriers don't have a final destination yet, and none of them has reached it yet.

I thought that the numbered pink crosses noted where the carriers are meant to be? In the cases where their owners have decided, in any case.

Correct.

Well that's a huge disappointment. The ONLY thing that excited me about the fleet carrier update (and ED in general these days) was the DSSA initiative, and now I find out that it's not even coming to my region... I guess I should have read the fine print, but I never anticipated such a short-sighted decision from this otherwise great initiative :(

Oh well, maybe an independent pilot will bring their private FC out here to the Sanguineous Rim. If you are such a pilot, and plan to offer UC and a shipyard, please let me know. I might even help you with your upkeep. PM me!

I wouldn't classify anything the DSSA management team has done as "short sighted." The whole point of the DSSA is DEEP space support. The DSSA team and Qohen in particular have been extraordinarily thoughtful and intentional in their planning! There's nothing stopping you or anyone else from developing and championing a near-Bubble array of Carriers.

QUACC for short ;)

Edit: Sad I could not think of a K ...

Updated the current status, I will have to postpone the start as I did not have time lately to prepare for this behemoth of a plan. As of now I hope to be ready at 15th of July, but I may shift it towards the 1st of August. I also am not quite sure on the final location yet and would be thankful to suggestions from people who know interesting places in Hieronymus Delta.
Edit: I've been also wondering in how far it makes sense to install Outfiting and Shipyard(Mining and Exploration ships/modules) , because basically you could say that anyone who will be out there will probably not need those(considering that engineering is not available on a fc). What would you say and which modules will you install?

Er, what? Over 100 carriers are deploying. Are you unable to jump to one of the many that will be near you? Are you expecting a Deep Space Support Array to deploy carriers to areas that already have existing stations? Sang Rim has Station X, Beta Site, and it looks like New Beginning station also falls inside.

The whole point is to put facilities where there aren't other facilities....

I was going to include Outfitting and Shipyard for a couple of reasons:

1) allowing passing commanders to restock lost SRVs and make changes to their ship builds if they feel the need.
2) to support the mining fleet that will accompany the Carrier:
2a) Allowing them to either bring a second ‘explorer’ ship if they wish and
2b) Swap out the Fuel scoop for either another collector limpet controller or cargo slot to speed up any mining phase.
3) Support costs are now so low that I don’t want to regret not having one is it turns out that emergent gameplay finds another use

Thats my thinking, exactly. I will include Outfitting and Shipyard for the same reasons.

Interesting aproach, and because those packages are probably the cheapest, the additional costs are not that high. Guess i will do the same then, thank you for this info.

Fun fact: the area of the Sanguineous Rim that's not covered by any stations is larger than some regions, like the Norma Arm, Temple and so on.

In hindsight, instead of relying on regions, it might have been better for the DSSA to instead say "no carriers within 3,000 ly of another carrier or a station". Simple, not subjective, fair. The problem with regions is that you might end up with carriers being not even two sectors apart but still in different regions, with only 1,800-2,200 ly between them. (Of course, whether that's too close or not is a matter of preference.)
But well, you know what they say about hindsight.

Marx, that

Well, Carriers 9 + 98 are already fairly close together for such a small region, so I would suggest mainly focusing on putting yourself somewhere on the "far edge" of the Scutum-Centaurus arm to avoid having 3 Carriers too close in that region. Just my $0.02!

The fantastic journey with the Perseus Reach expedition will soon come to an end as we have almost reached our final waypoint at Semotus Beacon. As for the returning journey I'm in no hurry at all to get back to the bubble, so my plan is to explore southwest along the outer edge, following the Outer Scutum-Centaurus Arm, The Void, Aquila's Halo and Errant Marches regions. And it would have been an awesome and new experience to meet a few fleet carriers on my way, this far out in the black!

From the ED Astro DSSA overview there seems to be a few FC's along the way and hopefully some of them has arrived when I get there! 🚀

That's actually a reasonable thought, but organizationally it was easier to just go by region. It "encouraged" people to pick areas they otherwise would have likely just picked somewhere "interesting". We already had a bunch of headaches (and a few people who quit) when we asked them to move carriers farther away from other carriers. It's hard to please everyone.
