The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Well, worse than the Thargoids can only mean humans. Makes sense really, I would look for a station, outpost, asteroid station, or other signs of inhabitants such as Population > 0. Would be easy to exclude that theory by spending some time in the GalMap.

This is what I was thinking too - or, by encountering Thargoids again, gaining the knowledge that the Thargoids were/are in fact friendly, and we started all the earlier wars, and are the evil duplicitous genocidal warmongers. Maybe the core of the problem is finding the true cause of the human-Thargoid warfare (the problem). Which probably means an INRA base.

Or it could be just a really, really, really nasty alien race we have not encountered yet.

Oh, and we discovered the other day that the Galmap does not always show you all the system information until you actually visit a system, in some cases.

You know, thinking back on it, I don't think that was a chance encounter. There was the bit about the doctor that looked familiar to her but she couldn't pin where she knew him from, and he just happened put her next to the old lady, who just happened to start talking about the Formidine Rift 30 seconds into their conversation...

The lady obviously has a bone to pick about the Formidine Rift and she is described as having a fierce intelligence in her eyes. She wanted Kahina to hear this bit and also get the itch to go exploring... I don't think we've heard the last of the old lady.

I'm still curious about what she lost. Maybe she's simply referring to her 'lost memory'.

(It has been surmised, that if she is 'a version' of Rebecca Tyley/Weston, it was her family that she lost at the hands of assassins...)

And if she is, is the vaguely familiar doctor (who also appears in other novels) her time-travelling partner (see Oolite novellas and Raxxla storyline), continually checking in to take care of her and keep an eye on things?

Back on the Rift I'm currently at waypoint 7 on the Hiesenberg Crossing which is going very well. There may be another route out from here via the badlands which offer a shortcut across several hundred lightyears if you can face their ugly selves, but for the moment I'm focusing on tracing it all out on EDSM.

So I'm in Shinrarta trying to do missions (when they very rarely come up) for the Dark Wheel, trying to get my influence up with them, in the vain hope that it might become important later on, and before the 2.1 changes make it even harder to grind influence. I notice a recent local news article, that talks about Wolfe Reach as a Dark Wheel planetary port, and how an economic boom is occurring there. Great, I think, there must be more Dark Wheel missions there! Kewl! So of I go, fly over there, only to discover it is a automated mining outpost with no landing pads. Sigh. How to break immersion through procedural generation 101. Again.

Thx to all who accepted my friends invite [yesnod]
Can't get myself leaving the NGC 7822 Nebula - too exciting, great nebula, +40 O-stars that shine from the distance and nearly every system has a black hole, some even up to three ! Nice stop.

See you when you get out here. That's a great visual marker, once those start resolving I know I'm either getting close to home or leaving it far behind.

The population issue is the thing that makes me feel we won't find a working station (unfortunately). I assume someone has checked for that already, and that they would not find anything, it fits in the 'far too easy' category

\begin{wild speculation}

My apologies if this is an old hat -- I have not found it discussed here yet.

It has been said that finding "it" depends on who goes looking, as well as that commanders might want to consider the "core" of the problem. So what if only those commanders can find "it", who have "considered the core of the problem", whatever that means? A naive interpretation could be "only pilots in a ship from Core Dynamics can find it". Anybody out there in an Eagle or a FAS?

You know what they say about assume :)
Agree on the "far too easy" category. I'm intrigued by the system description behaviour. This could also extend to the population parameter, i.e. you have to visit the system for it to 'pop' up.
Speaking of things that have been tried, do we have a wiki like the UA hunt for theories, experiments, things that have been investigated, and such?
For instance, do we have confirmation of the Formidine Rift location (and where is it exactly)?

like it only reveals itself once its been found ( or perhaps a cluster of systems leading u to the real find) but a few decoys along the way
