The Formidine Rift - Part 2

I'm there. My Anaconda is stripped down some, but still packs an ok punch. D6 shields, 2x large pulses, and 2x mediums.4
With things going this way, I'll head out there tomorrow with my ViperMK4. It's not much but it can still provide support fire.
If it's combat with aliens, then we need to be prepared. (I just did a 4000LY run in about 2 hours, so it won't take me long. Gimme the location and I'll get there ASAP.)

So I got my Duke rank today and decided to go exploring in my Cutter. Thinking of heading to the Formidine rift. Do you think i can get across in this build if I has FSD boosters? I would be intersted in what people think

These things are all personal taste and depending on your cash but I think you might want to squeeze some more weight out.
Ditch the extra fuel tank and limpets unless you're a fuel rat.
Upgrade your fuel scoop if possible to an 8a or at least one with a scoop rate over 1000, you can basically honk scoop and go in the time fsd cools down, always be scooping. Be prepared to have adjust your route for scoopable stars.
Take an extra afmu so you can repair your main afmu with it. Reload it using materials if necessary.
Shield boosters, I dunno exploration ships arn't build to survive attacks, better to hide or runaway.
Hull damage is the real limiter now.
Ditch the large cargo, if you're just exploring carrying cargo attracts npcs like flies on the way into the bubble. In fact don't go into the bubble go to Sothis or Ceos, for now can get there without being pestered much by npcs. Cargo , only grab something that's never been seen, the rest isn't worth the hassle.
And all those heat sinks, how long do you plan to stay out.

Hard to squeeze that up to 25 lyrs.

Do we know how many commanders are heading for the rift, and who are already there? Did you all pack a punch?

I'm near the heart and soul nebulae atm. Figured they'd be worth exploring due to drew's comment about the "core of the issue" or however it was phrased. I spent some time on the far side of the rift last year. Tried to fly out as far as I could while being roughly in the R-R line.

I'll reach the soul nebula tonight (about 1,000 LY out now). Will be crossing the rift and searching on the far side, as per the old lady's guidance in the book. Anaconda with about 36-37 LY range or something like that, with 64 tonnes of fuel on board.

Beyond that I have no idea where/what I'm looking for though, so if anyone has additional batwinged theories please share them.

I am currently heading over to the Monkey Head Nebula, and then from there I will be swinging around in different areas around there.

Not really looking in to this, but if I see something I will hit the record button and post it.

Good catch, that might be an error on my part. I couldn't find Drew's original post, most likely it was "meaning" of Kahina. I'll do a quick scan and locate it, well try to.

I think it was around page 30 or so. He mentioned it in reply to my comment about the Salome'/Ishtar/Seven Veils myth, so when you find that in my history, his will be shortly below it in the thread.

Can someone quote the post where that area was confirmed?

As far as I know, it was never really confirmed, but it hasn't been debunked yet either...

I'm behind the rift, but heading to the end of the arm as well first. Once I check that area out, I'll head back to the rift and enter it from behind.

It has'nt been confirmed, but it MUST be generally correct. There are no other areas that provide ANY navigational hazard on or near the RR line until you reach the edge of the galaxy.
Whether it is ALL of the area mark on Erimus's map, or only 1/4 of it is unknown, but it is rather moot as we are supposed to cross it, not search within it (probably)
If you asked Drew to mark the Rift on a Gal Map 3 times, I doubt very strongly he would be able to get a level of accuracy less than 1 Kylie, its just a region, not a specific set of stars.

I think it must be something to find along the borders of Bovomit sector. The Requires empty line could mean that you need to bring something with you from the bubble, an UA, some rare goods, or you need to go there in a specific ship (imperial clipper) or you have to find something as a key in the systems around that sector..

I passed along these borders last November and sadly didn't find anything. Be careful plotting routes along Y=0, there's the universal thin layer of unscoopable stars.

But Bovomit is over 18 degrees off the RR Line, which on the Galactic scale is MASSIVE. If you were to travel to Bovomit, you would not go anywhere near the Formindine rift, let alone have to cross it.

I dont doubt that Bovomit could be linked in the Story, but as for finding the "thing", it is an very long shot. I might even say that the clues were pointless if that IS the place.

No navigational hazard for us, for sure. But how old was the old woman who first saw it, and what ship was she flying?

130 sirius inc commanders are prepping to head out at various times in coming weeks, we will form a vanguard of some serious searching out there, updates will be periodically updated over time, more are welcome to join us if they like

I was certain I had read a post where Drew complimented Erimus on his map and agreed that was the area.. Just looked for it and couldn't locate it. It is 4 am tho so I may still be half asleep -.-

Found what I was looking for, but he never confirmed or denied it. He posted this on the galactic mapping thread;
"This is an excellent project, keep it up Commanders. As for the Formidine Rift, keep an eye on the Galnet feeds. The truth is... ahem... out there.

Cheers,

Drew."

Cool. Would appreciate it if you put a link to my Formidine spread sheet (in sig) in the references
Just now took a look at your spreadsheet, Dommarraa... Nice job! I especially like the POI section. Will be nice to tag points of interest along the line.

Cheers. Leave a comment on anything you would like added, either new POI, or just functionality that you would like to see
