The FFED3D Thread

a simple string could be a powerful weapon.
many years ago, first time in web (me&ME), after a while i stumbled occasionaly over a registry folder named "unspeakeable" (there many of them, containing different gibberish data, users usually don't have no idea what it is), curious as i am i opened it, inside names of tracks of a CD i was listening a few hours ago maybe, attached to the names (as value) was a enormous string "unspeakable", hmmm.....
returned to desktop put the CD in, wanted to replay in digital mode......
restricted! aha (this is what gracenote does to your machine)
you don't fool me a second time, i thought.

potsmoke66,
>i did.... and part 4 seems to be currupted....
I downloaded all parts and extracted with no errors. Your end. Try clearing caches?

>typefaces (or remnants of) confusing our OS's
Your problem may be both OS and filesystem related.

Here's the deal.
The archives were downloaded combined and repacked in zip format.

When I extracted the files on another computer, They had lost their character encoding - and all the text was gibberish.

Repacked in RAR and the problem disappeared.

not only winzip, it's like i said, you can have restricted characters in a zip folder, but you can't extract with names not matching the conventions.
if we would compare the codepages for us and ru we could see why, i swear.
but doesn't matter why, these guys should just don't use characters that are non standart ascii, then everything would be fine. they must know better than we which of their typefaces is nonstandart in the list. or which gets through translation to code junk. at least we haven't so many letters as them.
to me it's a bit like i would expect everybody understands swiss-german ;)
und es wür mir überhaupt ä kei problem mache ä so wiiterzschriibe aber dänn verstaht mich ja kei mensch. :D
so i have to use english if i like it or not.
fortunately, i like it :)

i will try your advice OzFalcon

Yes potsmoke, corrupted for me too:(
OzFalcon, if your tip doesn't work, could you redo your archive using your working version of FFE3D? Pretty please with sugar on top!

Cyrillic characters

The archive is not the problem.

I have tested on XP, Vista and Linux. They all extract with correct characters.

Ensure your OS has the correct language support installed.

Careful of XP's limited path length (Not sure if vista is the same).

Ok I will see if the Russian language support is installed. Thanks for the advice OzFalcon :)

Im not sure you even need Russian language installed.
ie. The XP machine I tested on had Thai language but NOT Russian.
And the Vista machine only had Australian/English.

Im guessing Vista comes with International language support by default, And XP needs it installed (With or without an additional language - im not sure).

Oz.

Promise I will upload a new FFED3D download at the end of the week. I will remove all old links/downloads to not confuse any one and I will make a 1 package download and multiple file download.

What will it have?

- Latest package from elitegames.ru (Nov 2009)
- Latest models pack (Jan 2010) plus models/skins it is missing
- Latest version of JSGME (Generic Mod Enabler)
- All mods in the enabler will have mouse-over descriptions and easy to read titles.

I will create instructions for this of course. Been testing the JSGME mod tool and very simple to figure out and works well in my testing of its functionality. I think people will like this package. I will be removing extra folders that are really not needed to hopefully bring down overall file size.

If someone wants a mod added to this package post a link to it or upload it to the download area, before this Friday.

Hi potsmoke66 been following your posts with interest. I'm maybe being thick but what is "TROUBLE" on the screenshot? I've come across plenty of trouble but not labelled as such!!

trouble

yes, actually i used buffet for jjffe glffe, but i think that was the first "hack" to frontier (save game) ever by me, just ah..., look theres or my reg. nr. ...., let's see what happens if....., it' was no big deal (even when the hex editor i used on my amiga was horrible to use, you had to edit direct to ram..... ).

but with a little experience you can make presaved games looking like that (PC FE2)

Fixed my right shift key problem

fixed this problem in win 7 64, it is a bit long winded but was worth it in the end,

1)Go to to device manager
2) open up keyboards
3) keyboards right click on the Microsoft ehome items ( repeat for each - there were 3 in my case),
4)click 'update driver software'
5)click 'browse computer for software'
6)click 'let me pick from a list of drivers'
7)select HID compliant device, (it dosent seem to work of HID compliant keyboard for some reason)
8)click next

once i had did this this to the three entries, the right shift key started working. Seemed to fix ht eright shift key issue in dosbox as well

Hope this helps
