THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

That's where I'm heading, but I was going to go low down. Presumably it's been done, but I'm going anyway. With work and whatnot i figure it'll be weekend after next, unless I "work from home" a bit!

Remember, whilst you're exploring the limits of the Rift, that anything that was place back in Gamma is going to be reachable with a jump range of much less that 40LY.

And it probably is. Just not on the direct RR-line. ;)

Maybe they found some tech that they think changes the balance? Maybe they figured they'd just be hunted to extinction regardless of how far they could run? I mean, why would the Thargoids come for the human bubble to begin with, unless they just wanted to be rid of humanity. There's so much space that's just the same.

Exactly. This is just really weird, to have those missions and then abandon them. Something changed since then.

So, what now?

Greetings CMDRs.
I'm about to (try to) be serious, so pay attention because it doesn't happen very often...

The first part of the Formidine Rift saga has come to an end, but there are clearly a whole lot of questions that remain unanswered. In addition, if I'm reading Drew's hints correctly (first time for everything, right?) then we, the Rifters, have the potential to create content by the act of investigation - if you look for it, they will build it, so to speak.
Right now, we're all kind of flapping around, speculating about anything and everything with no real direction and quite honestly, after following the Rift mystery for 18 months, this lack of direction really sucks.

So, I have a proposal for you all:

Let's quit the theorycrafting, tinfoiling and speculation for the moment and sit down and figure out what we actually know, and the questions we want answered. Once we have some kind of consensus ('herding cats' springs to mind) we can use that to create a new 'first page' of this thread. I say 'this thread' because I'd suggest we stick with it until the mods come along and unsticky it ;)
Additionally, lets keep the Thargoids and Guardian ruins out of this thread - leave all that stuff in the Canonn thread so we're not duplicating things.

Right then.

Stuff we know:
All the stuff from the Teorge logs and Zurara - which I'm not going to copy at this point.
Something in the Rift appeared to drive the Dynasty mission guys crazy
Salome is dead - confirmed by Drew 'Machiavelli' Wagar, so we can assume she's still alive ;)
Somebody rescued Salome from the prison convoy

Stuff we don't know:
Formidine Rift
What the Rift 'threat' is?
Is the "Rift threat" the same as the threat the Dynasty conspiracy tried to counter with the Dynasty expedition?
Is the Teorge information correct?
Who is behind the Dynasty expedition?

Salome Bio
Who is behind Salome's rescue?
Why was Salome special (1)? - Octavia and the body swap
Why was Salome special (2)? - What made her running around in the Rift a threat, where we Rifters can do it with impunity

Sirius/Wreaken/MetaDrive
What happened to Commander Falchion, and what link (if any) do they have to Metadrive? - I have no idea who this is :D
Where did all those Sirius Corp automated exploration probes go?
Why was Salome near 46 Eridani? What was she looking for in that area?

Materials
What happened to the meta alloys and tantalum?

Other stuff
We could, if we wanted, run around the Rift (and Hawking/Conflux) looking for ELWs and beacons, but I think that whilst finding them might be fun (assuming there's anything there) they're 'old news' and not going to tell us anything we don't already know.

If anyone has any other facts or questions the feel free to add them - but at this point I'm going to ignore any theories or speculation ;)

God, I'm not sure I can handle you being serious! :D
I'm stuck out at the FRift bases at present, waiting for an FD response to my bug report about the failure of an abandoned settlement data package from Alpha base, but I had a quick look at the Teorge logs today and it struck me there may be some clues there. Yes Rebecca is admitting to being a clone and that Salome is likely another which possibly answers her importance to Octavia (well, not answers, but at least hints). What I did spot was Rebecca's phrase about the conspirators' manipulating the markets- that is probably traceable, and even if not might tend to indicate Pilot Federation involvement if they control Galnet. Think it might be time to wade through Galnet post history again from this viewpoint. Might start that tomorrow as I'm at a loose end until FD respond- don't want to go 880ly back to to Base Camp if I have to go back to Alpha base and rescan the data point (if they reset the timer for me).

Is anyone else experiencing nauseating displays on the srv? The panels display seems to be tied to the ground level & they slant alarmingly (& are often unreadable) on uneven ground. On 2.2 I did have the HMD setting enabled to reduce motion sickness but can't find it under 2.3 controls-have they removed it?

- - - Updated - - -

The powers behind Dynasty might have arranged Jaques' misjump ... prompting a natural migration to a new center of human population.

Or, more likely, some other protector accomplished that. Colonia = Dynasty without the murderous conspiracy.

I thougt it was JManis? Is he part of the conspiracy?
Quick, grab him while he's asleep & play high opera until he confesses all!:D

But that doesn't align with what we have seen. Until now, we still have to witness (or read) the first deaths from those interdictions. The burning and acid sprayed Corvettes are just disabled - or so i strongly believe. The reports about the missions with the Oresrians have never really been confirmed, nor denied (although, since it's an Oolite book, i guess that theory is out of the window). But apparently the Oresrians worked with some organization (i think it was GalCop) on that Virus. It may very well be, that those are not Thargoids, but Oresrians and they are just "looking around" and assessing our capabilitys. Also, it would explain why some sections of space are just cut off - maybe it's Oresrian space.

Depends - and it also takes time. Did you also know that Edison wasn't the one who used Metall as fillament in lightbulbs and that Siemens made tantalum light bulbs by 1902? Our FSD's are just huge light bulbs! Most of the time though, a lot of details get burried by corporations, making money and getting fame...which is a shame.

I have yet to encounter my first hyperdiction and flowership. (you know what would be really cool? If we had a way to compare the wave forms on those ships and see, if those ships are the same or different ones)

But - since it was HP who found the first USS in Merope, i guess war is now inevitable [where is it]

I don't think we are past the point of no return yet. And I like a bit of science; has anyone been doing any sound analysis of the flowerhips? Is there a difference in the light patterns? Are they sending Morse??

@DrewC... as the leader, will you be issuing badges? I'd really like a badge. A real one, without the safety nonsense you get nowadays.

Is that one that's nailed in place rather than having a little pin with dinky safety end cap?

Salomé is dead.

Cheers,

Drew.
Is that a
New avatar a tribute to Terry Pratchet's Death?
And is that statement of the blindingly obvious (post-event) intended to carry any extra information??

You can't write a novel around the idea that they jumped ALL THAT WAY for the start of this event just because it fit some cryptic myth related puzzle. The characters in the story have to have a reason for being in that part of space. There must be something there, even if it isn't in game yet!

Whoever is behind the rift may have another leak.

Yep, I agree something is there and Salomè in her Clipper and luc in his cobra must have got in. I've listened to all the other theories and the non permit systems inside, plus Salomè having a stock of jumporium and Drews tendency for Greek mythology and was just pondering when fussing my cat (whose name is Ariadne) and it got me wondering if we have a jumpable labyrinth in there. But I'd like to run it with jump range to spare and ready for the Minotaur if that's what took luc out. Got enough to buy and fit a conda and do the engineering but would leave me low and I have BGS to grind currently, but I think 46E is the way in.

As to Hyford, there is one in the game. Add him to your friend list and see if he comes back to you. I have just in case we have another npc commander on the prowl. At least if nothing he/she will get a blast at seeing the message.

Lol how random [haha]

But in all seriousness now DrewC has give me an idea.

Why not put forward all of our 'might' and see if we can get FDev to make a Rifter's bobble head?

Not of its a penguin, with or without axe.
Would go for a decent decal though; maybe representing Zurara plus the squarerigger that is on the old Rifters badge.

You are probably right. I never quite understood if these guys were a separate group or a faction of the Dark Wheel? Lets presume they are a separate group. They are the guys we are looking for. :D

Well, according to the lore the Dark Wheel broke into two factions many years ago. One, under Baldy Shorthair Scarface Ryder, set up in Shinrarta Dezhra brokering missions to take tourists to Sag A*. It is likely the other faction we are looking for.

Edit: I figure there is a tourist beacon somewhere on the other faction, that tells us where Raxxla is.

Files from Meta Drive, acquired before Sirius stepped in?

Yes. Meta drive was being audited, and the things missing from the audit were the files about the "Exodus Project" and the directors ship. The new Director did some handwavium about the ship being insured and never mentioned the files. Sirius then acquired MetaDrive.
But...from being a "Really good investment" and Sirius getting interested, and it actually being the truth that MetaDrive was in deep financial trouble was not a very long time. Hence the "Market Manipulation" angle mentioned a post or two back.

They do say "Follow the money" in films. :)

Oh, and from Sirius Corp you end up with Faucon Bank. They are evidently in the same bed. I'm running small passenger missions in a dolphin, and there's a lot of this on the visitor beacons. I'm reading them all as it would not surprise me to find clues in plain sight. It's also bringing me up to speed on lore.

Well, I'm going hunting my friends. All the stuff that R mentions in the logs points to The Dark Wheel quite clearly as far as I'm concerned, even down to the phrase "a shadowy revolution"... I do not yet have access to Shinrata Dazra, but The Dark Wheel is definitely a group I want to investigate. Last I heard of CIEP was a rumoured Human/Thargoid base in Soontill, so I will be poking around there as well. I intend to find answers, or die in the attempt.

As for Falchion, first thing I thought off when I heard the name was Zerz from the Oolite saga - his ship was named the Falchion and had experimental weaponry on board.

He posted in the Canonn thread recently, seemingly confused about the reason behind his mention the message... though I'm wondering if there's going to be a mention of him in Premonition too, along with a reason why. Perhaps Drew wrote the text for it after noticing him being credited for doing something on the forum somewhere...

<rp>
Hyford is aware of the messages. He and I are friends and in contact. I'm told he has also been contacted be the CoR. However he claims to know nothing about the thing he is accused of. Now what was that thing HexEdit did?

Which is odd as that's what Andy Gill said too.

I used to live in sight of the mast, it has a special place in my memories of God's Own Country!

What do you mean 'memories'. You can't seriously be telling me you... give me a moment here I am having a lot of trouble processing this... you... ... left... Yorkshire?

Yes Rebecca is admitting to being a clone and that Salome is likely another which possibly answers her importance to Octavia

I can't really see this. If they are both clones that is a bit of a co-incidence that they would, out of six trillion people, happen to meet. And if they are it can't be of the same person/each other as they might just have noticed that maybe? Oh look you look like a old version of me? Oh look, you look like a young version of me? Oh look Salome, it's you on the video, how can that be? I don't know Hassan, must be a total co-incidence... hmmm.

EDIT: unless Rebecca edited more than just her memory, but went in for facial alterations too.

I traded Sheffield for Miami. Tell me you wouldn't :p

You're not still believing Rebecca met Salome by accident are you? I bet you think Luko is actually Italian!

Absolutely not.

1. I would not live in America if you paid me too
2. I would have to hang out with Commander Steven from AOS

However as a Yorkshireman you have just gone up in my estimation and made the Xmas card list.

I have my own theories about Luko...

I do not know if anyone has yet discovered this and its way too late at night for me to read through the threadnought.
But at 22:00 Game Time I picked up a transmission from the comms beacon in EAFOTS RA-G B11-0 3 while attempting to measure its alignment to a particular star.
They seem to have their domed side aligned to one particular system each, but that is not the point of my post since I do not think that the alignment is what triggered the transmission

I picked it up once before from one of the others in a neighboring system, but was unable to reproduce it. But at the full hour it started up again at the one I recorded from.
The transmissions appear to be the same from both beacons, but I cannot be sure of that as of now.

I am currently uploading the recording to youtube and the video should be available soon under: https://youtu.be/jmAEYQDOUbE

In the meantime here is my attempt at transscribing the transmission:

DYJEPQYUWLUDCQCKJXUEOKJDJPQYP6UNL003NEPPYLKCJQ3SKNICDCJUNCSQUESKQPNEAX110IKDUPQEJDXY

I've just picked up (or could) a passenger mission to Tionisla for my passenger to read a "Curious transmission partially decoded".

Why do I feel I'm about to meet some problems? Or is this a well known mission?

Re-edit. It's rebeccas Mk4 and I suspect you all already know about it. I'm sure I've seen you talking about Giraffes and vain queens.
