Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

For exosuit inv slots you can increase one at every space station you visit in each new system. Also you can get extra slots when you find drop pods. These have turned out more difficult to find now though. Before Beyond you could just use navigational data in signal boosters to locate minor outposts to get drop pod coordinates. Now it is purely RNG.

Additionally, you can find another exosuit upgrade slot at the anomaly (it's behind the exosuit blueprint guy). You can get one extra slot per system. So two per system if you get one at the space station and one at the anomaly. You don't really need drop pods any more.

Only advantage to drop pods is price. Mid-game to late game when you can afford your own Atlas, yeah, spend 10m and not care.

Mm... takes a while to get to those levels though. Also, once it starts getting too rich on general inventory slots, you can expand cargo & technology slots (where the price of entry is much lower, particularly for the latter).

Anyone on PC having trouble with the "Ctrl 1-0" shortcut keys? I have 9,8,7,6 all setup to recharge various bits of kit but when I restart a game and press them first time I get the "select other ship" of the summons options.

They changed the kb/m & controller interface, using Steam's API instead of their own. There are other issues that happened when they did that. I still can't tag using "X" on controller. Now, I can't change between controller and kb/m at will (combat is much easier with kb/m, but walking around and flying are better with controller, but it won't switch between now). And other things that are still annoying. Basically, NMS is great, but their controller interface seems to always be an issue.

That makes sense. I've not tried with the recent update but pressing F12 in the GoG edition exited the game. No dump file however. (Edit - fixed)

Wow, I just stumbled across one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had in any game - still images cannot do it justice. Stunning, mesmeric, meditative. I know ED rightly gets a lot of kudos for their sound design, but I'm feeling a bit of love for NMS too, the soundscape on this planet was perfect for its ethereal feel.

PS Does anyone know why the picture mode crops the images and looses the 'glyph' references in the bottom left corner?

I think their idea was to allow or hide it because that's what it said last week, now it doesn't. Just showing glyphs. The glypsh is the address to your system if someone wants to visit through a portal.

On a note about the planet you're on, you can occasionally find one of them being an artifact of the kind that you can pick up and place in your base as memorabilia. They can be a bit hard to find, but the visor can help.

There are lots more planets you'll find that give you that alien feel.. These are by far the best planets, for me anyway.

Vid I did from a while back.

They're signified by a yellow "?" on your visor. Someone said the other day they're gone from the game in Beyond - but they're still there... found one last night (and the forum won't let me upload a photo :( )

Back before this video below, players could play around with colour effects and so on. But HG removed that and decided to do it themselves and we got planets like this below.
Not sure if they're still using these effects, not found a planet recently with this colour difference. It's a good effect and I did a few earlier videos using the tool they gave us, made for some nice pics too.

Strange.... I can still switch between controller and kb/m at will! controller interface does suck though.....consolitis of the worst kind. Along with lack of multiple saves per game session.

If you are into this sort of thing, I read in last nvidia drivers update that they now support colour filters in many games, including no man's sky. You might want to look into that.

EDIT:
Nvidia said:
Apply Freestyle Game Filter for 350 more games:
- Press [Alt+F3] to apply post-processing filters to your games while you play. Freestyle is now supported in 350 more games, including Wolfenstein: Youngblood, No Man’s Sky, Gears 5, Resident Evil 2, and F1 2019. We also added a new improved sharpen filter so you can further enhance the details of your games

Same here - I can still swap between kb/m and xBox controller without issue - the xBox controller works well for flying, and is the only way I could (haven't tried recently) get head-movement in flight.

EDIT: Does anyone know what the difference is between placing starship technology in technology slots and general slots? (I've only just realised I can move them from general to technology, freeing up a bit of inventory space.

I was curious about that too so I googled a few days ago. If you want to take the time to min-max, it's slightly better to split the same technology across the two sets of slots, general and technology. Here's a visual guide:

I have found two, of different sorts, the first was quick (while hiding from sentinels, they were a bit aggro on that planet), and the other it took forever to find one. I suspect they might be slightly more rare than before, but they're definitely still there.

Yeah. That's strange. Oh, well, considering that past couple of weeks when one person can play and another can't even start the game it somehow doesn't surprise me. I haven't changed anything on my computer and it was working fine last week.... but loo and behold, now the "X" for tag works though. Win some, lose some. 😄

Update:

Today, or rather now in the early morning drinking my first coffee for the day and after restarting the machine... uh... it works again. No problem using controller starting NMS from Steam normal mode and switch between them... What the heck happened the last couple of days. I couldn't even touch the mouse without screwing it up and now it's fine!?!? The computer had a two-day cold or something... 🤪

Dang. I'm jealous. I preferred using mouse for mining and combat, so it's annoying it's not working.

And on top of that, to make it work I have to start Steam in Big Picture mode to get NMS even register to use the controller at start. I'm starting to wonder if it isn't Steam that's messing it up somehow.

No difference besides giving you more storage space. --edit: Merkir is right above, I forgot you can split tech modules (at least some, had some issues with some other in the past) and double up upgrades.

I'm so happy they added the "move" function.
