The Empire has an image problem.

It seems self-evident that the Empire has a serious image problem. To make this even worse, the Corvette and other Federation ships are generally much more fun ships to own than the Imperial options, which serve much more stylistic or utilitarian purposes.

Spoken like a true Fed. :D Style and utility are the most important aspects of a ship.

truth be told, the Fed ships and their specialisation just feel better. The Empire needs dedicated single-roll ships too to branch out into.
Hmm, but...

...lets say we would stumble over another living alien faction then the Thargoids, and both the Feds and the Empire would each send one of their capital class ships...

...whom do you think they would trust more after that first impression? The Feds and its rather dark and martial looking Farragut-class battlecruiser...

...or the Empire and its bright, elegant and majestic Majestic-class Interdictor? ;)

Depends. If they were friendly they’d feel less threatened, yes. If they were hostile they’d probably be more inclined to invade if they saw the majestic.. 😁

The crazy thing is, the Empire does possess a crack, Tier-A Public Relations and Media Team.

And they all work for.......Aisling Duval.

If they could be turned.... :devilish:

Why are we pretending Feds only can fight in Fed ships and Imperials only in Imperial ships here?
OP wasn't roleplaying, he asked a genuine and non-rp question I believe.

Anyway, to answer OP: well at the moment, the story tends to lean "Empire=EVIL!!" but that's just at this moment. It'll roll around, as it always has. Shortly, they'll have Hudson or Winters do something dastardly and on and on it goes.

The Empire in it's old form has run it's course. The old rules of succession have failed. The Duvals are an endangered species. Maybe ALD can reforge the Empire but so far there is little sign of it.

I'm just waiting for the Alliance's turn to be the bad guys (though maybe among some xeno-friendlies they already are)

groans, then decides to not repeat AGAIN what Imperial slavery is

Seriously, what vile propaganda are they teaching the Feds in school and beyond?

just because i dislike slavery (whether in life or for RP reasons) doesn't mean i support the feds. feds allow black markets where slavery can still exist. but its the imps that flood the galaxy with owned souls.

in case it isn't clear, no human desires being owned or in debt to another. nor should they. and i shall remind any pilot found carrying slaves of any kind in game of the consequences.
