Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

so many updates.... cant keep up...

It looks like a future update will feature new starbase exteriors. I really like the look of these!

I wonder if they weren't released yet because they are also going to overhaul the interiors? That would be a welcome change. One way or another, it is nice to know that HG is continuing to improve space stuff!

I took a Nexus mission today - I don't do enough of those. :) It was a mission to dig up some fossils for a virology project. I took SoShotto with me.

It was one of those burning planets. I did a lot of digging at night. At one point, I had to take shelter when a "wall of fire" storm blew in:

I turned the data over to Nada's research assistant who I found examining one of those burning pods. Yeah, I don't understand where they all come from either. :)

It was a good mission. In addition to the 400 QS, I also got 11 life support gels and got to sold the fossils for around 2.5 million credits!

I used the qucksilver to buy a poster for my base.

Oh look, another NMS update while FD are still 'investigating' a feature to update for another eight months before even letting out so much as a hint as to what they may or may not be revamping. Absolutely put to shame by Hello Games.

I can't agree more!!
And instead of tossing consoles out the window Hello Games keeps adding platforms an vr extensions.
As I see it, the way Frontier is doing, or rather isn't doing, things you can guess where ED is ultimately going.
I hold very good memories playing ED but those are from a long time ago, gradually Frontier managed to take all excitement away until they threw a whole part of the community out the window.
What a shame, it could've been so different, there was so much potential.

This new NMS update is way larger then many expected it to be since we recently already had some updates, those new ships we can own look awesome btw, gotta get me a couple of those!!

I hate to pile on, but it is true. There is something seriously wrong with management at Frontier. It's not just how they tortured Elite with a comedy of errors over the years, but also how they are ending support of their F1 Manager a mere two months post-launch so they can focus on the next title. This is not normal for any game company. This is why their stock price has absolutely cratered. Investors will shrug off a bad launch of a title - just look at how EA's stock price has recovered despite some bad news on their front - but investors will not turn a blind eye towards poor management that will undermine every project eventually.

Be that as it may, I am eager to get back into NMS today. I've been distracted by the 6.0 beta of X4, but now I have reason to go back to the wonderful space adventure that is NMS!

NMS: Interceptor, X4 6.0 + Kingdom End, and Everspace 2...it is going to be a busy month for space gamers! (That is, unless you just play Elite. Then you have nothing to look forward to. 🙄)

EDIT: Sadly, it looks like I will need to start a new campaign. None of my mission objectives are spawning. I started to notice this about two updates ago when the base archives depository wouldn't spawn on the planet it was supposed to. Now, I took a mission to photograph a desert planet and as with the base archive mission, even though I am in the right system, the objective planet won't spawn.

Oh well. Even though I would like to finish the main story one of these days, it is always fun to start over with a clean slate and enjoy all the stuff added to the game with fresh eyes.

How big is the elite development team? Im going to imagine they all are working on no mans sky during bench time while waiting for frontier management to approve something.

This time, im going to ban any sort of expedition going forward. There's something distressing about being told what to do in nms... no idea, it doesn't seem to work in that setting.

Its also funny on this forum to actually have updates to talk about rather than nothing except for getting into fights with white knights and sharing self therapy advice.

I am happy to say that I got the missions to work again. I tried jumping to a completely new system and re-initializing the mission and it worked! I found the place.

The explorer's guild mission I had to abandon as that one just wouldn't spawn. But I tried another and it worked fine. Hopefully things will go smoothly now.

For me it’s June.. street fighter 6 and Diablo 4. Haven’t personally looked forward to new releases since Witcher 3. If I have I don’t remember what they are.

If starfield is Skyrim in space I’ll just subscribe to Xbox game pass for it. If it’s star citizen single player will look for a collectors edition, but I doubt there’s going to be much space. And no I don’t expect working toilets. What we all wished for elite with a single player campaign will do.

Starfield is the big one for me. But that is so far away that I don't pay it much mind. Same goes for Stalker 2, come to think of it.

After this month I am down to waiting for WARNO to leave early access. Nothing else on my radar besides the aforementioned titles. (Well, getting my Battletech Mercenaries backer set, but that won't be for a long time yet!)

I made "Dangerous" but in a different game! :D

It's slightly depressing that all the games mentioned here are sequels (no reflection on Karrde Sun's tastes which I'm sure are excellent).

That's a very good point. I think i wrote the creative western world off at the threes or 4's. Part of the reason why i got into elite actually.. games were less art and more franchise. Springboard into publisher ambitions is also a niche, so credit to frontier there as well, but equally invalid. If they were going to be classy about it they would have done it as well as not neglecting elite.

EDIT: Street fighter comes from really enjoying the esports they have for it on youtube. Much better than i expected. Also grew up with arcades. And my son likes beating his dad on it. Number 6 has simplified inputs so he will be able to do the moves himself.. if the sexualisation isn't too much (for his mum). Diablo 4.. is more compensation for diablo 3. Its very lost arky.. which is strongly bad.. its so easy its pointless, the game is about the grind systems first.. you feel so sullied and used and placed on a rat wheel hoping money falls out.. but maybe they'll make that same formula in a different way that i want to play it. The beta was encouraging, but im just a very casual arpg player.

So many good looking games coming this year and I still have a considerable backlog plus the games I'm currently playing, ugh I just don't have enough days in a week.

ED has become a complete write off for me, the fun is gone, good job Frontier!!
NMS just keeps coming with new cool updates, it's truly amazing what Hello Games accomplishes, I just keep coming back to that game.
I realy hope Starfield will be as good as it looks so far, I don't get hyped so easily anymore, Frontier took care of that, but I must say that I'm quite thrilled about it.

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Yup. Sums up my feeling to. Just one example: not long after Horizons dropped, FDEV were shown by some indi devs how to make an SRV racing environment and construction set in the game. Rather than embrace a great idea, they told them to cease and desist and have done nothing with the idea.

Why?

HG on the other hand want their game to be fun and chock full of stuff to do. For free no additional cost.
