I will try and save the slaves, then flee. If that's no option I would fight you until I die. No one forces me into submission. Ever. Not in ED and not in RL. I'll rather take the hard route than prostrating myself to criminals.

I hope you don't get mixed up and kidnap Imperial slaves, they are not forced into slavery and if you did kidnap them you would be the criminal.

And Commander Mars would come for you!

[EDIT: I See Perseus made the same point earlier]

What i mean is that i have a feeling that some big things are changing on this world right now. And having players wanting to have more a kind of humanitarian rather than just a pure capitalistic approach towards the elite universe reflect this fact.

What about having the Zeitgeist movement within Elite for example to represent better the real and future world?
A resource based economy that is self sustainable and there is no need for greed and destruction any longer? ;)

I don't want to force other players to live this way, but it would be funny to have those socio-political ideas part of that universe in a contrast to all those other old political systems. Even for players who prefer the old systems would surely have their fun to be confronted with those other kind of players. ;)

Intercultural competition is an incredible motivator and generates technological advances like nothing else - especially the warfare aspect.

Perfect Human societies are a myth and, quite frankly, a little bit sinister to my mind. Negative parts of the Human condition are integral to our identity.

Any peaceful, resource rich none violent culture is at risk of attack from greedy, jealous rivals and would need protecting.

People are always property of their society.

85% of Elite backers perfectly fine with slave girls I see.

Frontier had best make sure they program in a variety of slave girl NPCs then to sit behind you looking terrified in combat for you you look around with your Oculus rift on.

Sample size is very small.

I'd be quite disapointed if such gamer-boy fare ends up in the game. I'm sure the setting has it's dark side (we run guns and slaves occasionally afterall), but putting explicit sex slaves into the game would be really low.

These sad, tragic things exist in the real world. It should not be trivialised, nor made to feel normal.

We are starting to sound like the Sons of Anarchy.

Well easy to agree in isolation with the sentiment. But by that logic we should all boycott films that glorify guns (which is almost all of them), video games that incorporate violence, a large percentage, etc.

And yes while that is a nice idea, it really is not going to happen. And besides, why assume it trivialise these matters. It makes people stop and think, this thread has made a number of people really stop and think about slavery, which is more positive then ignoring it entirely.

OK yes my in game character Titus might be fine with keeping a slave girl, but the dude behind the keyboard would step up pretty fast if he discovered a house down the road was being used for slave girl trading.

(after all that sort of thing would dump on house values in the street)

The ethics of slavery has come up before on the forum. I said the same as you, though far less eloquently I am sure.

Well, such "gamer-boy fare" was inspired by the official literature of Elite.

These are games, make believe, some people like to role play a "do-gooder" (please excuse the disparaging comment used to balance out "gamer-boy") whilst others prefer to role play a nastier character. Neither choice reflects on the soul of the person behind the keyboard. That's like saying Barbara Cartland is a better person than Iain Banks because she wrote about "nice" people.

"gamer-boy fare"

It may be worth highlighting at this point that the story, the part of the elite lore on which this thread is based, and in which the topic of slave girls used for companionship was raised, was written by a woman.

You inspired me to write a moral justification for Imperial slavery, which I think I can. I'll start a thread when I've done it.
