The Everspace thread

Frontier should take notes and improve ED with more AI variety which have different combat strategies, random events etc.

I'm not really a fan of space combat without any real purpose. The one thing that does look good here in Everspace is the combat and the AI in general. Its nice to have varying types of AI and their approach towards the player (human). It adds a lot to a game when AI are not just endless targets to be killed, that spawn in with no purpose whatsoever. But instead a game that gives you a reason to want to try and outwit the AI or have alternative ways to go about combat with different AI types.
Yes, FD could learn from this approach, make the combat interesting for those that enjoy it, perhaps the players that like to have a real fight on their hands, instead of credit grinding through endless 'samey' AI. As said I'm not really into much space combat, but this does look as though its a good approach. Exploration also looks much more interesting in Everspace, this is something ED lacks greatly.
.
I can't say as I'm totally sold on Everspace but it does look as though its worth a punt, so I may just do that, have a punt. ;)

Everspace?

Just read in another thread about this Kickstarter project by Rockfish Games. Looks almost suspiciously similar to ED. They have stretch goals, one of which is supporting Mac OS X AND Linux. Even the ships looks similar. Seems it doesn't try to replicate the entire galaxy and seems to focus more on combat, but they have interesting concepts like crafting your ship, which modifies its appearance. Very interesting, specially for their announced Mac OS X support. You can read about it here https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rockfishgames/everspace.

From how I understand it, the game is a sort of non linear story, that can be played through multiple times. Kinda like star fox 64.

That doesn't look like ED at all :D

Yeah, that too. Nothing suspicious here, the core of the game is fundamentally different from ED. The only thing they share is that it is a space game. Looks great for just jumping in and shooting at stuff...might also have a compelling story line. Either way, it represents yet another game for us space nerds to salivate over.

Looks like modern shiny version of Freelancer (not a bad thing TBH!), see what ED and the "other" space sim have started! :)
