Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

I've only about an hour of it tonight and already experienced some nastiness. One in particular where the game lost focus somehow and my character just stood there spinning on a spot, couldn't exist via escape so had to kill it in task manager.

Bit annoying.
I just crashed too. I was in the Anomaly/Nexus and was leaving. Suddenly I found myself in space, without space suit or ship. Was dying, and suddenly frozen. Not just me, but the game too.

You need to point your left hand, Onward style. If you just operate thumbs with arms down, you will have trouble establishing what forward is. The second you raise your hand forward it will "just work". You can also twist your writst for some strafing.
That did the trick for sprinting, thanks. I’ve had no trouble with moving forward, just sprinting. Seems like I need to raise my controller within 30deg of horizontal for sprint to work.

Now I can’t shake the feeling that when I’m sprinting away from dangerous creatures with my arms stretched out in front of me, I should be shouting “zoinks!” and having the Scooby Doo theme playing :)

So, after a while now in the new update, I'm just wondering what was really included for exploration. I know base building, ships, feeding animals etc, making a farm, even a zoo perhaps, which is all fun for many players is great. Plus new improvements in the general game itself is obviously welcomed. I also know MP is good too for many players/groups and I support all that HG have done for the game. But I just wonder why exploration in a game that was all about exploration is sort of being left behind a little. There is so much more they could do for players that just want to travel and explore, not settle or make a base, fleets etc.

I don't use my base or my freighter/capital ship (or indeed my other ships, would be nice to have a sell ship feature) I don't stay in one place and I love seeing the many varied planets. But seeing as HG is really bringing new things to the game, I was just kind of thinking as I was playing, that exploration has been left behind a little.

The original game was great when released and still is, but seeing as they are putting this much effort into things that weren't mentioned as being part of the game and making a whole other game in a sense, just why they didn't think exploration was worth tinkering with. There is so much they could do for explorers, but seem as though they're not really that bothered and the game has taken a slightly different direction.

Just a thought.

Quite right mate. Exploration should always be at the very heart of this game. This update is good though as it adds a lot of quality of life stuff

Also, how do you play with others? I go to Join game I don't see any games available.
Im a console player with friends....
They can invade the game at any time with the friends system...
I can do the same... open spoiler...

Man, sometimes this game can be extremely trolly. I find this crashed pod that I can open, if only I had some some Pugneum material. That Pugneum material is only obtained from sentinels. Must be something worthwhile then I reckon? As it turns out finding sentinels in my system is tough because it is mostly low security. Have to waste tons of launch and pulse fuel to get to the right place, then die a few times in combat, then spend more fuel to get back (oh dont forget the materials I needed to make the beacon so I could get back). Finally I can open the darn crashed pod, arf arf. The reward? A ridicule amount of nanites.

Probably all part of the learning curve but man. Sean, let me tell you about opportunity cost, reward and grind.

I do not know, but only one of them has made big claims to have reduced grind while some obvious signs suggest it is not quite really the case.

I guess if you already had the mats to unlock the escape pod from 'just playing the game' it wouldn't have been a grind and if you didn't you could shrug your shoulders and walk away from it.

Or something... insert any quote from DD regarding ED grind

I submitted an idea today. Based on that you can do some archaeological finds like buried skeletons, how about being able to find a couple different sites with different parts and have a tool to build a full skeleton and put it on display in your base.

I'm glad I reinstalled this, enjoying it more than the previous 2 times i tried it. I'm not far into it at all maybe a few hours tops.

On the sentinels I too have noticed the Pugneum thing and I occasionally destroy the odd sentinel now and hide from the reinforcements.

Tried this out yesterday, in VR, and unlike all my previous attempts, I started renaming and uploading things, and tried out some tools etc. So I'm looking forward delving more into it. It doesn't look like they have a VR keyboard, yet, or is there a bind for that? I hope they update that.
Plus, I clicked on 'multiplayer' but no servers showed up. Is there a thing for that?

Seeing this, I'm very much looking forward to see how Elite develops.

Well, what I can say is On Xbox, it's buggy as all hell, pop in is horrible, frame rate is choppy hitting 30fps only some of the time. Stations, whole stations disappear in multiplayer and when I restarted & loaded up my save file I was moved from where my ship was parked into space above a heavily populated planet that I had never been to. The only way around this was to start the game again as a single player then invite my friendback in (this placed me in the correct place & loaded up the station I was parked at). About an hour later the same thing happened to my friend in another space station at that point we gave up. To give it it's due I played a few hours on my own today the only real issues I had were the choppy frame rate, slow pop in of textures, and flashing textures / HUD. Other than that, It worked OK.

So, this evening I tried on my laptop, previously I could play on medium settings & all was well, now, standard (in other words the lowest settings available) is the only option available to me, pushing it any higher has a catastrophic effect on frame rate (think single digits). Additionally, again, pop in of objects is horrible, oh & now my xbox controller does not work properly yet was working perfectly well previously. I want to like this game, I really do but it is trying everything in it's power to put me off at the moment.

Weird bug found tonight. The Roamer 3D model disappears. I jump out. Turn around it's gone, but on in visual. It's there still in sound, can bump into it, even get the "X" to enter, and can jump in and drive, and accidentally get the "1st person" view of driving the vehicle! 😄

The only time I met other players was in the Nexus (is that's what it's called?)

I'm playing on the Index, I have a few things on Ultra and a few things on standard. I"m playihg at 120Hz because the game is smoother reprojecting at 120hz than at 90hz.The game looks really good and runs smoothly 80% to 90% of the time.

This game is pretty addictive. I've already put in 23 hours in less than a week.
