I did some searching independently before reading past the first post in this thread and my conclusion/theory (not a geologist) is that these formations are rocks pushing through the ice from below so:
  • More rock/content increases the area on the planet this can happen.
  • If the gravity is too low you don't get the walls
  • Having walls with less stuff inside means the things inside them eroded away?
  • Atmosphere probably helps by reducing meteor craters that would mess up the formations otherwise.
I've found a few of those near the bubble, but nothing with higher than 2-3km walls with stuff inside so it doesn't look as impressive. Will try to narrow it down more if possible.

Nice deductions! I still need to come back to the lists of similar worlds here and finish checking them off. The two that were flagged as being possibles both suffer from the thing of the walls not really being high enough in relation to all the stuff inside. It does seem like Mardante really find something quite special and a bit of an outlier here with Ice Mordor. The search for something close to home continues.

I did some more looking for ice-mordor-at-home today and got the first good hit of my search so far (VVO 19 A4)

The walls look a bit smoother and broken in places than the original, but I only did a brief scan of the light side to see if it had those structures and these might not be the best ones on the planet. It might have to do with my graphics settings too.

The more filled in versions of these I found on KELT-2A 3a and LTT 11383 11i previously looked sharper though:

Just 77ly from Sol! Nice - need to go take a look myself sometime soon.

I think the next level of this would be to find a port/settlement inside one of those structures, there's probably plenty of populated systems with these kinds of features and they might extend to rocky worlds with high ice content too.

It probably won't happen though because there seem to be restrictions to settlement spawning in Odyssey.
