The FSS should only have been used for signal sources.

I'm still hopeful.that FDev will reconsider and implement some form of compromise.

I don't think they will without metrics, reddit or steam reviews showing a tangible negative impact.

Frontier are a large developer, and even if the most influential individual wanted to action its likely not that straight forward. The fact that it got to us represents (however misguided) frontiers offering as they best they are capable of.

Still, id love to be proven wrong. 2 small changes could do it.. add or change the filter on what is shown in the fss to be signal sources and aliens. Always populate the nav panel on honk. Do whatever they feel best with the system map on honk..

Frontier are a company with business process and budgets... its not a passion project of an indie developer.. as much as it would be nice if it was.

The interesting question also is.. what criteria do frontier use to formally raise a community issue internally? Could be anything really. I also get the impression that many of us are too polite that frontier can know we'll just go away. You'll have to get reddit involved, and apparently the cult over there is all over it because its easy mode so.. We'll have to wait and see what the average decides.

Frontier is not large. They have a handful of games under their belt and when I bring them up in normal conversation with people I get a "who?" as a reply. Ontop of having a relatively small studio they are spread across TOO many projects. Jurassic World, Planet Coaster, Elite Dangerous... despite they were apparently known for Elite from the age old tape game days which pre-date when I was born...

They got too wrapped up in what they thought was good that they ironically (just like in Jurassic Park) never thought if they should. Stripping choice from explorers is never a good idea. Probes are fine for finding unique stuff on planets but dang, this update bites and having still no word from Frontier on the issue shows they might be tone-deaf like Activision, Blizzard, EA, etc... the only difference is they don't have the financial backing to pull that trick off.

I'm hopeful, but with low expectations.

FDev have changed mechanics based on community feedback, albeit extremely slowly and incrementally - I'm thinking Engineers here - but we've never been in a position where they've thrown away a significant piece of functionality, so there's no precedent for how they'll respond to requests to restore it.

They've been noticeably absent from all the threads on this subject, but openness isn't their strongest suit, so there's probably nothing to read into that.

It'll come down to what the metrics say, unless we manage to bump a thread to 100 pages, which is their usual threshold for commenting. I'd just like a response, really, even if it's only "lol, sux to be you" ;)
