THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

It's always been evident that some would be disappointed with the solution to the FRift mystery. I fully expected to be, but am pleasantly surprised. I think the riddle was necessary because the slow search for the solution has overly delayed FD's storyline (and bottom line, since their next major influx of funding will come with series 3, and 2.4 must come first & I think that is now galloping towards us on multitudes of insectoid legs). And is a ship a POI? I would have said not. :)

IMHO a single ship in a single system very much meets the definition of POI.

Remember the stuff about "You might have seen part of it and not recognized it for what it is"? - pretty sure I'd recognize part of a megaship.

The reason I got interested in the Rift in the first place was because it WASN"T time-constrained - we weren't being fed content in order to meet a FDev schedule.
Consequently, I'm disappointed on two levels:
That the 'mystery' was exactly what we were told it wasn't
That a solution was forced upon us in order to allow FDev to introduce more content

" It depends on who is looking .."

Playing devils advocate here, and not trying to diminish the result but would like to see what others think.

Looking at the clues presented initially regarding the discarding of veils and the rebirth imagery you could say we did at least get some hint that we were trying to resurrect something. However, solving the mystery by deciphering the continual cropping up of of constellations and the gods they were named for was certainly nebulous in the extreme if we were expected to have them in a specific order. Especially when Rebecca's name (which isn't related to the source material and not mentioned in the clues) was slipped into the final clue just so we could discard it. Does this look as though this was weighted towards CoR and CoR only?

Would it be salty to suggest this hasn't entirely played out how people had hoped? Personally I was hoping for something "alive". I do accept that dead civilizations are easier to programmed than living ones but still.

Also Zeeman has a good point.

I don't think the inclusion of Rebecca's name made it for CoR only, it did however prejudice it towards people who have read all of Drew's books (and I expect CoR intel are total Wagar nerds!) as Rebecca was the main character in his non-canon Oolite saga, and while she did appear in Reclamation as "the old woman" and has appeared in Galnet (the owner of the cobra at Tionolisa graveyard) unless you're familiar with all Drew's stuff you wouldn't know her name so it might not spring to mind when trying to solve the puzzle.

You seem a bit bitter. Did something play out different to what you expected?
Apparently everytime Braben, MB or even Drew (he did it because want to sale his goddamn book) say about "anything misterious that is already in game for long" was a complete bool.. LIE from start to this moment. And now we have a proof for that. For pretty much the first time. Or may be not the first, but this time is is not just a random thing. This is a regularity. Something you can expect. And if you can expect something. That just saying how bad it is. How lasy it is. How zero f it is. Like.. They are dying, they don't have power. They voice are exactly what you expect to hear from ppl in such situation. They clearly lost their engine PP and all of this. And what we see? A simple MEGA SHIP fully intact. They give zero F to even TRY to do something to make it good. This is their attitude to us. This is what i see.

Yeah, I don't get it. We're getting progress on a long running mystery and an in game event to go along with it. If it comes with a reminder that there's a new book coming out, who cares? It's not required reading. I mean, I guess I can understand some consternation if you spent a long time trying to solve it and then it doesn't live up to your expectations, but that's on you and your expectations, not Drew.

I think the story is well played and that counts not the mega ship itself, I didn't even bother to actually visit those in the bubble. The fact that we are having a proper story unfolding parallel in the game is a huge surplus I'm enjoying a lot - although I was only involved in finding one of the bases in Hawking's Gap.

To be fair, this isn't the final part of the mystery, that will all be revealed on the 29th and in premonition. And if Drew is smart, it won't be the end of it either. I expect he'd quite like a third novel so may leave us with something new or a cliff hanger to keep us going. After all the definition of premonition is "a strong feeling that something is about to happen, especially something unpleasant."

This happens when you have your hands full, just take a look at the change log and the complexity of the whole thing. It happens to me that I oversee stuff that are evident, only to realize later on not believing how I missed something like that.

I'll say it is kind of frustrating to have the ship there and no way to explore it. And it would make more sense if the ship were powered down.

"It" ?

A miserable human derelict that anybody could have found by chance years ago just like Jaques ?

The FR Mystery ?

I give up ...

Was it in game all this time or did it get added with the mega ships?

There is NO EXCUSE FOR THAT. They decide to move on and post on Galnet. Did someone force them to do it? NO EXCUSE THIS TIME.

I agree that things certainly changed during the search. At one time it was clear we were looking for something other than a POI. Like a second bubble. Or a dead bubble. Or dead terraformed worlds. Or big scary monsters.

One consistent thing is that we didn't need Horizons to find it.

Also, what's all the fuss about anyway? Why would who ever sent the mega ship out not want them back? Seems like an expensive waste to me.

Oh and why wasn't the old lady killed too?

First rule of building a secret bunker or hideout: Kill the builder!

If you want your secret homing beacons for your hideout to stay a secret, make sure, that the construction team newer returns home.

Sorry. Can't tell you. Anything even the worse about this "FR mYsTErY (boooo !) can be possible...now.

And I am too busy trying to join SDC right now ...joking

Elite Pilots might be missed by the Pilots Federation, as there were not many at the time. Better make them appear crazy, so nobody believes their stories. -->This might be a hint, that the Pilots Federation (as a whole) is not a part of the conspiracy.

Yeah, but the reveal is just that the Alliance/Feds/Imps are afraid of scary monsters so were creating a bunch of new Bubbles for them to run away to (on the A Ark) - leaving all us plebs sitting around waiting for the B Ark to be finished. And then being eaten.

This is why I will make the trip to it in the next few days, to see it. I can guarantee I would not shift an inch if it would be a powerless Anaconda drifting in space :)
Mega Ship - YAY!
Thanks to Drew and his story I had months of interesting gameplay searching for things so my only complain is that the thing is over.
Could it be done better? possibly, but it was plenty good enough for me so thank you everyone involved for great time and keep it coming - maybe earth like planet you can land on next time? ;)
