It's called "economy of scale" and that's perfectly fine. What amounts to "alot" and "a little" is subjective based on subjective costs and the economy of the individual player, that's normal.

No. Even if you could find a quote where I actually did...
Which is true, but also upended by FCs (which is not everyone granted). If anything mining and combat share similarities in that a fair amount is RNG (hotspots / POIs etc) while trading is easier to plan since you can know what economy there is ahead of time, what BGS state modifiers there are, what the likely profit is etc.

I think "good deals" starts at OVER 100 mil/hour...
Painite was a VERY good deal. Now, I think is just ONE of the ""good deals", if you get lucky enough to sell at a decent price...
And for sure are MANY other better "good deals" than Painite now, a lot more... Painite is a bit of a dead horse, atm.

keep in mind people are operating on averages, not looking for the max prices. eddb.io is showing the market crashed yesterday, it's bouncing back a bit, up to 250k now, so it remains to be seen what number it will settle out at.Only 40 mil / hour means you need to search better deals

I really cant be bothered with the conversation again. Ive posted here on this forum for years and my position on Frontier making the game easier and watering down the experiance has not changed and this discussion keeps happening and its the same arguments over and over again (ive lost count of how many times ive been here). I get where you're coming from and I do agree, I get it, I really do. But I also recognize that Fdev just doesn't have either the capability nor inclination to really balance things because their gameplay loops for their game are simplistic, now there isn't anything wrong with simple game mechanics, but they turn around and complain why their game doesn't have depth.
And it's been the experience that every time Fdev tries to fiddle around with their economy, they either break it or seriously screw it up, they want to control but then they want unpredictability, they want to give players the ability to "forge their own way" then they want us to "color inside the lines". They can't have it both ways, no matter what design they come up with, the player base will come up with some way to game it to maximize profits. It's the cat and mouse game of player vs developer, it is what it is.
Still a mile away for what the devs trumpeted to be "max price" - 600k. I never saw more than 420k, and even that was just for some minutes in depressing low quantities...
Probably will stabilize at a max of 450, once a week, and an average of 250 on most markets ( to make a similar comparative, the old 1.092 000 you could get once or twice / week before , will be now +- 450k, and the old 792, stable and almost any day of the week, will be some 200-225k ...)

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too, sadly. When I saw "Max Price" I immediately read that as boom-time prices in certain systems IF you're lucky. But depressingly, I think you're numbers might be closer, that boom times will be 450 with 250 being the average.
I'm going to take another poster's suggestion and modify my build to try and cram another collector to up the number of limpets to 8 from 6 and see if that increases my rate per hour.
I used to keep INARA on my second monitor, you guess why... I run a small shop of computer repairs, and when I am not working, I am surfing & having some fun in Elite - and from what I watched since the update, this is the direction... I even feel those "average" 250 k will need a solid dose of luck... in the way that market will still be in the need of what you bring, and not closed...
Reason why I put a stop to mining.... too much volatility now, and no means to get a decent prediction...
In my experience, Inara has been inaccurate, maybe because I'm playing on console, not sure. But Inara has been inaccurate while eddb.io is generally on the money, no pun intended.

It's certainly more interesting to have 6 or 8 minertals on the catch list and I don't know if it's my imagination but payouts on the osmium / samarium missions seem higher?

Cannot say that.... just used the data. from eddb, and "fooled" the same... got there to buy Tritium but was far more expensive than what eddb told me... and the info was only 7 minutes old.... on the same time, Inara was way closer to the price.

Seen some very weird behavior in refinery systems that would usually sell tritium for 4k/t. Seen prices going up a 10 fold after jumping my carrier in. Haven't noticed a real pattern yet, as I'm busy doing other things, but something seems off
