Guys, stop assuming Drew is some god of all things written. He is just one man who acts very cryptic to try and keep people guessing, as it's all meant to be fun and games
The event was a farce. Stop talking about it, CoR, PAC, SDC, HP, All of that garbage and do what you do best; Go deep into space and find cool stuff that might point at aliens, might point at superpowers being played, might go nowhere but hey exploring is fun.
Drew said that Salomé's message did not get out, But that's only Salomé's -- And judging by the messages in Teorge, where all the characters were headed and which 75% of them made it, Salomé couldn't possibly have anything useful for us that we didn't already know. Salomé wasn't even fully involved in the Rift story and quite frankly has nothing to do with it. She was a distraction, who claimed to know some deep dark secret. All false pretence.
Agreed on the god part. Don't get me wrong, Mr. Wagar is a decent writer, but nothing more than that. Unfortunately, he has a tendency to overhype his mysteries.
Upon further thought, I think that Harry Potter actually saved this event. Why? Because despite all the hype beforehand, the reward at the end wasn't big. Big bunch of text logs confirming what we already knew, and only added info is that Rebecca was part of the conspiracy too. Now, imagine if Salomé survived, all four NPCs reached their goals, and that would have been it. Yes, I know that Mr. Wagar said that there would have been some more, but when CMDR Enshiv found the logs beforehand, that was most of it. "Discover Freedom, Discover Truth" and all - turns out it was "Discover what you mostly already knew".
So, if Salomé wasn't killed, and killed in a rather spectacular failure, then what people would remember and talk about would be the meager payoff (compared to how much people had invested, and how the whole event was hyped), the whole "follow in our own trail or be shot" thing with the PAC, and of course the strain on the servers. Oh, and that a group (not all) of third party developers could use the pre-arranged date to successfully strong-arm FD into accepting their "suggestions" by going on strike to disrupt said event. (On the bright side, at least this should produce better APIs from Frontier.) But now, instead of any of these, what people will be talking about most will be how Harry Potter made fools of the arrogant PAC. Frankly, that's a much more interesting narrative than any of the above, hence why I said he saved it.
Oh, and I really hope that the "
recovering the mysterious escape pod" wasn't actually rescuing Salomé, because that would be cheap.
Edit: turns out it isn't, so that's good.
Also, an interesting though. The Children of Raxxla I think are the only group whose leader was said to be an NPC (although one that had a player avatar later), not a player? It's interesting that that meant that their leader could be killed. Of course, Salomé wasn't the actual leader, but this still should present some interesting role-play opportunities for them.
Well, in any case, back to looking for stuff. A shame we have no more clues about where any of the Big Unknown Things might be. Plenty of people were hoping that the event would produce more proof of "hostile aliens are coming" than a bunch of logs from Rebecca.
