edit: heh, great minds ... ^^

Have some rep to compensate :)

Downvoted in one place for mentioning it, upvoted in the other.

Sounds like the problem that a lot of people consider with reddit, exists here but here there is only +rep or report... so in psychological terms we can only work with positive reinforcement? Does that mean reddit's issue is that it promotes negative reinforcement?

I don't use reddit so from my outside perspective, the forum users hear sound as controlling and 'gang-like' as those anywhere else. I mention this based on the posts I have been reading, not just this incident of reddit/e: d cross talk.

As an alpha backer, based on what FD had previously stated on the subject, will I be able to get a refund if guilds are implemented at some point in the next 10 years ?

I'm joking about the refund, but... I'm curious... IMO consequences for the game are on the same level as the dropped offline mode, if not bigger.

I'm genuinely surprised by the amount of people who say that they considered guild support (or lack of it) as part of their purchasing decision.

Did people seriously expect a game marketed as an MMO to have players who wouldn't try to organise into groups?

And, now that groups have formed anyway (using functionality outwith the game) - making life easier for those groups would make people quit the game.

Seriously?

I never managed to get worked up about offline-gate myself (I'm a backer), as the change was made before release and alterations are to be expected with kickstarter projects.

But I really don't like the idea of having my "itinerant bounty hunter" play-style cramped by clubhouse sign's saying "NO GURLS ALOUD" popping up outside random (to me) stations.

Cripes almighty.

Ok, lets stop putting words in Ziggy's mouth shall we? English is not my first language but I think I can convey a coherent thought. So answering these one by one.

Never implied they did

Nope.

Nope.

I'm not suggesting anything. I made an argument. You don't have to pretend I am suggesting anything, you can just respond to the very words I type on this very keyboard appearing on your, well, very screen.

I'm suggesting you read!

The same goes for you.

I was only responding to your words, but perhaps I should have quoted them all rather than one post.

I am questioning the obsession with the fact that people from reddit came and voted and why that is inherently bad. That is what I was hoping to learn from you, but I appreciate your time in responding.

Or..... Someone who subscribes to both forums saw the ealier REDDIT refs and said to their guild mates, clan mates, friends, add nausea lets go bug their poll out.... Either way it's very obvious that the poll is a wreck so it's best ignored. It was never going to be anything other than a rough straw poll anyway.

The poll is a wreck because people other than those already registered here voted?

Why does this matter? I hadn't posted here in a couple of months and only started again recently including voting here... do I not count too?

Whoa wait a minute. 12 hours ago, the poll had No guilds or player owned stations at 60% ... and now that's down to 35% while guilds and limited player owned stations is on 55%.

I call on the poll ... or to put that another way IT'S RIGGED.

No, the poll is a wreck because the mods caught people ballot stuffing (and by doing so have damaged their own cause).

I'm fine with players organising within the current structure of the game. In fact I am an official cheerleader for one if those organisations.

I am not fine with players/guilds being in control of parts of the game outside the ship they have. I don't like other players controlling for instance whether I'm allowed to dock at a station. If they want to stop me, use your ship. That's all I have as well.

Wings was for me a feature that I don't like, but can stomach. Just.

Powerplay is for me acceptable since the players still have the only tool available to them that they should have. Their ship.

Yup... seriously

After watching games come under the "control" of guilds/clans...I want one well away from the control of armchair Generals

Loose groups and such are fine... but once laughable groups calling themselves Guilds/Clans start making demands it's the downhill slope....

Ok, if you say that is the case.

Please quote me where I claim people from reddit coming here and voting is inherently bad.

And after you fail to do so, since I never said nor implied such things, do you now see what I mean with putting words in my mouth?

It's not just you who thinks it rigged, here it is from a mods own fingertips :

There have been many zero day accounts today, most of which have had no activity but, guess what, vote on this poll.

ETA - another 10 accounts as I typed the above

I'm not surprised, but I do think it's hyperbole. I think they would have bought the game, regardless of that feature. I very much doubt that of all the features ED boasts that 'Guilds' was that contested and noteworthy.

It's rigged because you disagree with it? Because statistically, it happens all the time. When you have a small amount of votes, it can go one and then go the opposite way. This happens in elections and you can watch it happen on tv, live.

I bought it as an MMO, back in early beta FD said they were making this game massively multiplayer. It set an expectation which I don't think 'wording around' the meaning is what they intended to do, but they let it go on because of the accelerated development needed to hit the 30 year anniversary mark. 'Guilds don't fit Elite' because it was always a single player franchise. Of course you don't have guilds in Single Player!
Now, in the future present its massively multiplayer online, and it has a ten year plan. CQC happened. More will happen, but it will still never be EvE. I like that about Elite Dangerous. I like that I don't have gate campers or mass manipulation in game. Thanx for keeping that in check, FD.

It's rigged because of the massive swing in the opposite direction in such a short space of time.
And no, it doesn't happen on fair and properly run elections ... and when it does it happen in elections, people do rightly call out the fairness of the vote.

Do I really have to find examples of vote rigging to debate this with you?

This poll ... which is about something that will never be implemented into this game ... is worthless.

So, lay this on me again, marketing the cause is ballot-stuffing?

I asked Ziggy this but we seem to have a communication barrier; why are more votes bad provided they are from individual, actual players? What is wrong with reddit and their community that makes them so reviled?

Also, the vote was pretty meaningless in the first place, as are most lets be fair. I've had a decent read of most peoples opinions which has been interesting, but I never expected to learn anything from the vote.

I think this could be interesting, but would need a insane amount of testing to see if its worth pursing.
I personally like the idea of guilds and stations but i can't see how it would actually work without screwing a lot of the game up.
Maybe a new part of the galaxy could be up for settling with just player stations, not too far from inhabited space but far enough that it doesn't impose more restrictions on travelling around.
