Modes The Open v Solo v Groups thread IV - Hotel California

I'm going to try and actually give you a substantive answer, even though I don't really think you were looking for one.

The community of which we speak is the members of the ED player base that are invested in the game, passionate about it and wish for it to be the best game it can be. We don't always agree. For some of us the most important thing is that it "remains Elite" and gives us the same feeling as the original did. For some they want to experience the epic space battles from the cockpit of their own ship and that's their highest priority. Others simply want to experience the galaxy which has been rendered on a scale never before seen in a game. We know we have different priorities and we also know that our voices, loud as they may be on the forums, are really very quiet where FD are concerned, who will continue to "make the game they want to play"

We disagree, sometimes quite vehemently but we still respect each other. Those that fail in that regard are quite rightly stomped on by the mods. Vigorous discussion is fine, none of us will "win" every argument and even when an argument is "won" if it doesn't fit with the devs collective vision it isn't going to happen. We remain committed to the game and that is why we are a community. A somewhat fractious and rowdy community sometimes, to be sure, but still a community.

You are right, I wasn't looking for an answer. I was however trying to get others to look for it because in this and other threads there are some who (seem) to want to force others to play the game their way. People who think that they have exclusive rights to the BGS because they play in open and there are even some that think that other players are just there for their entertainment. I was kinda upset by that so I thought try and provoke people into thinking...

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I think we need a new thread on this subject. It has not been thoroughly enough investigated.
:p:D;);):D

Cheers Cmdr's

Hmmmmm..... You're a real comedian.

Now there's sometimes talk of the Elite dangerous community and then I look at the forums and at this thread and I think to myself: "What community?"

It's okay, you're not the only one. I think every forum user that's been here for over a week has asked that question at one point or another.

Confirmed.

All modes are not equal and the other modes are easier!

Give me an Open PvE (Co-op, CMDR on CMDR fire off) And that's where I'd play 100% of the time.

Please visit this thread for possible alternative since FD seems reluctant to create a separate PvE mode:

Wow! This just goes on and on doesn't it?

Do any of you think that the last 3 mega-threads, this one or any of the next will actually change anything?

If not, why are you having this never-ending entirely pointless argument? This is a genuine question. I wonder whether any of you think that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is anything other than crazy.

I believe there was an answer to your question several pages ago. I don't remember it verbatim, but I think it has to do with the fact that we enjoy debating the topic (I just read as I wouldn't be able to form a proper post in this thread regarding the subject despite myself also rooting for a PvE Open, which will never happen; but we can dream, can we not?). Or not and that's just how I perceive it. Regardless, I do believe a similar question was asked and answered several pages ago. Forgive me for not wanting to venture back "in there".

I spent a decent amount of time in this game, got the ships I wanted and then realised there is nothing end game that is remotely fun. And the only reason for this is that not enough people play open - the few times we did the game was amazing but 1hr every 20 is sad. People say - PVE, but the PvE in this game is abysmal, nothing has changed since Elite II. Same missions and mission structure, boring mindless task with little to no reward, and certainly nothing that I imagined. The only way to get a challenge is to fly a Viper and attack big ships, otherwise game is too easy..

Now that doesnt mean strictly PvP, but it certainly encompasses it. I had my ass kicked by other players plenty of times, and that was one of the reasons I wanted to keep playing, to get them back... and in some cases I did which was satisfying.

But when you spend 20hrs on your own in CZ's, or attacking deep in enemy territory and nothing happens its just disheartening. I've stopped playing as a result (i know I know, good riddance)

sorry to hear you are unhappy with the game. (fingers crossed) big changes happening with the missions in 2.1, perhaps then you will get some enjoyment from the missions in the game...... Whilst generally i do not agree that the game is poor if you remove PvP from it, I do agree that there is a lot missing from the PvE side of things..... things which are bread and butter in most other flight / combat games.

things like meeting up with wings of ships to protect convoys (or attack convoys), random mayday adhoc missions from giant battleships (as seen in the early teaser video), sneaking up on diplomats / politicians and recording them or taking photos of them doing something shady, and if you get spotted then all hell breaks lose, ariel bombardment missions of ground targets or perhaps orbital platforms and of course passenger missions.

i am hoping some if not all of this is in store for us "soon".

It's called work, and it can get slow at times.

Ok, that is actually a decent answer :)

Thanks for the answer. I might, if feeling brave at some point, try to hunt the post you refer to down but wading through this thread is a tad like trying to run uphill in boots filled with treacle with an anvil strapped to one's back.

I hope they go a lot further, I could imagine wars or battles on a decent scale where multi crew may come in handy, exactly protect convoys, stations, battleships, or the opposite take them out..

Look I got my moneys worth, have all the ships I like up to the Conda but just was left feeling frustrated because this game is so so so close.. yet end game just fails. By end game I mean you essentially have everything you want and dont have a need for money - .. I played Elite II for years and spent 1000's of hours, in this I relived my childhood but after just lost the drive to jump in. I'll be certain to come back to it, but not before they fix a few core mechanics...

Switched to open a while back in hopes of interesting player interaction, and today ran into my first player interdiction. Hailed the pilot, no response besides opening fire at me. Tried to at least dump some cargo to make him stop.

A short moment of silence, followed by "i m no prate im killer".

Ehhhh...

That sucks man. I don't think I've ever random-chanced an encounter with people like that. Most of the time its friendly banter after a near miss or a collision in a resource belt. The worst come from the big-ship griefers when you catch em with their pants down. I like to keep screenshots of those one-way conversations because the hatred and angst generated by taking down some kids big bad iClipper after catching him trying to dunk on a sidewinder or eagle are absolute gold.

Aw... that's unfortunate...

But what can you say, some people are so bored of the game and don't have things to do. Most legitimate pirates either left the game or are on hiatus because of the current status of the profession.

Try again when 2.1 comes out, it might fix some aspects to piracy to invite actual pirates back.
