THE OUTER LIMITS - A Slave Girl

Honestly now; would you take a slave girl/boy into deep space?

No slave boys or girls for me.
I am a loner.
Even having a skeleton crew on board of my ship would feel like a burden to me.
Most forms of social interaction I consider a chore at best and an embarrassment most of the time.
I would prefer a capable, businesslike robotic crew over socializing meat sacks anytime.

No. Slavery is immoral and wrong. Hence it being illegal in most systems in Elite.

That said, a question is raised. I recall scooping dropped cargo in Elite and getting slaves which then put me at odds with the local law because I had, involuntarily, become a slaver. In Elite Dangerous will it be possible to free such people? Freeing slaves is something I would like to do.

I suppose that in the game if as you say you scoop slaves then technically you are a "slaver" without wanting to be one and could get arrested going into anti-slavery systems to sell your goods.

I think it would be nice if the inventory gave you the option of one time right clicking and labeling the slaves portion of your cargo as "free on landing" without any option to change it back therefore allowing you to continue to your destination without second thoughts...or being naughty and getting them sold as seen :)

Part of the fun in gaming is in being bad - I'm sure we all spend enough time being responsible adults in RL.

So I'd have a cargo hold full of Slaves and at the first whiff of police heat it'll be "sorry officer, I don't know how I managed to jettison all that fertiliser" ;)

The Imperium begs to differ with you. (Read the links I gave earlier)

The Imperium is not the arbiter of what is moral or not.

Like it is fun to work as a bounty hunter, or as a privateer, or as a pirate or as a pirate hunter, it would be nice to be able to be a slaver or an abolitionist.

Hunting slavers, killing them and liberating their slaves sounds like fun.

The two "Yes" categories adds up to almost 2/3 of all votes(!)

I voted "No", even if I don't expect any problems with solitude.

Liberating them into the vacuum of space after you blow up the ship they were on.

No offence mate, but if I ever get sold into slavery please don't 'help' me out.

No, assuming it works as in Elite, they are in sealed containers in hibernation or some such. Scoop up the cargo and then free them

Or find out who the slavers are and kill them when they don't have cargo.

Alternatively, in the future when ship interiors are modeled, disable and board the slaver.

You seem oddly resistant to this idea...

Blowing up a slaver ship would be a GOOD thing, if you secure the innocent slaves' lives. But I agree it's a risky thing to do. You need to have some weapons with stunning effect so that the slaves aren't hurt. An EMP bomb or something.

Each day I have to fit morality into life, gaming is a huge opportunity to be as immoral as possible, and enjoy the experience. I would commit all possible crimes based on our reality.
The tricky bit might be when real players are involved online, because I might be a racist character in game and kill certain races only and save others for example, but I would not want to be racist to real player races.
I think it should be laid out clearly that when someone games in a virtual world you are playing a fictional character and even if you copy your own traits into the character, discrimination factors such as gender, race, sexuality etc. they are not protected in a virtual character/world. You are protected, but not your character.
I expect that to be divisive though.

I could never play a game character that goes against my morale.
Really?
But there is a whole area of imagination and experience you miss?
Some philosopher (can't remember who) once said something like if he knew he was impervious to the consequences he would go and murder someone, just to know what it feels like to kill a fellow man. And if anyone does not consider doing such things they are not truly alive. ...

Now that is an extreme but I understand the logic.
In a game you can do these things and not actually harm someone.
Simulation is such an amazing thing.
If someone can correct me on the philosopher and the phrase please do.

Just remember if you free Imperial Slaves you may not get what you bargained for, hope you have checked up FDs plans on slavery ;)

Oh and feel free to be enlightened warriors, i will be quite happy to lighten you of your craft when you come to get my slaves  :p

It wouldn't be a good thing if you destroyed a legit slaver in Imperial space. I reckon you'd have a bounty on your head. ;)
