I do see bits of Borderlands humour in there, but I really struggle to see much of a Bioshock in anything I've seen so far. What exactly do you mean?Once you strip away the quirky humor and landscape, the gameplay looks pretty standard for the genre. And I really am struck by how much they're trying to copy Bioshock. It's the definition of a "pick up the GOTY edition for sale 66% off on Steam" a couple years from present.
The UI presentation, color scheme, the guy communicating via the hud, overall vibe. Hard to explain if you haven't played BioshockI do see bits of Borderlands humour in there, but I really struggle to see much of a Bioshock in anything I've seen so far. What exactly do you mean?
I played all of them multiple times. I just don't see it.The UI presentation, color scheme, the guy communicating via the hud, overall vibe. Hard to explain if you haven't played Bioshock
It's not that it doesn't "sit right with me" I'm just noting the obvious inspiration. The Bioshock vibe is far and away more prevalent than Borderlands.I played all of them multiple times. I just don't see it.
I guess it just doesn't sit right with everybody. Few things do.![]()
Everybody takes inspiration from somewhere I guess. It's not that it doesn't "sit right with me" I'm just noting the obvious inspiration. The Bioshock vibe is far and away more prevalent than Borderlands.
A couple UI examples:

A game heavily derived from Bioshock that actually did a good job pulling it off was Prey.
What are you talking about? I never said it was going to fail because it's imitating Bioshock. I think it unlikely to fail at all.Everybody takes inspiration from somewhere I guess.
Do these images also invoke Bioshock vibes in you?
Not trying to argue. Just saying that taking inspiration from predecessors is very common and speaks nothing of quality.
If the Outer Worlds will be a fail, it won't be because they resemble Bioshock to some people.![]()
Well, from what you were saying, I gathered that the fact that it resembles a Bioshock to you is somehow a bad thing. What are you talking about? I never said it was going to fail because it's imitating Bioshock. I think it unlikely to fail at all.

Also in the Microsoft store...so not just an Epic exclusive
Metro Exodus is there too...
I think I misled you about Exodus and Outer Worlds being in the Microsoft store, they come with gamepass ultimate and aren't available in the gamestore as far as I know.... I pre-ordered Exodus on Steam before Epic slapped an exclusivity on it though....Metro was/is another I was going to get as I loved the orignals, id all but forgoton about it untill I saw your post.
Still romping through my (258 modded) FO4.
Don't know about Metro, but Outer Worlds are normally available to buy on MS store for 50 quid without gamepass.I think I misled you about Exodus and Outer Worlds being in the Microsoft store, they come with gamepass ultimate and aren't available in the gamestore as far as I know
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees that similarity. The sound effects, too, for that matter. I don't mind imitation, as they say it's the most sincere form of flattery, it's just that if you're going to do that your gameplay chops had best be there, too, or it's going to feel like a real let down. Bioshock's enormously satisfying gameplay loop is a tough act to follow.Nothing wrong with being inspired but to me the UI in OW is uncomfortably too similar to BiShock one. Its a nitpick but still, why making it so obviously similar?
Actually you don't need ultimate, if you're on PC only. It's in the PC Gamepass, and also separately on the store. If you install the Xbox "steam" you can buy them both. They just might not show up on the Win10 store, but they are there, just through the gaming app.I think I misled you about Exodus and Outer Worlds being in the Microsoft store, they come with gamepass ultimate and aren't available in the gamestore as far as I know.... Exodus is a free game on Gamepass Ultimate so a few of my friends who are like minded about loading up an Epic launcher to get hold of Exodus got the game as part of their gamepass subscriptions.
Microsoft. They bought Obsidian last year.Still dont see much hype about it. Who's the publisher?
