The FSS should only have been used for signal sources.

And the codex, galnet, powerplay etc screens. It is a completely made-up argument.

I don't really use these things while flying my ships around exploring. Not sure how you get on with it. Some people watch Netflix in 330X still apparently. Not really my cup of tea either.

This is more my mode of gameplay...

But those are screens with info that i can use in normal space, or in srv, or even at stations. To use the fss i have to be in super cruise, where i use it to actually do something, its not an info screen that i can use in my spare time or when my ship is in safety. If it is like a terminal, then a crew member can use it when on board? I genuinelly dont know.

I've done 7+ hours gold rushing with the new exploration system, both feet in all the way. Thoughout that experience it somehow made so much sense.. im completely baffled why the new exploration didn't turn out like this:

- Honk as usual.
- Probe mapping replacing detailed surface scanning + discovery claims.
- Buffed rewards as current.

This experience is what you do for the gold rush.. and it makes perfect sense. It feels organic to elite, its an upgrade from what we had before and is satisfying and interesting.

How the FSS ever come into being i can't imagine. Yes, it would be perfect for signal sources in system... and if it was placed as a new thing just for USS's it too sounds like it would be perfect. Forcing the FSS on exploration has achieved a double negative and wounds EVERYONE:

- It simply trolls and shuts down traveler exploration (i say this lightly because i personally hate traveling exploration and would never do it.. im sure its serious to those effected).
- It creates a gut sinking easy god mode for discovery that didn't use to be there.. robbing the basis from any further exploration in the system.

All it achieves is takes the legs out of two major exploration styles... i still don't get it.

I disagree totally.

Exploration finally feels like space exploration instead of a trucker's honk fest.

The problem is that you have gotten used to the non existent gameplay that was called exploring.
Where there was no gameplay mechanic before, there now is. Finally.

It does seem tailor-made for multicrew exploration, doesn't it? Maybe multicrewing it could be made to let the pilot fly at normal speeds in supercrusie (if it's not a technical limitation).

IT WAS NEVER A ZERO SUM GAME THOUGH.
BOTH CAN EXIST IN PARALLEL.
THEY ADDED ALL THE NEW MINING TOOLS WITHOUT REMOVING SURFACE LASER MINING.

Let's have a mini-poll here. How many believe that mining lasers were in any way as powerful as the god-honk was in their usage class?

<crickets>

Seriously, it's easy enough to add layers to a basic and weak tool with a minimum of fuss. The god honk is NOT in that category. Any change was bound to be complicated. Which is probably why FD got rid of it - the ADS doesn't leave enough space for anything new to come in. If present the god-honk would still overpowered any new addition to the mechanic.

And... how does the new system prevent that?

I'm genuinely confused by your intent there.

Dodging around stars while fuel scooping is also a bit of fun. I will be forgoing using the FSS while out exploring in general, attempting to make the most of it. Won't mind parking my ship on occasion to have a look at it from time to time though. We'll see how far that gets me. Only 35K Ly roundabout on my current trek before making it back for DW2.

The more apt question is: How does that kind of gameplay prevent you from using the FSS and undermined its relevance in the game?

Except you again presented it as some kind of either/or between the FSS and your imagined "god-honk", when nobody was ever asking for the ADS reveal ability. Suggesting that they are, and then attacking that, instead of their arguments, is a strawmanning tactic most commonly used by religious apologists, hence the popular use of terms like "evangelist" to describe those who use it as part of their arguments.
.
I have not stated anything for or against either side in this thread. I only used your style of describing one side of the religious fight here, applied to the other side. I did nothing else than trying to show you how your semantics look to an outsider. Not even necessarily one of the "other side", although some people seem to see this as a "for or against us" topic, just somebody not firmly in your camp.
.
Alas. Your comment quite clearly paints me as somebody who is against you and thus is setting up and fighting strawmen to do so. So again, I see no reason to actually comment on the topic of this thread. It wouldn't lead to any results. I am merely commenting the kind of "discussion" we have here.
.

Everything gets away by "technical limitation" around here. Not funny anymore.

What? How is any of that relevant to what appears to be a screenshot of you flying upside-down in a canyon?

I'm not arguing with you here, I'm genuinely confused as to what you're trying to communicate. How is either ADS honking or the FSS related to you flying your "fully combat-loaded Vulture" in canyons?

Again, not trying to argue with you - I'm trying to understand you.

Doesn't really change the fact that technical limitations genuinely exist through, does it?

I don't know what the reason for the speed limitation is, I've posted elsewhere that I don't like it and think it should go. But there's no harm in acknowledging that sometimes what I want might just not be feasible.

Sadly the ship is stripped down to a husk of its former glory for the time being – jump range needed to make it to Beagle Point and back.

I was responding to a post about being taken out of the cockpit to use these various UIs. I'd rather not while I'm out exploring in general, nor parking for that matter, the occasional screenshot aside.

After DW2 I may give up the ghost for a "proper" space cow exploration ship that's more suited to parking in supercruise, assuming Frontier don't implement some kind of suitable workaround for my degenerate ilk by then. We'll see. :D

Being serious for just a sec: there is harm in it, and that is why his mentality exists in the first place. Lets start with the following axioma:

1) I want my perfect dream game.
2) Elite: Dangerous is not my perfect dream game.

Now we can imagine two possible explanations for the latter:
1) The FD devs are stupid, or lazy, or indifferent or some such.
2) Getting my dream game is (currently or permanently) impossible.

Which of the two explanations gives me the most hope for the future? This is an interesting psychological phenomenon that helps explain why people in general feel the need to attribute singlular and simple blame for complex things people dont like. Because it offers the hope that if that person goes away whatever we want will finally happen. If only this lead dev, or that president, or this teacher, or that boss would be replaced, then things would finally work out. It gives me something to focus on, maybe even to attempt.

So don't tell me there are technical limitations. Tell me Sandro is a poopypants. I can do nothing about the former, but we can do something about the latter...

Jump into system
Honk
Open FSS (instead of system map)
Waves will indicate presence of ELW/WW etc
Choose to investigate further or move on

Literally takes the same number of button presses as before with the added bonus you can get equivalent of a DSS scan without having to travel at all

Except now I'm scanning more stuff then ever (not cherry picking) and thus finding even more interesting things (not credits) worth going and actually checking out (exploring).

If you've not tried it yet, I have a feeling you might like the Krait Phantom. My explorer build includes mil-spec hull, full weapons (cannons and shard cannons), and 505mj of biweave shielding, all with keeping 40+ ly jump.

That's really very true, and I think highlights an interesting personality, or perhaps just perspective, divide between people that seems to be at the root of a lot of conflict, from the forums to politically, and more.

The people you describe totally exist, but I've always been almost the exact opposite: There's always gonna be "poopypants" people standing in the way of what I want, can't avoid it. That's just humans. Give me a technical limitation. That's something I can work with, work around, hack, adapt, circumvent, overcome with better tech... Plenty of good options there.

Those who see people as the obstacle tend to make things... well, anti-people.

I gutted my MK2, added a bit more engineering to sensors, and I'm pushing 59ly (with the +10 from the Guardian). 550ms thereabouts of top speed, nice little nimble ship. My fav.

Clearly the second option is preferable. Would it be the first, we'd never get improvements. Considering the size and scope of the patch just yesterday, I dare to say that this is not true.
.
For the second option, it's clearly the better one. It just means that some things are still not in place. Perhaps the game would just need more memory or better CPU to do things you wanted. Even if your personal high-end PC would be sufficient, the lemons of other customers can not. And FD has to cater for all customers.
.
But FD also has shown that they are willing to step things up. Just look at the poor MAC players. When apple decided not to support new technology on the MAC, which FD considered essential for the next step of the game, the MAC lost out. The same is true for those, who still had 32 bit operating systems. They had to upgrade or leave the game.
.
So it would not surprise me if FD at some time decides that 97.2% of their players have computers sufficient for the next step of development. So they'd adjust system requirements. Those who'd be on the lowest tier then might have to exchange their lemons for something slightly better or loose out.
.
So clearly option two holds more hope for the future and improvement of the game. If I was you, I'd absolutely stick to that one.
