The New Content Drought

I'm not seeing the content drought.

Did we run out of systems to colonize? Did Powerplay reach a final state (everything Stronghold or everything uncontrolled)? BGS I agree is in a questionable state due to the ticks not behaving properly anymore, but it makes me wonder if the unannounced new feature is going to be a BGS 2.0.

We got a roadmap for the year and so far it's following the schedule. As a bonus we've seen the return of community goals.

Take a step or 3 back to 2019. When elite was essentially in maintenance mode.
No new content for years. No new ships nothing. Then along comes all this stuff. And the game which is old, still has legs, still getting developed.
A far cry from 2019.
There's alot needs doing. Old legacy bugs, new bugs, bugs to be. Content that's ongoing & forthcoming. It's an exciting time in elite world.

Be thankful. !

I'd rather a slower release cadence than them dumping poorly thought out half baked features quickly. What they release isn't perfect obviously but it's not horrible either.

This year we have long periods with nothing new.
  1. Vanguards is planned for Summer 2025. Q3 is until the end of September 2025.
  2. Panther Clipper Mk II was unveiled in April. 28th of May is probably gameplay video and specs info. Release date could be in July 2025.
  3. 3rd new ship in Autumn = probably September or October 2025.
  4. Secret new feature and 4th new ship in Winter 2025 = probably December 2025.
So May, June till late July we get nothing new except maybe a few Trailblazers patches to fix bugs and improve some stuff.

Whatever the new feature is I think it won't be any of the top 5 requests.

How will you survive the new content drought?
I was thinking about getting a pedicure for each toe separately, I like to be thorough and now as you said, I got the time.

I've been with ED since the Kickstarter. The drought was worse in the past. Still I think updates with new content or additions to existing features should be more frequent. Or give players more sandbox tools to create emergent gameplay. Maybe they're working on a big expansion, but I doubt it.
ED is not the only live service game I'm playing. Hardly any of their development teams manage to get out more than two major and 2-3 minor content releases. A few have tried, and it did not go well.

I think it's also fair to say that one thing FDev do not do with their planned content releases is think small. Major updates typically change the game significantly. I do often wonder if we're already at the point of too fast.

Another space game is pumping out significantly more content in 1 year:

Q1: 2025 = Big Update
Q2: Summer Expansion, Fanfest
Q3: Tournament, Summer Expansion Update
Q4: Winter Expansion, Tournament, big in-game events

There's also major graphics upgrades, more ships.

That's true there's been much slower years.

It's free! And please yes buy arx. Perhaps it's backdoor income but it'll allow the gods to continue developing elite. That's what we all want

That's true these are free updates, but I would pay a subscription fee or a premium membership to speed up development and to increase the chances that we'll get big DLC.

Which one?

If you do some research you can find the developer which has a much bigger development team dedicated to its space-themed game, higher revenue per year, more active players... This enables them to do more, but they're also less distracted by other game projects.

It’s hardly a content drought. It’s a bit like saying we’re having a drought because it’s not raining every day.

A few months of no new or improved content is a drought imo.

Why are you not willing to say?

I don’t have time to “research” your cryptic clues.

They must be having content droughts too. Only 4 things in a year. I hope you’re complaining on their forums too.

I dont want to derail teh thread about it. I don't have to respond to your either.

Lots more stuff in 1 year and per quarter. They are doing better in terms of concurrent active players, revenue per year and new or improved content per year. They actually put a lot of effort in updating the graphics too. Level of detail of all the ships, ray tracing, DLSS support. Don't have broken anti-aliasing. Meanwhile ED's graphics are aging like spoiled milk. They have the budget and fanbase to hold big conventions. Fdev has not held a convention since several years.

I’ll take your assertions with a piece of salt then. It’s easy to make claims without any back up.

Edit: and it was you who brought it up in the first place…
