Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

True! And ED should be called out on that. It's definitely not a shining beacon of a large amount of totally unique gameplay mechanics. What's there is pretty solid however, though I agree exploration needs more love.
At the same time, NMS needs to be called out for what's wrong there. And people who put up NMS as this beacon of amazing variety need to be pulled down to earth.

What you posted isn't "hating on ED", and what we post isn't "hating on NMS". It's all fair game.

To be fair... the real life galaxy is gonna be pretty darn repetitive too. I'd love to see a person review the real universe, and talk crap about the job God did... "Yet ANOTHER electron flowed through my synapses! How boring..! Augh.. not enough seratonin jerkwad! Couldn't He at least have made women be less repetitive in their rejection of me?! I was promisd multiplayer!"

It's been literally copy-pasted from the PS4.

Funny, I watched a bunch of PC streamers last nite and none were having the issues people are whining about. ITT: people whose PCs and PS4s are completely full of cat hair, second-hand smoke, and malware complain when a game runs like crap on their hard-drive based computer. Get a         SSD chums! It is time!

Without SC, I don't think either Elite or NMS would be here.

Now that is just wrong. I think what you meant to say is, without Elite, neither SC nor NMS would be here.

And without Galaxy On Fire ...

No I meant exactly that. But for more clarity - without the success of the Star Citizen's crowdfunding, I don't think Frontier would have contemplated the Elite: Dangerous kickstarter, and I don't think Sony would have been so interested in acquiring NMS (though admittedly I'm hazy on the date... quick check... yeah SC predates work starting on NMS by one year).

Now without Elite '84... ;) And without the RPG Traveller, or Star Trader... ;) :)

... What I hope doesn't happen, is that the (inevitable) backlash from yet another procedural generation space game getting a reputation for being 'empty' and 'contentless', means that Frontier decide to pull the plug on planetary landings/later seasons of Elite, as 'non-viable' products, given lack of market interest. ...

Shush! Don't say this!
You are frightening the kids (and me)!

Empty you say? From part of a review on Reddit

The universe feels a bit too empty. All these planets, space stations and ships- and a massive galactic market that you can buy and sell commodities by the ton in every space station- but who's using all of it? Where are the people? I love the massive empty planets, but I'd like to see some settlements, a city or even a megalopolis. Orbital habitats, signs of population. Obviously there's all kinds of aliens around, they must live somewhere, right?

Not sure about Sony, but FD and David planned Kickstarter since February of 2012 - that is when he publicly announced their intentions to do Kickstarter. Funny thing is that after few months Chris started to rush his own project very, very fast, hyping it beyond means. Kickstarter UK was launched 1st November, and 2nd November ED Kickstarter was launched sequentially.

So I think CR more like realised that's how to do it from David comments.

Holy snikeys, NMS got 25k reviews on Steam already. While Elite is sitting at 16k. Funny how a game that looks like      compared to Elite get so much more attention. That's marketing and hype I tell you.

I wonder how many people who play and enjoy NMS will then want to move on to a big boy's game like ED? ;)

Question to anyone who might know: Are there any gameplay differences between the PS4 and PC versions?

I've just discovered a lifeless 'high sentinel security' planet, hardly any Flora, but some deposits of rare minerals that fetch good prices, you don't get much time to mine it before you are set upon by angry robots tho!

I dnt know y some ppl r wishing for NMS to fail. I have SC ED and NMS and i want them all to reach the best level a space game can reach. Each game offer a different gameplay, I played SC for 50 hours, ED for 1000 hours and now NMS for 10 hours. I like all of them. Maybe cause i remember playing games in the 80's on black and white screen so i appreciate any game currently out there.

I went into NMS as a survival indie game in space and im nt disappointed. When SQ42 is released i will play that too same for ED 2.2 2.3 2.4.

keep in mind 5 years ago we had none of them.. So no matter what u think of the state of these 3 games now its much better then having none.

Don't think anyone wants it to fail, but granted, there's a dollop of schadenfreude given how some people thought it would be the game to end all games and that it would show Frontier 'how to do a space game' .

Ppl who thought that r crazy.. i may play NMS for a month, once ED update to 2.2 i will play it for month, new AAA game comes around i will play that till i finish it.. There will never ever be a game that end them all. PPL who think there will be dnt know how games work.

Sort of the advantage of ED's update model... always gives you a reason to come back and check it out again ;)
