Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

This is a short, but really good video. It shows off in a very effective way what NMS really offers.. Exploration.
Its not my video, mine are usually pretty bad. But this YT'er has done a great job, with very little time wasted in conveying the message. :)

Hello CMDRs,

Every now and then I pop into this thread for a look at the current conversation going on. I enjoyed playing NMS when I did, and don't really carry the angst that some do over previously raised issues.

The reason I'm posting, though, is just to ask if there has been any recent talk from official channels about VR being implemented in NMS?

Thanks :)

No, Cult Classics develop a following, that typically continues to grow, after their initial commercial flop...

But isn't 'cult classic' a euphemism for 'flop only a few people like a lot'? :S

I was just chasing down someone with a bounty of 100,000u on him/her. Got very close and the game crashed...... Just my luck..:(

First time I've seen one with a bounty on their heads.. Nice. [big grin]

And just to add, when it came up on the hud with the bounty, it also said they were 'mostly harmless'.. Not sure where they got that from.;)
It might be a good sign for any would be bounty hunters that may be playing. I'm in experimental, so not sure if they are in the main game.

Bounties would be a nice addition, I really must fire this up again.

Last time I logged off in my survival game, all I needed to repair my ship was some Heridium.

I know there is a resource in the area, but it was a good 10min walk ingame, last time I tried to make it I got caught in a storm on the way and couldnt find shelter.

Must try harder!

The first walk to the ship is probably the hardest thing to do in survival. Once you get airbone, you will get access to bases and soon vehicles. Makes life and exploring a whole lot easier.

I kinda failed to notice any difference between when i started and 1.23.. lol

But!

I just purchased my first ship from some guy in a space station. 500,000cr for 21 slots.

Of course, the very next thing i did was stumble across a crashed ship with 17 slots for free.

I hate RNG sometimes. Lol

17 unlocked slots? Because I'm sure it wasn't. Those slots marked red - you have to buy them. Yep, not repair. Buy them. And they come at a pretty penny, not cheap.

No however the game has been ported over to the PS4 Pro and with that came quite a bit of graphical improvements. Modders have noticed that sizes are no longer locked. Before they had to trick the game into spawning larger things for the mod, however with 1.2 that has been removed, which seems to suggest that larger creatures/trees will be coming next content update. Unlike the PS4 which struggles to maintain 30 fps, the PS4 Pro has plenty of breathing room for larger scale/more dense creatures and trees. I suspect that's coming next in terms of graphical improvements. As far as VR, all the PS4 VR games are heavily neutered graphics wise, with the 3d procedural terrain there rather high amount of minimum GPU usage. So much I'm not confident the PS4 Pro could handle this game in VR and I highly doubt Sony will allow HG to add VR just on PC. ED might work with PSVR though, the current planets are 2D noise and are significantly less taxing.

I got some time to log on at the weekend and finally managed to make the journey to get Heridium, I died a few times trying, but luckily there were caves (holes) along the route, so I could hop between them to get shelter.

The planet is Toxic, so I dont get long out in the open and if it rains I'm screwed, I also have to be very careful with running or using the jetpack as I dont seem to be able to find the elements I need to replenish my life support.

I'm looking forward to leaving that dump of a planet!

I did find a creature with the body of a dog and the head of a fly, I didnt know whether to stroke or swat it.

I absolutely love the "camera" feature, (all games should have it) here are just a few pics I garbed this week:

I so agree with this. I really don't understand why all games doesn't have at least free cam with a toggle for HUD.
Devs spend years building fantastic graphical assets and when users have access to supersampling techniques, advanced post process, mods, custom aspect ratios and more, in-game photography can really flourish. If the company just lets us.

Yeah, most of them needed "buying"... However you do that....?

I stole some bits off it, and left it behind for someone else.

Not really played it since.
The 1.4gb update is taking forever... Damn internet.

I finally got through to Sky though, and my internet will hopefully be fixed Thursday! Wooh!

Then I'll be back on ED, in Open. Finally!
I've missed Open. Solo is so dull. But i hated the lag I was probably causing everyone else. Although, I coulda' gone to a CG though, and trolled the trolls with my dodgy connection. Lol

I just got back to the game after playing only 10 hours or so originally. I didn't want to restart so I just continued in Standard Mode.

The only "mod" I made was to unlock the base complexity and building limits, letting me expand outside the initial 14u radius sphere from the habitable base pod.

I just got started here.

Lol I've already lost interest in NMS.

Got half a base built. No vehicle yet. Got a better ship, but it feels exactly like my old one, but with more storage. Lol
My builder person wants me to find 50 of something, spadonium or whatever. But I've jumped to 5 systems, and nothing.
And it's not like ED where hyperspace is easy, no, you have to craft fuel for the damn hyperdrive. Every. Single. Jump.
It's not fun. Lol

For lolz, I built my first base on the most inhospitable planet I'd ever found.
A hot, radioactive world, with bouncing pineapple lifeforms. My exosuit only kept me alive for about 60 seconds outside. But i still managed to tag all the bouncing legless aliens. :p
I only recently moved it to a warm, friendly planet.

I still have no idea what I'm doing, or why.

I could probably do with a mod to make hyperspace cells a bit more efficient. I'd rather one lasted 3-4 jumps, minimum.

Atleast travel in my FDL won't seem so painful anymore!

Great base!

I've been having a lot more fun with the recent updates that came to the NMS than the updates that have come or are to come in ED (beta).
