The following are pictures from the new planetary tech in update 6, taken at different orbit altitudes in various planets. All in Ultra+ at 3440x1440 and regular SS 1.0.

depends what your trying to achieve with it. i'm on a low end gfx card (gtx 1060) ,if your looking to getting the impressive shots you might need the RTX version of graphics cards.me personally i not really interested in bolt on raytracing on my cards and paying overpriced for it.
Got a 1060 too. Just turn it up to Ultra (w/o FSR of course) for the five seconds you need to get the (static) screenshot, doesn't matter if you get <10 FPS.
for exploration and photography it's works.
repeated patterns exist in the distance, but not on the surface of the planet, I have not found them even looking for them.
there are still some small graphic errors (such as floating objects, or lighting contrast problems) and you can find the same stones in different locations, but they do not break the game.
my opinion
It does work nice enough, though like in Horizons some planets are just dull and produce boring images, and some are nice. For me with RTX2060 it runs well enough in 1080p
