The Open v Solo v Groups thread

Whatever open or solo should look like, solo should affect only discoveries, markets, solo cmdr should be included in traffic raports, and i m not sure about CG's, but i think no, as CG's are more or less competetive gameplay as well, so maybe this should be allowed, but in other competetive elements of a game, that is power play, combat BGS, all influance affecting BGS actions, solo should be read only, there is plenty of negative interference coming from solo and pg sqd's and playerbases, one of them is negative feedback in BGS and power play, that open power is double punishhed by choosen mode, as solo/pg players not provide any content and make game simply dying in long term.

What's the difference between a solo player & one playing in Open but blocking every P2P connection? Or an Open player online while you sleep?

I do it in Open (with an empty blocklist) & it's kinda funny to see players acting as guards. Nobody wants to be a guard, and you just know the people acting as guards were asked to do that because they aren't trusted to do anything more complicated.

Faction conflicts played out in open are the game at it's best though, I'd encourage anyone to experience it if they get the chance.

IMO if they're going the full gamut with this, they need to make the big 3 factions mutually exclusive as well.

As in, not just Powerplay or local faction disputes. Make it completely competitive, so no more having a Cutter, Corvette and Alliance ships all at once...

Make your choice, stick with it and deal with the consequences of your actions. No more p-footing around with the cherry-picked player choice arguments. Either DO it, or DON'T, but quit with the negative connotations about "kumbaya" yet wanting everything to be available to you at the same time.

While that might suit some players who enjoy PvP (or the possibility of PvP), we all bought a game where all players experience and affect the shared galaxy and where other players are optional, meaning that PvP is optional - and where no in-game features require any player to even possibly engage in PvP. Not all players enjoy or even want to tolerate PvP - and they have as much "right" to play the game their way as those who want to engage in PvP, having bought the game on the same basis.

If some players want an Open only galaxy to play in then the most equitable solution is to propose that a new Open only mode be created, with its own galaxy to affect (initially a copy of the existing galaxy) - so that those players who don't actually want to share the galaxy with players they can't shoot at have a galaxy to call their own (shared between the five discrete Open modes, of course), leaving the existing tri-modal shared galaxy as it is, for players who don't mind sharing the galaxy with players they won't instance with.

Seems awfully complicated compared to just clicking on 'open play' when you start a session and joining the wider community :)

It depends on how each player wants to play the game - and the unwanted attentions of some players make other players choose not to waste their leisure time playing with them. The Open only galaxy copy solution is more equitable, in a game where PvP is an optional extra which is not required by any in-game feature, than forcing players to play in Open to affect pan-modal game content.

The "wider community" includes players in all game modes all of the time, not just those who choose to play in Open (some of the time at least), even if some seem to want to exclude the those who don't choose to play the way they want them to.

No it doesn't, it's always going to be less complicated to click a different button that's already there than to have the Devs make a new button, let alone all the wiring that will be needed to connect the button to something ;)

Just playing in Open is the simplest solution :)

Less complicated is not the same as equitable.

Of course, the least complicated solution is for pan-modal game content to remain pan-modal with player actions in all modes counting for the same in terms of affecting game features - thereby not seeking to force players into Open to engage in it / not be penalised when engaging in it.

Agreed, let's just play the damned game however we want, within the existing framework. I'll carry on having everything you want & you carry on wanting everything I have ;)

Another thing is the block list, even open with a full block list is the same as Solo as you wont aee anyone in the game ;)
