yeahhh love it :) But don't stay on the past... Elite don't means for me the "past" but the future.... I'm sure that technically, Elite will be amazing !

Unlike all these old relic of joysticks, I've just bought myself a brand spanking new one with all the whistles on it, but the thing is a lot of people are going to be using these joysticks of the past to play Elite of the future. So, all in all, relevant. ;)

Good stuff. The Saitek keymapping software is really good - you can make up multiple profiles for any particular game, and then assign any key combination to any button on the stick. You can also assign macros, and there's a shift, giving you double the assignable buttons (3 modes, but with shift for dual assignment on each control).

Note that it's best to REMOVE all button assignments from inside a game first to avoid conflicts. Then start with an empty profile, assign buttons in the game as necessary, then assign more buttons as keystrokes.

It can get very confusing if you just jump in and find out that you have a button mapped to both a function (in the game) and a keystroke (in the profile).

LOMAC:FC was always bad for that!

Ahhh Thanks for the heads-up Slopey! I've already downloaded the manuals and the latest drivers and the stick hasn't even been delivered yet  ... I'll have some learning curve with that I guess.

I'm using Logitechs G940. As already mentionned, a HOTAS is probably an overkill, but it would still be nice if it got supported. There are two things that would need to be considered to properly support the G940:

  • it registers as 3 devices, so ED would need to be able to support a multi device setup
  • Force Feedback (pleease!)

Are those 3 devices being detected as different axes by the OS? If so, and the game support analogue controls for movement and throttle I can't see why not.

Ah with all those pictures i had to make a picture of my selection.

The saitec Cyborg Evo hasen't seen much aktion lately think the last game it was extenly used was starlancer but could remember it wrong...
Also seen some Mechwarrior fights.

The customaziation of the Cyborg is quite nice, and the same settings possible for lefty's.

Yea Phone camera is crappy ;/

Also notice my Cherrykeyboard. Tried some of the fancy ones but nothing beats the keystroke of the good old cherry's

Bu most of my gaming flight carrer (Tie fighter/x-wing/ Wing commander) I used the Gravis analog Joystick.
Sadly it died oneday after Years and years of good service (monemt of silence)

This is a great thread, thanks all I was looking for some help choosing a good stick for E: D.

On the subject of the EVA expansion however, how would people feel about switching control methods? I would prefer keyboard and mouse for FPS, but I really want a joystick for ship control. I think I may need a bigger desk

What a blast from the past this thread is, I'd even had forgot I had a Quickshot until I saw a pic in here of one of them.

As for the Competition Pro's, I couldn't get with them, was it just me, but I found the buttons used to stick on them & I tried a few as well, maybe as a young whipper snapper, I was too hard on the buttons.

In the 80's I did find a excellent replacement to the Competition Pro, a sturdy little blighter with good buttons, the Zipstick:

Thats exactly what I used back in the day but since I will be running ED on a Macbook Pro 17" I will need to look into compatible joysticks.
I can use a Xbox controller but I suspect it wont be perfect for this game.

I have the Thrustmaster Warthog, Saitek Combat Pro Pedals and the TrackIR IV (I believe).

Never got around to getting my simpit built but I can see it's value...

I just hope that ED will have proper controller support to where it will detect and allow direct mapping of functions instead of the choose and move method.

I am still struggling with my pedals and oolite just to try and get back in the grove for dogfighting.

Thing about Thrustmaster... They are VERY sensitive to movement and are precise. To much over correcting on my part leaves to many missed shots. sigh.

Ok I've ordered a couple Speedlink Joysticks. Excellent thanks for the tip everyone!

Oh I also have that C64 Quickshot as well as the Quickshot II and yes they are still working. In fact ALL my my joysticks are still operatoinal.

I have a big collection of variant Atari 2600's so I have lots of spares there too. :)

So I got my first joystick a couple of days ago (a thrustmaster t.16000m), and I'm liking it so far.
Not much of a fan of the extra buttons, they don't really feel sturdy or anything. The stick itself, and the buttons on it, however. Amazing. Very accurate, very responsive. The trigger feels right and the stick fits my hand perfectly.
Might get a seperate throttle unit later, but I'll have to think on that some more.

Pah! The SixAxiS is far superior to that hunk of junk!

I just hope FD plan on supporting the use of both console controllers and not make us buy those rip off copies of the SixAxiS with their horrible configuration menus!

I own both a ps3 and a 360, over the past 4 years I have brought 4 new PS3 controllers because at some point one of the buttons decides to pack up, the Xbox controller on the other hand, I haven’t had to by a new one at all, well that’s a lie as I brought an extra one to use on the PC, personally I like the feel of the SixAxiS but for reliability I would have to go with the 360 controller. Just a shame the the 360 console isn’t as reliable as its controllers..
