The Formidine Rift - Part 2

I was after someone reliable, but you will have to do ;)
Will be nice to have this one put to bed

So, I don't mean to derail any trains of thought here, but I just finished reading Reclamation and I think there may actually be some ambiguity as to the ownership of the Seven Veils, stemming from these lines in the epilogue of Reclamation:

'Hassan?'
'Told you I'd got a plan.'
'No ... this your ship? I mean ... you serious? This ...'
'She's quite a sight isn't she? An Imperial Clipper.'
'But how did you afford ...'
'Let's just say somebody owed me a ship.'

Up until now I assumed that the Seven Veils was Kahina's ship, partly because any GalNet article referencing it refers to it as her ship. So, every time she showed up somewhere in GalNet with the Seven Veils, where was Hassan? Was he in her Asp during that period and they traded out when they hit the road, or was he traveling with her, unseen by the media? If so, then what could he have been doing behind the scenes leading up to their departure?

When the Rolls rolls up who'd assume it's owned by the chauffeur?

According to the C.o.R. story, which in fact is a foundation myth like the nativity, she has been chosen/hired/anointed to function as symbol/focus/leader/spokesmodel as a spoke of that unseen power the Dark Wheel. Or so she/we have been lead to believe. While all eyes are on her like a magician she's the distraction while the lovely assistants do all the magic and work.

Children of Raxxla is the epilogue to the epilogue in Reclaimation and is to be considered canon too.

On the other hand maybe it really is her ship. Quite often one's servants and staff begin to think and act that one's gracious generosity of allowing such close proximity entitles them to make use of one as if they were one's self. It inevitably ends with their execution, so sad having become so fond of them.
The recently ennobled often have this problem of being uncomfortable with staff and feel the need to befriend them, yet it is this very act that creates the problem. Plebs.

I don't think this is the case with Hassan, it's a genuine friendship, for now.

Hey, thanks for doing this! Very interesting, but not the GalNet entries that I was remembering...

It looks like the one I was thinking of ("Wierd science in the old worlds") from 17th April 3301 has been subsequently redacted, but there are still links to it here, here and here.

I have no idea if this is actually a story-related breadcrumb in GalNet, or just some fluff put in to add some intrigue (think Generation Ships...). Likewise, Drew's comment of CMDRs may wish to consider the, ahem, core of the problem. was made a few days before this GalNet post hit. Correlated, or tinfoil?
. Very nice! I had forgotten about that post :)

I should be back tonight. Got about 800-1000 or so systems from in the rift. Not sure where to dump though? Dark Wheel or CoR stations?

Illuminati versus Jihadists?

Give them all the finger!

Jaques Station!

Not aligned to any faction or power. 100% not interested in galactic domination. At the very worst would count as being in the independent ranks, but so independent he's independent from the independents. He's the only minor faction at his station, guarantee's 100% political stability. When the going gets tough he gets going, somewhere else. It's a liferaft of humanity in a chaotic violent galaxy.

Run by a cyborg who couldn't possibly be in league with rogue AI's?????
No can't be it's a happy place.

Lol indeed, and to the point so far data has been sold to nearly every major player thus far, and nothing has become of it.

Can anyone tell me if the "Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light" line has been explored with any muster as yet?

Keep thinking about the wolfs and bright B's and O's dotted around the bottom and top of the rift. Some even have both black hole and wolf. (Few for quick reference below) Most of them prolly couldnt be reached without at least a 25% boost tho I guess Theres one 2.6k away from me on the other side that has a bright wolf and a blackhole, but I lost the bit of paper with it on and now cant find it on the map, grr.

Been visiting a few of those, WR, BH, O*, nothing unusual.

Ah thankyou! Ive been looking for the complete thing for the last 2 hours

Have you tried anything funky, like flying away from the star a few thousand ticks or looking at the sun though a BH?
Prolly too covered with tinfoil things like that tho Im starting to think, I found nowt so far doing it

These seem to be a few months before I started playing... but when was the first UA discovered again? I'm wondering if the article was relating to these.

It's possible that's a clue. If so it means that nearly 3 years ago Drew intended to use that line at some point so FDEV could carefully place whatever IT is in the right spot.

Pretending it is a clue for a moment it could, in conjunction with 'Watch your Six' mean something along the lines of:

  • Look back at the Soul nebula
  • Arrange it so it's just setting below the plane of the galaxy
  • Now turn around and look for a very bright object.

I'm skeptical because it raises the question, Why not release that quote a year ago when this first started, why now.

Personally I think it's more allegorical in nature, basically along the lines of the poem's original intent which was more or less:

Searching for the sake of searching is an award in itself.
Searching and finding can raise one to the heavens and ensure your place in history.

Originally the poem was about a teacher explaining to his pupil why bother with science (astronomy in this case).

Thats something Ive been wondering for a while now, and Im sure plenty of others have too.
Is this just the classic holy grail, no actual grail, its all about the journey and discovery of self etc

Drew (and FD at some level) have been quite clear there is an "IT" to find. Whether we'll be happy we found it (alient civilization) or not (oh look it's a data cache worth $1M credits) is a different story. I'm optimistic it will trigger a substantial latent story arc but who knows.

Maybe they wont tell us anything.

Hows this, simply collate what gets turned in where and with whom. Maybe there's secret easter egg systems involved, maybe its raw numbers, maybe areas or regions maybe some other criteria but tell no one anything. Just a quiet background decision that *this* is the name or faction that'll be carrying this bit of plot line forward, first visible in an unremarkable galnet post and let the ball roll from there. "The Ducks of Dingdum" have announced cancellation of their Summer Solstice Festival due to rain."

Jaques is no doubt ing in the wind but appeals as a Rage Against the Machine thing.

I hope none of it has anything to do with or is dependent on who gets raised to a power.

No :D

The idea of using an SRV to scan data packs is certainly interesting but it does fly in the face of the assertion that you don't need Horizons.

Admittedly there may be a bit of a semantic distinction between:
  • Don't need Horizons to see whatever IT is if you randomly stumble upon it
  • Don't need Horizons to resolve clues as to whatever IT is.

It's absolutely worth following up in terms of information and because it may prove interesting for other mysteries but the above coupled with the fact that FD is changing those things from randomly appearing out to 5KLY or so to much closer to the bubble make me feel it's a dead end with respect to the Rift itself.

Whilst I am Rifting, it was just a general question, and not related to the FR mystery hunt per se, but mea culpa- thought I'd posted the question on the UA thread. It was one of those afternoons!

Ok Rifters - I am thinking there are several "threads" of clues going on... I am seeing possible secret science stations near Lave, a lost generation ship outside of Tianve... To be honest, I think most of the "eggs" are in the populated worlds but... Looking at the FFE Journals (specifically the KIDNAP 1-4) and really Just to make Dom happy - you might try looking for a Space Whale between the Bubble Nebula and the Heart Nebulae ... something to do with french :)

Drew said whether its found depends on who goes looking. Having heard the relevant excerpt from the audiobook, there seemed to be an emphasis on Elite rank. Maybe whatever it is will only reveal itself to someone who has achieved Elite rank... Just a thought...

Hopefully it doesnt require triple Elite...
